Twilight-His Timing was Everything//Jacob Black

Trigger warning: Physical Abuse, Gaslighting, and thoughts of suicide. I in no way mean to romanticise any of these things, and encourage you to seek professional help if you are dealing with any of them. Read at your own risk, you've been warned. This takes place when Jacob runs away to Canada after being invited to Bella's wedding.

Felicity's P.O.V
I stopped running when my lack of vision began to become an issue. My eyes were bleary with tears, and my chest constricted with each sob. I stumbled towards an especially large tree, and slumped against its trunk, nursing my bruising right arm, with my left.

I curled in on myself, as I let all my pain out. I tried to calm my crying long enough to inspect my wrist and hand.

It was practically crushed, and nearly black. Nasty purples and blues spread from the tips of my fingers, past my wrist. He'd really done a number on it. How was I supposed to show up at school on Monday and do my exams? It was trials week. I wouldn't be able to write. I wouldn't be able to paint.

That's what had gotten me in this mess in the first place.

I froze at a sudden sound in the surrounding woods. Good job Felicity. Run out into the woods to get eaten by a bear. I flinched as I gripped my injured wrist too tightly. A crunch of leaves, and snap of a twig, had my head jerking up. I cautiously glanced around the surrounding trees. If it's black scare it back, if it's brown, lay down. Wait, is it the other way round?

My heart stopped in my chest, and my breathing hitched, as I met the eyes of a huge wolf. My body shook on its own accord, and I stared with large, wide eyes at the giant creature before me. I had though it was a bear for a moment, with its size. Somehow this was much worse.

The giant wolf took a step towards me, and I finally snapped out of my fear stricken gaze. I jerked back against the tree, and panicked when I realised I had nowhere to go. I pivoted, and slid across the tree trunk, sliding around it. But as I moved to stand and run, I made the fatal mistake of leaning on my injured arm.

"Ahh!!" A scream tore from my throat as I lost my balance, and face-planted the dirt, lucky I'd only been crouching, and hadn't had further to fall. Distracted I totally forgot about the giant wolf as I snatched my arm to my chest, hissing in pain as tears leaked down my cheeks again.

I jerked as something large and soft pushed against my side. I freaked and rolled over slightly, to find the giant, russet wolf right beside me. I shuddered in terror, as the wolf nudged my side again, knocking me onto my back this time. I tried to keep as still as I could, pinching my eyes closed, waiting for my intending doom.

It didn't come.

Something soft and warm, brushed against my arms, and I peeled my eyes open. I glanced down at my chest to see the large wolf sniffing my injured arm. I stared at the creature in sudden fascination. I slowly moved my left arm out of the way, and lifted my right so the wolf could see it.

The russet brown beast tilted its head like a confused puppy, before reaching its forward, and licking my arm. It was surprisingly gentle in the action, licking it once, then twice, before pulling away, and plopping down beside me.

I blinked rapidly as I stared at the giant puppy. It moved its head to face me, and met my eyes again. I stared into its dark, warm, brown eyes. It appeared so intelligent and calm. Slowly and cautiously, I sat up, using my good arm for support. I kept eye contact with the wolf, to ensure it didn't change its mind.

"Hi." I whispered out, unsure of the whole situation. The wolf moved its head towards me and I flinched, screwing my eyes shut, only to open them again, when I felt him sniffing me. I peeked my eyes open, and watched its giant nose sniff, inches from my face. It pulled back, before huffing and slumping down, dropping its large head into my lap as it laid on its belly. With trepidation, I reached my good hand out, and gently ran it over the wolf's head. I nearly purred at how soft it was.

"Well you're not scary at all. You're just a big puppy." I said to him, as I ran my fingers through his fur, a small smile spreading across my cheeks.

"Felicity!" The call was distant, and far off, but it still found me. I jerked straight, reflexively grabbing my injured arm, and sheltering it against my chest. The wolf lifted its head and tilted it, almost as if it were confused.

"Felicity!" I took in a shuddering breath before pulling my legs out from under the large canine, wobbling to my feet. The animal rose to stand, and huffed at me.

