Chapter 14

Suchitra's pov:

After the incident in the celebration I felt really sad. I did not like the way Arjun was insulted and what I hated more was that I could not stop it from happening due to Kanha's instructions. I understand that changing things which have already happened is bad but I can't just stand and watch everyone suffer knowing I could have saved them but I didn't.

I decided to go back to castle knowing very well that the pandavas except Arjun are really tensed as well. I walked towards Yudhishthir's room and when the dwarpaal saw me, he bowed and was about to go inside to inform the brothers about my presence but I stopped him "I have the permission to go inside, you stay here and let me pass" I said and he nodded letting me in. "What do we reason about Nakul?" I heard Yudhishthir say when I entered the room. They all were standing with there back towards the door and hence did not see me. "You shall reason about how the position of Yuvraj is rightfully yours Rajkumar Yudhishthir" I spoke up. All of them turned around startled by sudden interruption but quickly relaxed when they saw that it was me.

"Suchitra! Did you here what we were talking about?" Yudhishthir questioned "No Rajkumar but I had an idea. You should know that it is YOU who is supposed to be the yuvraj and you shall let everyone know it tomorrow" I said with a authoritative voice, walking towards where Nakul was standing and stood beside him "Suchitra is right jyeshth, you should listen to her" Nakul said. Yudhishthir looked at him and then at me. He then walked towards us "No. just like Lord Indra decides how much rain shall be received by a particular land and the humans have to abide by it, the king shall decide who gets the position and who does not" he explained both of us with gentle and calm voice, but I was not ready to back out. As I opened my mouth to speak, Sahadev interrupted "But jyeshth, if for some reason someone gets to rule a land for sometime it doesn't mean that he can own the land forever"

"Indra is immortal, not a human. A ruler can only rule a land for a fixed time period, that's why this tradition goes on, so that the one who sits on the throne for some time shall be the rightful owner of the land" Yudhishthir said to him. "But if the land is won by might then the land will belong to someone else wouldn't it jyeshth? We shall attain this land with our might jyeshth, if we have to battle then we shall" said Bheem. I could see Yudhishthir got a little angry at his words but I agree with Bheem and even if they don't want to fight now, they will do it in the future. "Whom will you fight Bheem?! Pitamah, Tatshree, your cousins?! No Bheem, you can't even think about war!" Yadhuvanshi exclaimed while Bheem just looked at him. "Why is the thought of war so bad Yudhishthir? Bheem isn't wrong and you know it. One shall always fight for what rightfully belongs to them, even if it means fighting their own family" I spoke up and then realised I shouldn't have, all the brothers looked at me as if they just saw a ghost. Yudhishthir looked even more angry now, he walked towards me, joined his hands and said "Rajkumari, if you think like this then I am sorry but you are wrong, I can't let my brothers fight our family and neither should anyone else fight their family for such a small thing. And you have no right to tell us what to do! You aren't a part of our family so please keep your advice to yourself, and also please let the dwarpal inform me if you want to enter this room since it is inappropriate for a lady to enter a man's room without his permission"

I felt humiliated and hurt, he said all this so coldly that it sent shivers down my spine. I understood what he meant completely and he was right, who was I to say anything related to their family. I looked down and joined my hands "I am sorry for intruding Rajkumar, I thought after whatever happened outside you people might be stressed and so I decided to visit you but now I understand that my presence isn't welcome so I shall take my leave. Pranipaat" I said and walked out.

Third person's pov:

When Suchitra left, Yudhishthir realised his words hurt her. He looked down when he saw his brothers looking at him. "I-I didn't mean to hurt her, it's just when she said that fighting one's family is not wrong I lost control over my tongue" He said. His brothers looked at him with a sad expression on their faces, they had never seen their jyeshth looking so sad almost resembling a kicked puppy "Jyeshth don't worry, you know how Suchitra is. She will forgive you by tomorrow" Bheem said trying to console his eldest brother "Bhrata Bheem is right jyeshth and if you want, either Sahadev or I can go and talk to her. She will definitely calm down after that" Nakul said and Sahadev nodded at his words "Yes jyeshth, grant us permission to go and talk to her" Yudhishthir looked at them and was about to speak when Arjun entered the room.

