Twilight- If Bella had a Friend
"Hi Chief Swan. I'm a friend of Bella's, from school." I gave a small wave, and a bright smile, as the Chief opened the door. He looked me up and down, his eyes tired, and his face sullen.
"You're one of West's kids, aren't you?" He asked curiously. I nodded, and held my hand out.
"Holly West. My family moved here about a week after Bella." I explained as he shook my hand. He looked tired and forlorn, and I worried for both my friend, and her father.
"Well ah, Bella's not really up to having visitors at the moment." He explained sorrowfully, looking up the empty stairs behind him. I followed his gaze, the house seeming dark, and empty.
"That's okay, I've come anyway." I gave another reassuring smile, and the Chief's eyes seemed to soften, as they filled with worry and pain. He stepped aside, allowing me to enter the house, closing the door behind us.
"She's up in her room, but she's not doing well." He explained as he shuffled into the kitchen. I could see the worry had bent him, aging him like time never could. I unwrapped the light scarf from my neck, and placed it on the counter top, as Mr Swan moved to poor himself a cup of coffee.
"I know, that's why I've come." I started as I glanced back at the stairs. "When I was in a dark place, I didn't know what I wanted, what I needed, but my sister, Kate," I paused to give a soft thoughtful smile at the memory of all the good my older sister had done for me over the years. "She gave me a hard kick up the arse. 'Scuse my language. With love. She pulled me from it and forced me to keep moving. I cursed her name for it at the time, but now I'll spend the rest of my life thanking her." I finished as I turned my smile on the Chief. Charlie's face split into a grateful smile and he nodded in the direction of the stairway.
"Well, give her a good kick from me, too, won't 'cha" I nodded, before taking the stairs up to the second story. It was obvious which room was Bella's. The door was open, but the blinds were drawn, all light banned from entering, a large lump, laying still under a purple comforter.
"Hey Bella." I called out softly. I wanted to try the soft approach first, get a gage for where she was at, before I dove right into being a persistent ass. She didn't move, didn't even make a sound, so I walked to her bedside, looking over the top of the blankets, to see which way she was facing. I moved around the other side of the bed and crouched down, gently pulling the blankets away from her face.
"Bella." I called again, even softer this time. Her eyes cracked open, puffing and red. They blurrly scanned my face before closing again. I sighed.
"Bella, I know you're hurting, but this isn't good for you. You're gonna get up, get dressed, and spend the day with me." My tone was firmer, but I kept my voice low, so as not to shatter the atmosphere completely. Yet. Bella rolled over, and pulled the covers up over her head, going still once more.
"Well, don't say I didn't try to play nice." I warned as I stood, resting my hands on my hips. She didn't move, and I frowned, a deep stab of pain striking me. I could remember what it felt like to be so low, and seeing someone else go through that, really hurt. I took a deep breath, and swollowed the lump in my throat.
I wrenched open her curtains, letting in the sunlight. I unlocked and pushed open her window, letting the fresh air permeate the musty smelling room. I swiftly moved back to her bed, and got a good firm grip on the end of her blankets, making sure I hand both the sheet and the comforter, before yanking it off, and throwing it on the ground behind me.
"Bella, get up." I stated firmly, leaving no room for discussion or debate. The brunette didn't even react, and my heart clenched. It was worse then I thought. I shoved down my feelings and hardened my resolve.
"I have given you two months. Two months to grieve the loss of your vampire boyfriend, who quite frankly, is a selfish coward, who left you, taking your choices and opinion away from you." I ranted and Bella sat up, pin straight, a glare turned on me at my word's.
"Don't talk about him that way." She grit out. At least she was reacting now.
"He said he didn't love you, and I know that must hurt, deeply," I started, softening as I looked at her appearance, disheveled and guant. Her eyes filled with tears.
"But it's been two months, and you dated for less then that, so you need to get up, get dressed, put on a brave face, and fake it till you make it." At my word's Bella dropped back onto her bed, and curled up once more.
