The Reaper and The Phantom Thief

Requested by: ZaphoX707

Request: MonoDeku AU where Izuku can sense dead bodies and sense when someone is about to die.

Thank you for requesting! I hope you enjoy this!

Also there might be a sequel to this oneshot depending on if you guys want that or not

[Side notes:

Hitoshi and Izuku in this AU are cousins.

Kogane Hebi is a modified version of 'Kogane no hebi' which roughly translates to 'Golden Serpent' or 'Golden Snake.' Both snakes and the color gold are symbols of healing.

Gaspeite is a rare nickel carbonate mineral that ranges in color from pale green to bright yellowish green, but is most commonly a shade of apple green.

Phantom Thief is Monoma's Hero name. (I headcanon Monoma is a huge Persona fan)

The number 4 is accosiated with death.]

----

Monoma hated class 1-A.

That was a fact everyone knew.

They were stuck up, acted like they were better than everyone else just because they were attacked by villains!

It pissed Neito off to no end, made his blood boil, and head spin.

And so when news spread like wildfire that 1-A was getting a new student, a transfer from Kogane Hebi High, a school specifically for medical based heroes, it shook the entirety of UA to its core.

Another person to complete with, another person to show he's better than, another rival that he would have to crush-

At least that's what Neito thought.

But things changed when he saw Shinsou Hitoshi, one of the least approachable and guarded students in UA, chatting casually to a small green haired boy.

Shinsou never talked to anyone casually, that was another thing everyone knew.

Curious Neito stepped closer to where the two were talking, but froze as the greenette looked his way.

An unsettlingly eerie green gaze, turned to face him.

The smaller boy smiled at Neito, waving at him in greeting, Shinsou glancing over to the two, following his companion's line of sight.

The lavender haired male gestured for Monoma to come closer, the blond doing as suggested, curious about the person Shinsou seemed so comfortable with.

"Monoma this is Midoriya Izuku, the exchange student to 1-A and my cousin. Izuku this is Monoma Neito, the guy I was telling you about." The purplette introduced, "I've gotta go, I have training I'm going to be late for." He continued as he walked off, leaving the two of them alone.

An awkward silence filled the air between them, it didn't help that Monoma was studying the pale boy in front of him.

Green eyes, almost glowing like uranium, dark circles underneath them against skin so pale it looked like bone, slightly darker splotches scattered across his nose and cheeks that Monoma identified as freckles.

Overall, the person in front of him looked like a walking corpse.

And yet he was also... cute? In a weird way.

"Ah.. You're Monoma? The way Hitoshi described you I thought you would be more.. Intimidating?" Izuku spoke softly, expelling the thought Monoma just had.

"I- Excuse you?" Monoma demanded, clearly having taken offense, why had he talked offense to that? Whatever, it didn't matter, Midoriya was the enemy! He was obviously just as stuck up as-

"I- I'm sorry!" Izuku panicked, "I didn't mean for that to offend you! I'm not the best at conversation and the way Hito was talking about you scared me a little-"

Neito watched as the boy flailed and rambled, panicking that he had offended him. That wasn't a reaction the blond was expecting.

"Uh.. Don't worry about it? You didn't actually offend me?" Monoma said, trying and seemingly failing to comfort the greenette.

Izuku stared at the blond for a moment,   gaspeite colored eyes scrutinizing his response, "...Alright.."

"Uh.." the both of them stood in an awkward silence once more, neither of them exactly knowing what to say.

Normaly Neito would insult the 1-A student, but considering the way he acted and the fact that Midoriya is related to one of his bestfriends, it just doesn't settle right with him.

Maybe he could get to know the greenette a little more? Maybe he can befriend the smaller boy and have him be an inside agent to 1-A?

"Soo.. You transferred from Kogane Hebi, right? That means you have some sort of healing quirk?" Neito asked still a bit unsure of the awkward air.

Izuku shifted his weight from one foot to the other, looking away, almost like he was ashamed, "Ah.. not.. not exactly." He muttered.

Neito blinked in surprise and confusion, not exactly? But he went to Kogane Hebi, a school specifically for medical heroes, everyone there has some kind of healing or medical based quirk, "Wha-"

"I'm so sorry, but I really have to go. I'm supposed to be meeting with Recovery Girl soon so I should really get going." Izuku spoke quickly, cutting off the blond he was talking to, "Bye!" He yelped, scurrying away from the blond, the complete opposite way of the infirmary.

