Ancient
The anchors pulled out and the ship stopped. I expected a pie fight but was surprised by the results.
"Set the ship for the Islanders!" Someone shouted.
I heard some of the crew and the passengers gasp. They knew something we didn't.
I heard Pepper squeal in excitement. Sam didn't seem to mind but I was feeling... Fishy?... Ehehe.
"Let's go newbies. That island is waiting for you scallawags." Robert said.
I nodded. I still didn't feel right.
They opened a large rowboat from a hatch and let us get in.
"This will be great!!!" Pepper squealed. She excitedly got in.
"I hope." I said to myself.
Sam held on to my hand again and gave a small smile. He could probably tell I was feeling uneasy. I didnt want much attention so I gestured for him to let go with my fingers.
He nodded and got in the boat. I got in too and Robert as well.
They lowered the boat. The creaking it made left a knot in my stomach. Im overreacting aren't I?... Probably...
You're dead. You should be. Just like the two kids who went to the island in the first place.
I can't believe this stupid voice in my head, then again, it's always terrible to me.
I remembered something and pulled out a picture out of my bag.
"Robert?... We're these those kids that went here years ago?" I asked showing him the pic.
"Yes... How'd you know?..." He said staring at it.
"Lucky guess." I said shrugging.
Pepper elbowed me in the ribs and gave me a worried look. I know what this means. If Flaubert's been here, things will get worse.
Much worse. I hope my fate wouldn't be as bad as Flaubert's and The Girl's. Something happened to Flaubert and the other one to the girl.
Like a curse. She was trapped in the amulet, and Flaubert?... I don't know at all.
And you never will. I don't know why you try so hard to remember someone that can just ruin your life!!! He dumped you!!! And if you wanna go back on all that heartache because of the mirror... Ugh! Just kill him now and let's leave!!!
I heard a splash and the boat tipped into the sea. It meant we were supposed to row.
"Let's start rowing now that we're all here and in the salty seas of seven eh kids?" Robert said picking up a paddle.
Pepper nodded anyway still having a smile. Its hard to bring her down. She grabbed a paddle and started rowing.
Sam levotated his and stroked it through the ocean. I did the same. Pepper gave us bad looks. She wants us to be less lazy.
Sorry girl, it's mah nature. (Oh yes I did. :3)
It felt like hours since we've been rowing and Robert was talking about all the adventures him and the crew had across the high seas of Hearth. Some were actually amazingly great.
Like this one time, where a sharktopus grabbed a crew mate by tail and Robert had to poke it's eye out with a broom. Thats how he lost his tooth. It chipped when that Sharktopus slammed him against a rock.
He got that scar on his snout from when the ship was in a tight squeeze when a storm struck one of their cruises and a mast and several sailors plunged into the sea.
Suddenly, we saw a shrine appear in the mist. It was a half-fish, half-human hybrid with two pairs of four hands. Two were raised up and had these gems in the palms and the other two were like a staircase. Leading too the open mouth. Probably a cave.
"This is it. Here. This'll be where we enter... At the old, Sea Shrine."
I stared at it in awe. It barely looked broken even. Unless you count all the ivy growing on it. But the gems stayed untouched.
When we got close to a stone dock in front of it. Pepper nudged me again and squealed. Nothing could hold her down.
Sam was in the boat lying down.
"Get up Sam." I said.
"No. Not until you ask nicely." He said. But he was smiling all the same.
"No. We'll just leave you here to starve, or get eaten, or-"
Sam pushed me with an Aurora and laughed. But he was secretly regretting it. I could tell for some reason. Something told me he was regretting it. Like, he would never push me around or anything.
I just didn't know what, and I didn't care.
I stood up and dusted myself off and grunted. Sam already came out of the boat.
"Heh, sorry Heat-" He said lightenening up.
"Don't. Call. Me. Heat." I growled.
"Geez. We ain't in no jungle." He said.
"Whatev." I said flipping my hair and crossing my arms.
"It's good to know you learned about the hair flip at least." Pepper sighed.
"Eh, I just wanted to show you. Come on, let's see what we can find here." I said walking towards the staircase.
I heard Pepper muttering to herself and Sam was grunting and muttering as well. Gone nuts eh? You people probably squirreled it out.
I snickered and continued up the long tiring staircase of pain.
Every step was a bore but it took is closed to our destination. The breeze was stronger near the top of the statue.
I felt like picking a fight with Sam but I couldn't get myself to do it. I had the urge though.
I bumped into a stone wall. I accidentally pushed myself into Pepper's way and fell off the platform.
"Heather!!!" Sam shouted holding his hand out.
I slowly tried to grab on to his hand but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I gritted my teeth and tried to lwvitate but my powers didn't seem to be working either.
"I cant you moron! I'll fall off!!! Why should I listen to you???!!!" I rebelled trying to find another solution.
"You're the moron! Look, jes grab my hand and I can help!" He said.
"I'm fine!!! Leave me alone!!!"
"Heat!!! Are you OK???!!! Sam, help her!!!" Pepper screeched.
"I'm trying!!!" He said. "But the kid won't listen!!!"
"Did you just call me kid?..." My voice drifted away and I let go of the ledge...
I didn't dare do a thing... I was about to fall to my end. I closed my eyes and knew at once that it'd be all over sooner than I thought.
Sam grabbed my hand and I slotted back into my senses and looked up.
He pulled me back up.