"Alright, looks like we're doing this the hard way." I stormed over to her bed side and wrapped an arm around her middle, dragging her to the edge of the bed.
"Leave me alone." She hissed out, her tone turning from sorrow to anger.
"Not happening. I'm gonna be here, every morning, of every day, until you can get up and do this on your own, because, that is, what friends, are for." I grunted slightly between my last few words, as I pulled her into a sitting position, hanging her legs over the edge of the bed.
"You've done enough crying and moping, and feeling sorry for yourself, to last a life time. He's not worth it." Her eyes flashed with anger once more, and I steeled my resolve again.
"Leave me alone." She grit out. We stared each other down, but I wasn't going to give up. Finally her eyes rolled down to her hands, resting in her lap, and she heaved a heavy sigh, all the anger leaving her body as sadness once again took its place.
"No." Her eyes rolled back up to meet my determined look, and they were hollow, and empty.
"Now get up, shower, and get dressed, we're going for a run. I'm going downstairs to make us some shakes, with, whatever the hell is in your kitchen, and you better be down in ten minutes. Cause if you're not, I'm coming back up here, and I will dress you myself, and that's not gonna be pleasant for anyone." I marched from her room, not bothering to close the door, as she'd need the bathroom anyway. I jogged down the stairs, and into the kitchen. Chief Swan was leaning against the kitchen island, wide eyed, and staring at me. I gave a shy smile, knowing he probably heard all that and was either confused, or offended on his daughters behalf. There were footsteps from upstairs, and then a door closed, moments later the sound of the shower echoed lightly through the houses walls. Charlie's eyes moved from the staircase, to me, to the stairs and back again.
"You got her up?" He said in breathless disbelief, his eyes filling with unshed tears. My cheeks tinted, but I gave a confirming nod.
"Everyday at seven AM, until she can do it on her own." I announced proudly, hoping my anxiety over shoving my way into their lives didn't show. Charlie's huffed a laugh through his nose, his face splitting into a smile.
"Thank you. You're a good kid." He said as he placed a hand on my shoulder. I beamed with pride, before moving around him, and into the kitchen.
"Do you mind if I make Bella and I something?" I asked as I glanced around the kitchen, wondering where everything I'd need was. Charlie sniffled, and tried to subtly wipe his eyes with a chuckle.
"Of course not. Go wild kid." He said as he shook his head, a smile brightening his features, and making him look more his age. I bustled around the kitchen, having to open and close things a few times, before I had two chocolate Egg Flip's, waiting on the counter, as Bella slumped down the stairs, dressed similar to myself. Tights, a long sleeve, jacket, and a pair of joggers. Her hair was hanging loose, limp and wet around her face as she stopped at the bottom of the stairs, shrinking in on herself, like this wasn't her own home.
"Come sit, drink. And I'll get your hair brush." Bella didn't argue, and moved to sit at the dining room table, taking a sip from the shake I placed before her. I ducked upstairs, found her hairbrush and some hair ties, before jogging back down.
As Bella drank what looked like, as little as possible, from her cup, I gulped mine down between gently brushing her hair out, and braiding it into two braids, tying them off. I did my best to ignore the Chief watching us, and finished my drink before rinsing it out in the sink.
"Alright, you ready?" I didn't leave room for an answer, knowing she had no plans of finishing her drink. "Let's go." Charlie's brows shot to his hairline when he realised I'd been serious about taking her for a run, and his eyes widened almost comically, when she actually got up and slugged her way behind me, and out the door.
"We'll be back later Chief!" I called back to Mr Swan, as he moved to the open doorway to watch us go.
"Please, call me Charlie." He said in disbelief, as he blinked owlishly. I grabbed Bella's hand in mine, and caught her eyes.
"I know you don't want this, but you need it. You're my friend and I'm doing this because I love you." I explained before pulling on her hand, and dragging her behind me as we slowly jogged away from the Swan residency.