"Pranipaat jyeshth, Pranipaat Bhrata Bheem. What is happening here? Why are you looking so sad jyeshth? What were you talking about?" Arjun greeted his elder brothers and bombarded them with questions. "Bhrata Arjun, Suchitra is angry because of something that jyeshth said to her" Nakul told him and  after hearing this his brows furrowed. He looked at everyone and said in a little cold and little tense voice "Tell me everything that happened" and then Sahadev explained everything to him. After hearing the whole story he sighed "Jyeshth I understand that what she said was a little wrong but it doesn't mean that you will straight away say that she isn't the part of our family. You as well as I know that everyone here loves her, even the kauravas and mamashree though they don't show it, she IS a part our family jyeshth" Yudhishthir looked at him and sighed sadly "I know Arjun and I am very sad that I said all that to her." After a short pause "It was me who made this mistake hence, it shall be me who rectifies it. I shall go and talk to her right now and ask for forgiveness" he said and quickly made his way out to search for Suchitra, without even hearing his brothers' response.

Meanwhile Suchitra was unaware that Yudhishthir was looking for her. She was outside in the garden of the palace walking around mindlessly. She didn't understand why was she so badly affected with what the eldest pandava said, she knew he was right it wasn't her place to say anything but still it hurt. She always considered him to be the calmest one amongst the brothers and that's the reason to why she was scared seeing him lose his temper. He didn't even raise his voice too much but the way he spoke reminded her of the times when she used to disappoint her father and he would scold her, she would always cry when he did and that's what she felt when Yudhishthir scolded her. As if she disappointed him.

She kept walking until she reached a large tree. A swing was suspended from one of its large branches. She smiled instantly when she saw it, when she came to Hastinapur in her childhood, Yudhishthir and Bheem fixed it on the tree for her. They always used to decorate it with different types of flowers because she told them to and would sway her for as long as she wanted.

She went towards it and sat down, it was still decorated with beautiful flowers. She felt really calm sitting on the swing under the twinkling stars, the sky was clear so she could see the stars clearly. It was one of her favourite things about Dwaparyug since in Kaliyug the sky was never so clear for her to see the beauty of these silvery discs. The moonlight was falling on her face making her look ethereal as she sat there quietly with a small smile and closed eyes feeling the cold wind caress her skin. Suddenly someone pushed the swing making it move. This startled her and she turned to look who it was and relaxed a bit when she saw it was Yudhishthir. She was about to get when he placed a hand on her shoulder, stopping her.

Yudhishthir walked infront of her and bent down on his knees as he looked at her guilt and sadness "Please forgive me Rajkumari, I was a fool to say such things to you, a person adored by each and every one in this family including me. I was mad when you took Bheem's side when he spoke of fighting the same family which you too are a part of and lost control over my tongue. I am really sorry but forgive as I promise to never do such thing again" He finished his rambling and looked down in shame. Suchitra smiled a little and took his face in her hands to make him look at her. They looked into each other's eyes and kept looking, to them it felt like the other was trying to drown them in a feeling none of the two understood. Suddenly Suchitra broke out from trance and said "I forgive you Rajkumar. You apologising for something which wasn't even wrong shows how great you are and please don't sit on the ground. Come sit here" She shifted a little to make some space for him to sit on the swing. He hesitated a little but Suchitra pulled him down to sit. "Me and my brothers asked maata to make sure that this swing was decorated with fresh flowers everyday before we went to gurukul" He told her in a soft voice, his words made her smile. She decided to be courageous and kept her head in his shoulder due to which stiffened for some time but then relaxed.

They sat there swinging for a long time without talking just basking in each other's presence.