"Sorry boy, gotta go." I spoke sadly, anxiety rolling in the pit of my stomach. The worst part was always having to go back. Knowing that I had nowhere else to go, no one to turn to, but the one who caused my suffering.

"I swear to God Felicity Jones!" I flinched, but turned towards the voice, picking my way back through the brush. Growling halted my movement. Perhaps it wasn't such a good idea to turn my back on a predator, even if it had been friendly before. A whinny followed the growl, as the wolf's head brushed against my shoulder, curling around my torso, as it nuzzled against me.

"Oh." I breathed shakily, raising my good hand to rub against his head. "Sorry. Goodbye buddy." I leant forward, and pressed a kiss to his head, patting him fondly. It was such a shame to leave behind such a majestic, and magical creature, for the hell, I called home. I stepped around him when my father called my name again. The longer I made him wait, the more trouble I'd be in.

The wolf once again stepped into my path.

"I'm sorry boy, I gotta go." I tried to explain, well aware he was a wild animal that had no idea what I was saying, and could very well snap at me any minute now. Though I suppose an untimely end wouldn't be all that bad. I tried to step to the other side, but he stepped with me. He bumped his head against my chest, nearly forcing me backwards.

"Woah, hey. Look, I know you wanna play, but I've gotta go. The longer I take, the worse things will be. Okay?" I stared into the wolf's intelligent eyes, before stepping around him, and heading back towards the house. I glanced back over my shoulder to see the wolf staring after me, and sighed, trudging on.

"I'm sorry, it won't happen again."

"Damn straight it won't." He ground out, as he gripped the side of my head by my hair and left ear, yanking me along behind him.

"Get in the car." He shoved me towards his Ute, and I jerked my head, cringing at the twinge in my neck. I pulled open the passengers door and climbed in, strapping on my seat belt with my left hand, struggling to push the buckle in, as my father turned on the engine, and swung around, taking off down the dirt road.

"She jammed it in the car door. Kids, they're accident prone." My father laughed light heartedly with the doctor, as they fixed up my cast.

"Well she's got some muscle on her. She did a real number on it." The doctor joked as he finished up, wheeling away on his chair, stopping at his desk to type something in. I sat quietly on the bench, staring at my broken, right, hand.

"Takes after her old man of course." My father joked back. His smile made my stomach turn. How everyone else couldn't see right through him, I'd never understand. Or maybe they did, and they just didn't do anything. Not their problem, or not their place, some bullshit like that I guess. Not that I'd ever have the guts to say anything, not when I was at his mercy.

"Welp!" The doctor clapped his hands together in finality. "She's all good to go. Come back and see me in six weeks, alright kiddo?" He asked. I finally dragged my head up to look at him. I could feel my father's stare, burning into the side of my head, so I forced a smile.

"Alright. Thanks doctor." I forced out in a light tone, sliding from the bed, and using my good hand to stablise myself.

"You know none of this would've happened if you'd just listened to me." His grip on my shoulder caused it to ache, his fingers digging into the muscle and bone there, as he directed us back to the car. I yanked open the door, and climbed up into the cab.

"Hey! You listening to me?" He slammed his car door shut, and stared me down. I nodded.

"Yes. Yes I'm listening, I'm sorry." I buckled my seatbelt, dropping my eyes, as he finally turned on the engine, pulling out of the hospital car park, and heading onto the highway.

"And you should be. I'm throwing that shit out when we get home. I told you not to paint in the house. How many times have I told you, not to paint inside?!" He slammed his fist against the wheel and I flinched back, sinking in my seat.

"Damn it, Fee!" He hit the wheel again. "When we get home, you get down on your knees, and you scrub that carpet till it's clean. You got it?" He turned his steel glare on me, and I nodded vigorously, silent tears spilling down my cheeks again. He focused back on the road, glancing between me and the pavement.

"You bring this on yourself Fee. You have no one to blame but you." We spent the rest of the forty minute drive in tension filled silence.