"You idiot!!! I try to save you and what do you do?!!! You get mad at me!!! What were you thinking???!!!" Sam said.
I said nothing and looked down.
"Oh, now you won't say anything???!!!" He exclaimed. "You aren't the Heather I used to love and know... The one I loved hanging out with... The girl who I played with because I loved her... Where did it all go so wrong..."
Everything went silent. The waves rolled up and down on the sand in the distance, the birds flew over the statue and cawed, the wind blew... This might've been all you heard...
I stood up.
"Maybe you never should've loved me at all... Isn't that why we're in this mess?" I said silently walking towards the mouth of the statue.
The cave of the mouth had some strange type of vine and moss growing everywhere that gave off a dim red light.
Before I could touch the moss, I had to follow Robert.
"Dont go poking around in these old places ye hear me young lass?" He said.
"Yeah. OK. Sorry." I mumbled.
He nodded and went on all fours and sniffed the air.
"Follow me." He said continuing to walk on all fours. He scampered off into the dark and me and Pepper and... Sam... Had to get some light with their glowing eyes, my sword, her fans, and Aurora balls.
Robert was scampering off fast. So we tried to catch up to him. Even I don't know how he could do that at such an old age. Suddenly, he stopped.
He stood up again and dusted himself off.
"We're here kids." He said pointing at a large stone door with his elbow.
There was a key slot. Very different from my amulet however. Robert then carefully pushed me aside and popped a golden coin with a crystallized edge in the hole.
Like a vending machine...
The door opened and there was a sudden mist surrounding us. I coughed. It was thick and hard to see. Our lights dimmed down in the mist but I could still hear their voices.
"Guys??!!! Where the heck are you???" I asked into the great cloud.
I walked slowly. There could be a ledge of some sort. Suddenly, I felt someone grab my arm.
"Get off me!!!" I shrieked and grabbed them by the shirt.
I looked into the fear in her eyes... Oh God... I almost hit Pep. I'm screwed.
"Let go of me... Please???..." She asked. I immediately let go and she breathed in and out. "I hate it here, this is creepy, I just want to find the others." She whimpered.
"So do I. Let's... Stay together. Like you do." I said shrugging.
She gave the communicator amulet on my neck a pull. "Don't forget please." She said.
"Oh yeah. That old thing." I said.
Pepper clutched my wrist. She was scared. I couldn't have not expected it. But I wish she were a bit braver.
I bumped into something. I looked behind me, it was a tree... With some of that red moss... This just keeps getting weirder. I don't know what's going on... But I don't like it. Not one bit.
"Heather?... Where are the guys?" She asked me.
"They're probably together. Sam won't stop until he finds you. You know that." I said.
We continued walking through the mist. I don't know how is there so much behind a statue that is surrounded in ocean. Everything weirds me out here.
And I mean everything. I mean, wassup with that moss?
"Heather listen, I hear a voice singing?..." She said.
I strained my ears. I could hear faint singing... It wasn't a girls voice either...
"Pep, should we follow it?" I asked her.
"Why me? You pick." She said.
"Fine. Let's see who that voice is." I said charging through the mist Pepper catching up to me.
The mist was slowly clearing up and I could see trees covered in those vines and moss.
I suddenly slammed into a wall and tripped over a vine after the impact. I landed on the ground with a hard thump. I got a lotta scratches with that one.
"Aaiiiaa??? Are you OK?" She said fumbling with me.
"I'm good." I said clutching my elbow.
"Let me see that! You poor baby!!!" She started healing me up again.
"Shay, Shay. I ain't no little... Kid..." I said my voice slowly fading.
"Are you ok? Does anything else hurt???" She asked frantically.
"No! I'm fine." I stood up again. "Where are we even?"
I looked up and walked backwards a bit. It was an ancient old thing. Really old. The thing I ran into was a pillar. This mustve looked like a really big temple before.
Then, I heard the song again. It was a bit louder now. I recognized the lyrics... I knew them somehow.
"Why would someone be in an abandoned temple singing a song about lovers?..." I asked myself.
Beating hearts, intertwined...
I'll be yours, you'll be mine...
We'll be here for all of time...
This isn't our end of the line...
The words sounded awfully familiar... The song really ticked me off at the same time. I felt... Mad? And depressed for some reason even if I don't know what the actual fresh heck was going on.
I shook my head. Just follow the song...
Don't do it ya dumb fire! You are crazy! You can kill Pepper here and now since you two are the only ones! Just wipe off the blood and say a monster got her!!!
Easy as that?...
Yeah... You can bet that dumb amulet that we had to enter a dumb ancient temple for on that.
You entered an ancient temple?...
Heh, heck I did. Flaubert dragged me there to find some stupid amulets of immortality and all that- Hey!!! Why am I telling you all this???!!!
Wait up!!! Tell me the rest!!!
Silence. Dead silence.
"Heather???..." Pepper was waving her hand across my face.
I shook my head. "What did I miss?" I asked.
"Nothing. Let's just follow the song." Pepper said.
We walked into the ancient ruins. There was a lot of Moss growing inside of the building. The mist only reached my ankles. I could hear crumbling sounds and the song was slowly fading away.
"We have to find the source! Hurry it's fading away!" I told Pepper taking off through the building until I bumped into someone.
I fell and rubbed my head.
I looked up.
Her gentle eyes were filled with relief and sadness. I knew who this was...
"Oh my! Are you alright dearie?" She asked. Then she gasped.