Neito watched as the dark haired boy practically ran from him. His quirk was obviously a sore spot, the should've been a given considering his relation to Hitoshi.

No matter, Neito will find away to get closer to the greenette. Making people feel good about their quirks is one of the things he's fantastic at, if he does say so himself.

×-×

Midoriya has been avoiding Neito for over a week and its driving him crazy!

God damn it, everytime Neito gets close enough to attempt to start a conversation the ghastly boy with runs the other direction with some excuse shouted behind him, or he gets escorted away by some of his classmates!

Neito's frustrated thoughts were cut off by Vlad coming into the classroom, telling all of them to get into thier hero outfits and to meet him at ground gamma.

Sighing Monoma grabbed his suitcase and followed behind his classmates.

"Are you alright, dude? You've been off for awhile now, everyone's worried about you. " Tetsutetsu asked, falling into stride with the blond.

Neito hesitated, "..Yeah." he replied slowly.

Tetsutetsu quirked an eyebrow, "That was the worst lie I've ever heard." He pointed out  .

The ocean-eyed boy clicked his tongue in annoyance, "It wasn't a lie, I just... Its hard to explain."

"You have a crush on the new kid in 1-A don't you?"

"I- What?"Monoma demanded, "Where the hell did you- What?"

"Dude, you've been staring at him everytime you see him for the past two weeks, its honestly creepy. You're giving off stalker vibes, man." The metallic boy explained.

Groaning in annoyance, "I'm not a stalker, and I don't have a crush on him!" Monoma stomped off, angrily walking ahead to change before going to ground gamma.

"..And the last team Midoriya and Monoma." Aizawa read out.

Both boys froze as they heard thier names called, one in shock of finally getting a chance to talk to the greenette, and the other panicking because he can no longer avoid the blond.

Biting the bullet, Izuku walked over to where Monoma was standing, the small pit in his stomach growing more and more as he got closer.

"You've been avoiding me." Monoma pointed out.

Izuku flinched internally, was it really that noticeable? I mean they'd only met once for like six minutes!

"Oh.. h-have I..?" Izuku stuttered nervously.

Monoma raised a brow, "Are you alright? You know I'm not going to hurt you or anything, right?"

The greenette nodded, "Uh.. Yeah, I'm.. I'm fine.."

Monoma sighed, he had really fucked up thier first interaction and now the smaller boy doesn't seem to want anything to do with him, "..If you say so.." the blond replied, "Anyway, I need to know you're quirk."

'Fuck-,' Izuku thought, this is exactly what he's been avoiding for the past two weeks! None of his classmates knew what his power was, only the teachers and Hitoshi, everything else assumed he didn't have one or it wasn't outwardly obvious, "Uh.. W-whats yours?" Izuku asked, poorly evading the question.

"Copy." Monoma answered, it was obvious the boy didn't want to tell the blond what his power was, "I can copy the quirk of anyone I make skin contact with, but the duration lasts only about five minutes."

"Oh- That.. That's actually really cool!" Izuku gushed, eerie eyes seemingly glowing in excitement.

"... You think my quirk is.. cool?" Monoma asked slowly, this isn't a reaction he's received from letting someone know about his quirk, most of the time they say its boring, not a hero's quirk, some even go as far as to call him a villain, though it doesn't happen as often.

"Yes! It's extremely useful, like you could copy multiple rescue heroes's quirk and the disaster could be resolved more quickly, because those quirks that are optimized for the situation are multiplied!" The freckled boy ranted excitedly.

A small dusting of pink appeared across Monoma's face, okay, maybe Tetsutetsu was right and Neito did have a small, tiny, little crush on the other boy..

"Uh- Anyway, I kinda need to know your quirk so we can make a plan for when it's our turn."

Izuku froze, just like the first time this topic was brought up, "R- right.. uh.." He hesitated.

"Midoriya, if you think I'm going to judge you harshly based on your quirk, then you're wrong." Monoma interjected, attempting to calm the other, "I only care about a person's character. Their actions and personality are what matter, not the power they do or don't have."

