Mutual Pining {Emmalyn x Timothy}
Emmalyn's POV
I walked through the halls of my school. I was currently walking alone. I heard a voice. "Hey, Emma!" Enter Timothy, a kid I'd known since kindergarten, my best friend, a boy who, I'd denied it to myself for long enough, I had a massive crush on. My feelings for him had just sprung up one day and had stubbornly refused to leave. I turned to face him, smiling broadly. I always attempted to keep my crush on him in check, but that didn't mean it didn't slip through sometimes.
"Heyo Timo!" I said, doing finger guns. He blinked.
"Emma, please don't do that ever again." I blinked and felt myself blush.
"U-um, Sorry." I said. I looked at the ground. I felt extremely embarrassed.
"Emmi, it's fine." Timothy then blushed. "I-I mean, Emma! Hahaha." I'd blushed at the nickname. A silence fell between us. Timothy was looking away, me? I was looking at the ground. "How are your dads?" He asked me, eventually breaking the silence. Yes, plural. Got a problem? Didn't think so.
"They're fine," I replied. "Though, Father, my dad with the black hair, has been home from work late recently." Timothy glanced at me.
"Maybe he has a lot of things to do?"
"Probably." I gazed at the clock and my eyes widened. "We should probably get to class."
Unfortunately for me, we had seats next to each other. We were friends so that's understandable but, our peers were ruthless. Much to my annoyance, they'd ship anything they laid their eyes on. Like, sure, if you can clearly see something between them or if it's a crack ship, by all means, go ahead. It's just, I can clearly tell they ship me with my best friend. But there was nothing going on between us, not that there could be (my Dad has rules), since I was the only party who had a crush here. When I mean something between them, I mean both parties must seem to like each other. So, unless Timothy reciprocated, I did not see what they saw at all. I highly doubted that Timothy could see me as anything more than a friend. The situation between Tim and I was already awkward enough, with one party liking the other. I did not need our peers shipping us behind my back. And also, I'm not gonna attempt ruining my friendship with my closest friend. Those don't heal well. I realized I'd been staring at Timothy, causing me to blink and turn red. Then...
Our gazes met.
It only lasted a second before I whipped around going a darker red. It was almost as if Timothy had been staring at me as well. A few giggles sounded from behind me. I was damn obvious. Timothy probably knew. Though, his demeanor was as if he didn't know. That thought let me breathe. I didn't want to make it even more awkward that if he knew and didn't reciprocate. One thing about my crush, I hadn't told any of my fathers. Dad would probably freak out and I didn't know what Father would do. I'd asked Dad about their love story before. It sounded really adorable. That they met as kids and how Dad had crushed on Father without him having even the slightest clue and how Father had no clue that he was actually bisexual and unawarely crushed on an actor and Dad. "Emma, are you okay?" Timothy snapped me from my head.
"O-oh! Mm h-hmm," I replied. "I got lost in my thoughts there." Also, I'm not stupid, I know I'm adopted. I'm not upset at this fact, je'aime mes pères. Oh sorry, went into French there.
"Lost in thoughts?"
"Uh Huh."
"Hm, okay then." His gaze didn't leave me though. He was smiling softly. I resisted the urge to kiss him that had suddenly surfaced. His smile gave me butterflies. Realizing I was staring again, I turned away and tried to focus on the lesson. There was something written on board.
"Hey Emmathy!" A voice called behind me. I turned around, blushing at a ship name being used. My eyes narrowed at the sight of the ginger haired girl and her friends. I remembered a scene at the start of school:
Sullivan's, that's Father's name, eyes had narrowed and he was scowling. Alder, Dad's name, looked near furious. "Is that the spawn?" Father growled looking at the girl.
"Looks like it," Dad's gaze was on the man next to the girl. There was a pungent odor coming off him. The odor of sewers. The man sneered back at them.
"Morning Nonsense and Dumber," the man seemed to jeer. My dads didn't answer and helped me into the school.
Don't ask me why I remembered that. "Hey!" Timothy called back. "Why don't you shut up, huh?" I saw that Timothy was also blushing. I hadn't seen him blush all that much. So, you had me and Tim both blushing at a ship name being used. What message do you think that sends? I felt like burying my face in my hands. I probably wouldn't have cared if I didn't like Tim. Timothy was probably merely embarrassed and that was why he was blushing. After all, we were still just friends, no matter what my heart wanted. I wondered if this is what Dad felt in the two years he pined for Father. I thought back to Dad's rule and my heart sank. I couldn't act on my feelings until I was 23 and would I still even be crushing on Tim by that point? I hardly noticed that class had ended. Timothy and I walked out together, earning a few gazes from our peers. I noticed a poster on the wall and walked over to it, Timothy following suit.
"I didn't know we're doing that! Dad's gonna be ecstatic," I said looking at the poster. "It'll be a bit tricky though, and we'd have to censor it."
"Hm... I might audition," Timothy said. I looked at him.
"I'm sure you'd be great!" I said, causing him to blush slightly.
"Oh.... uh.. t-thanks." He then started to walk off. "See ya later Emmalyn!" He called after him. I smiled. I was glad I was able to not make him suspicious of my true feelings.
After all, there was no way he was pining for me too.
(I literally couldn't think of a title)
