(Jeremy's POV)
I lay on the lawn as I watch my mother play croquet, rather dull sport if you ask me. I stroked the grass blades in front of me, when suddenly a man with a fluffy tail and cat ears appeared before me.
"Squip! But.. you can't be here right now, my mother would be furious if she knew about you!" I whisper-yell and try to pull him to sit behind me.
"Nonsense, I'm only in here," he gracefully sat behind me then nudged my forehead on 'here'. "This game is boring, how about we go on an adventure," Squip dragged out his last word, then started to seemingly float toward another part of the garden. I followed him behind one of the shrubs, my mother not caring, where he pushed aside the branches revealing a hole in the ground.
"What the..?" I poked my head in, then felt myself get pushed down.
"See you later, Jeremy," the Squip giggled manically as I fell down the hole. I fell at an alarming speed, but somehow landed safely at the bottom in a dimly lit tunnel. My dress hem was all torn up, and my well done hair was now disheveled.
When I regained my senses, I saw the most beautiful boy I had ever seen. He was wearing all white, and had a red and gold watch on his wrist. His hair was bouncy and his face was stunning, while on top of his head two soft ears flopped. But he seemed panicked and rushed.
"E-excuse me sir?" I managed to ask, although I hit my head as I stood up.
"I'm late! I'm late.. for a very important date.." he mumbled and walked quickly away, after glancing at me through the corner of his eye.
"But, wait! Who are you?" I hurried after him, and got out of the tunnel in the process. But he was gone...
I wandered about in a complex forest, all sorts of run-down signs with no real meaning posted about. Then, I heard some faint laughing and singing.
"What's here tomorrow's gone todaaaay!! So sing this song without delaaaay!" a drowsy-sounding voice sang out, and I followed it. I heard more lyrics that had no real timing or meaning or tune, until I found the people who owned the voices.
"I-I beg your pardon, but who are you?" I looked up to the taller one and then down to the shorter one.
"I'm Jakey-D!" exclaimed the taller one while putting the smaller on his shoulders.
"And I'm Richy-G!" the small one, now on Jakey-D's shoulders, bursted out.
"Hello!" I matched their energy, quite astonished to see people who were so different than the cards. Thy were like.. a Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum!
Richy-G flipped off of Jakey-D's shoulders than squeaked out, "Why have you come to our part of the woods?"
"Well you see, I was sent on an adventure by my friend, Squip, and then I-"
"Squip?!" Richy-G jumped into Jakey-D's arms.
"Yes.. well I saw this stunning man, dressed in all white, and I followed him out of this tunnel into this forest and I-"
"You followed a man just because he was cute!? Are you a stalker?" Jakey-D asked and held onto Richy-G tightly.
"Would you quit interrupting me!" I scolded.
"Would you quit ignoring me!" the two said at the same time, pratically copying me.
I huffed and crossed my arms. "You're very impolite."
"You are very impolite," the two looked two each other and mocked me.
I brushed off my dress and walked away.
"The rabbit, his name's Michael!" Jakey-D called out as I walked away, though neither tried to stop me, for they continued to sing out random things about rabbits and the name Michael. I began to think mother wasn't the only one in the world who'd lost their wits..
I continued wandering about the forest when I noticed an ominous light in a knob of a tree. "Hello again, Jeremy," the voice of Squip chuckled, though I couldn't see him.
"Squip, I haven't the slightest on where to go. Could you possibly help me?" I complained as I plopped onto the ground.
"Well, there are a few people around here who might know the man whom you seek," the Squip appeared and brushed his tail on my face. "In that direction," he gestured to his left, "is the Mad Hatter, Chloe." He pointed the opposite way and said, "and in that direction is the March Hare, Brooke."
"I- I think I'll visit Brooke. After all, they don't call her a 'Mad Hatter'."
"Well, of course, we're all mad here," his voice bounced around me and the Squip disappeared again. "It's tea time, don't you think?"
As he said that, I heard a commotion from my right and started to follow the sounds of it.
I arrived at a large table, covered in treats and tea, but there were only two occupants.
"No room! No room!" the two people bursted.
"Why, there's plenty of room!" I said as I sat down at a seat across from them.
"Not if you haven't been invited, silly," one with blonde hair and long ears, as well as a twitchy nose, squeaked.
"Nonsense, join us for tea! We were just about to celebrate Brooke's unbirthday!" the other with a huge hat covering up brown, curly hair bubbled.
"Omigod Chlo, you remembered!" Brooke praised.
"Pardon me, but.. an unbirthday?"
"Yes of course!" they both chanted. "Have a very merry unbirthday! To uuuus!"
"Well- um- happy unbirthday. But I was wondering if you could tell me about a man named Michael?" I asked curiously.
"Michael! The white rabbit! Yes, he is rather untimely. Always rushing fro and to, never even stopping for tea!" Chloe complained as she poured herself another cup of tea, though she already had one filled and hadn't drank from it.
"I supposed he's around," Brooke shrugged as she poured herself half a cup of tea, but the cup was cut in half, it wasn't a cup filled half way.
"You two haven't given me any help!" I huffed and stood up.
"Well, you weren't invited! We're not supposed to talk to strangers!" Brooke retorted.
I rolled my eyes and walked off, quite done with their insanity. I wandered about some more, checking different roads for any sign of the man in white. I hadn't seen Squip in a while now, either, and even he couldn't been some help.
After a while I came across a place that seemed like a large-scale garden. I hear singing and the air got awfully smokey.
"A~ A~ E, I, O, U~" a girl sitting on top of a mushroom sang out, blowing rings of smoke from her hookah.
"Pardon me, but uh- have you seen a man in white?"
"What? Who are you~? Whom~ do you seek?" She blew rings of smoke into my face, causing me to have a coughing fit.
"I- I am Jeremy. I'm looking for a man named Michael. You wouldn't happen to know him?"
"Oh, I do. He's off in the woods, probably playing around with his stupid trumpet." I was going to ask another question but was cut off by her voice again. "I could never appreciate his music. Always hiding behind his sheet music, never really portraying his own vulnerabilities."
"Oh, I see. Well thank you for the help, you might be the only one around here who makes sense. I didn't catch your name?"
"Christine," she dragged out and puffed more smoke. "I hope you find him."
I nodded and walked off the way I came. I continued on for what seemed like hours, until I realized Christine's advice was no help at all. This whole place was the woods..
I found a spot beneath a tree and curled up under it. I cried into my hands; I was lost and all alone in this crazy land. No one was any help, and everyone was completely mad.
'We're all mad here~' Squip's words rang in my head. Mother was mad, everyone I'd met was mad, was I mad too? I was mad about finding this Michael..
I fell asleep while crying and slept as soundly as one could, all alone in the middle of who knows where. But then, I heard footsteps. I heard a panicked breathe. I looked up and caught the man in white looking at me, only a few steps away.
"H-hello?" I almost whispered and looked up to him. He stepped closer and I took in all his features. His dark complexion and soft, shiny hair. His deep brown eyes and crooked smile. "Michael.."
"Yes that's me kiddo. Why are you out here all by yourself? You're very far from the castle, you know," his words flowed so smoothly I could faint.
"You.." I mumbled as I pulled him into a long hug.
The world no longer felt mad.