"... My quirk is called Fourth Sense." Izuku sighed, hugging himself nervously, "I can sense when someone is about to die, and can locate bodies of people who've already died.."

"I..." Monoma trailed off, "That wasn't what I was expecting-"

"Yeah, I know." Izuku spat bitterly, cutting off the blond, "No one just... expects someone to say that thier quirk makes them a metal detector for dead people.."

Monoma opened his mouth, hesiting for a moment, "It's not a bad thing-"

"Reaper, Phantom Thief! You're up!" Vlad directed, leaving Monoma's sentence left unfinished, Izuku swift taking off towards thier designated training area.

----

"Shit-!" Izuku screeched, veering away from where he and the blond were currently walking. They were in the middle of trying to find the 'villain' team, when his quirk started going haywire.

The incessant ringing, the sense of dread, the pull-

It all meant someone was about to die, one of his classmates or possibly Monoma's was in danger.

"We need to find where they are now! Forget the training exercise, some is about to fucking die!" Izuku explained before taking off towards where he felt the pull the strongest.

Monoma had no time to react before Izuku had already taken off down one of the corridors, 'Damn, he's fast!' He thought as he attempted to trail the ghastly greenette.

Unfortunately for him he couldn't keep up. After five minutes of trying to find where his partner had gone, Monoma was about to return to the beginning of the test site, but the overhead speakers turning on caught his attention.

"Monoma, Midoriya and the others are six corridors to your right! Help him get the other two stable Recovery Girl will be there to help very soon!"

'Six corridors to the right,' Monoma thought, frantically running in the direction he was told. If what Midoriya said is true, then his classmates were dying, 'Shit, I hope I can make it!'

L

uckily Monoma did make it to where his classmates and partner were. Apperently part of  the ceiling had collapsed due to it not being properly repaired when it was damaged a few weeks ago.

The ceiling fell onto Komori and Kuroiro, thanks to Izuku sensing thier incoming demise they were bought more time until Recovery Girl could show up and heal them, not fully but enough for them to not run the risk of dying on the way to the hospital.

Both classes had been dismissed back to thier dorms so they could calm down from the catastrophe that just occurred.

But Monoma had other plans. That lead to where he and the small freckled boy, that had quickly become the object of his fascination, to where they are now.

"..You said you wanted to talk to me, not box in against a wall.." Izuku muttered. He was tense, the blond looming over him bringing bitter memories of another blond to the forefront of his mind, "Listen.. I get that this is probably about my freaky quirk and how its gross that I can locate the dead and dying-"

"Your quirk is amazing and so are you." Monoma interrupted, he couldn't stand there and listen to Izuku talk shit about his own power like that. Not when it saved his classmate's lives and is bound to save many others in the future.

Hell, he'll probably end up helping to solve cold cases involving deceased victims as well.

"Wha- What?" Izuku blinked owlishly up at the blond.

"Your quirk is amazing. You are amazing! You saved my classmates, and when you become a hero I know for a fact that you'll save so many more people." Monoma rambled, "Whoever told you you're quirk was gross or villainous or creepy is an idiot who obviously can't see your potential. Anyone with half a brain can see that you already are a hero."

Izuku was frozen he didn't know how to react, sure this is similar to how he talked to others when they were unconfident in thier abilities, but he'd never been on the receiving end before. It was overwhelming to say the least.

"But that's not all I wanted to talk to you about." Neito admitted, "I know we haven't known eachother very long and we've only met two times, but I really really like you."

"Like..me? As in like me, like me?" Izuku internally cringed at his wording, what is this a cheesey romance movie?

"Yeah, can I take you out-"

"No."

Monoma blinked, stunned at the swift, straight forward rejection, mouth gaping as he tried to process.

"Its.. We don't know eachother, we aren't even friends,  so I'd like to get to know yoi more platonically before jumping into dating." Izuku explained, "Plus if you do start dating me you'll have to deal with Hitoshi constantly breathing down your neck."

Monoma nodded in understanding, "Then maybe we can hang out sometime? As friends?"

"Yeah, as friends, for now anyway.. I will admit you are pretty cute.." Izuku added, before slipping away from the blond and back toward his room, heart beating out of hish chest for admitting that.

Neito watched as Izuku scurried away. He might not've immediately gotten a date with the death quirked boy, but it was worth it.

Good things come to those who wait, after all.
