School

I woke up and stretched while I felt and clutched my head that was banging like a drum. I could hear the sound of birds singing and the bright sunlight from the window practically blinded me.

My head was killing me. So were my hips and side. I fought it anyway and struggled to get out of bed.

Just then, I heard footsteps. A knock on the door shook me up.

"Good morning Heather dear... Get ready for your breakfast." Tamsin said smiling. I smiled back sleepily and yawned.

"Thanks Mom..." I yawned again.

I have a mom. But this is my Hearthian one. Pretty sweet right?

I left my bedroom and I was walking down the stairs to the dining room. I smiled at the polished mirrors hanging from the side of Tamsin and her brothers house. Tamsin wasn't Queen or anything but she was related to the king. I never mentioned that his name was King Arthur.

Kinda ironic and weird right? Like, Knights of the round table weird. Fennick was especially friendly and Audrey wasnt but they both were very secretive. Fennick was small and shy even shorter than me. Audrey is taller than me, a head taller.

Fennick suddenly ran by and was holding a red and blue notebook. Audrey was screaming and running after him. She suddenly sprouted a pair of peach feathered wings that fade into white. I shook my head. The other Audrey didn't have wings like that. Fennick also sprouted a pair of light yellow or pastel yellow that fades into Patel green.

When they reached the bottom of the staircase their wings went back into their bodies. I stred at my own. Can I even do that?...

I shrugged and flew all the way downstairs. All three of us were laughing and smiling. Suddenly, Tamisn came in and shook her head.

" What did I tell you two about flying in the house? And you never told Heather about the rule..." She sighed.

"Sorry Mom." I said.

"Sorry Auntie." Fennick said shyly.

"Eh. Just tell Fennick to give me back my notebook and I'll be fine." Audrey shrugged. She reminded me a lot of myself. "Come on, please bro?..."

But me and Hailey were never close and we barely called each other sis or liked talking to each other.

"Fine..." He muttered.

Tamsin nodded. "Come now, dessert before breakfast?..." She asked and chuckled.

They squealed and sprouted their wings again and flew into the dining room. Tamsin sighed and walked into the room.

I walked in. It was a lot like an outdoor garden or a large greenhouse than a dining room. It had losts of flowers in pastel colors which were mostly pink, the dome of glass above us reflected the bright sunlight, flutterflies were everywhere, and the table was regal and pink and white and groaning under the weight of foods and sweets. It seemed too girly to me, but it was good. The sweet scent of pie filled my nose. I missed it actually. Fennick and Audrey both had a pie each with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles on top. I gulped. My mouth was closed but I could tell my mouth was watering.

"Why don't you eat with us?... It'll be a pleasure." Tamsin smiled. I nodded.

King Arthur, or my Hearthian uncle, Sat down and a flutterfly landed on his head.

Fennick was trying hard not to laugh and Audrey was sputtering. Tamsin giggled and I shrugged it off. I sat down and stared at the different forks and spoons set in a fancy order.

Oh great..! I don't do fancy geez!!! I grabbed a small fork at random and poked my pie a little. Then I shrugged and had a bite. Another thing I miss was the taste of blueberries..  Sweet juice oozing in my mouth. I smiled.

Fennick and Audrey both had finished their pie fast and were arguing over the same cupcake.

"I'm the oldest, and I should get it first." Audrey told him.

"By only and exactly 3.5 seconds!!!" He said. "We were born on the same day, the same week, year, and month!!!"

"So what?! I can fly faster than you!!!"

"And I'm smarter than you!"

"And I saved all of you..." I grumbled eating my pie.

That shut both of them up. Tori sighed and Uncle A chuckled.

"Kids... Why don't you split that cupcake in half?... There are more than one..." He said.

They muttered and sighed. Then Fennick cut the cupcake in half and have the other half to his sister.

"Here you go..." He said.

"Eh. Whatever. Thanks though..."

They were obviously very close. And friendly. Oh no, not you Audrey... You're a stupid piece of nothing but I respect you.

I poked at my pie again and sighed. I ate the last bite then pushed my plate.

"Guess I'm done. Gotta go-"

"Now, now, young one, you are going to school." Tamsin said.

I slapped my forehead. Already???

***

It was a special school... But for both Hearthian and human. They told me it would help me nature and give me a good nature or something like that. I was surprised when someone greeted me.

"There's my babe. What about a kiss eh?" He said straightening his cap.

I rolled my eyes. "Look here, Dennis!" I spat. "I don't want to talk to you or go out with you anymore. We broke up two years ago!!!"

By two years, I mean when I was still a girly-girl. I shuddered. I still hated him no matter how long we've been done.

"Oh, come on, I've been looking back and regretting all that I've done. Wanna get back together?" He smiled. He was a little handsome with his black floppy hair and his mucular stature, but I was not interested at all. I preferred the jokey, hoodie loving Hearthian.

"Goodbye. Stupid!" I said. I flew on top of the building and landed on the roof. There was an open space which led to the outdoor field, the track, and the gym. I flew down and brushed a feather.

I saw him in the distance and he mouthed the words stupid a-hole.

I stuck my tongue out and did the middle finger boss-style.

Someone tugged at my shirt, I turned around and looked down... It was just Marco.

"Hey little guy!!!" I ruffled his hair.

"Hi!!! I'm in the first grade!!! Isnt it fun???!!!" He asked.

"Yep."

For you.

I sighed. Highschool could be nothing but fun.

"I have to go!!! Bye!!!" He shouted running off.

I smiled and walked away. I looked at my classroom door and sighed and grumbled. Better give it a chance.

Everyone stared at me for a minute but I shrugged it off and sat down.

"Why don't you take off your wings?... It isn't Halloween..." Some girl asked me. She seemed shy, wore glasses, had braces and ash blonde hair. She was wearing those weird uniforms that some preppy girls wear. Obviously very smart. It's always the quiet ones.

"I'm a Hearthian. It's part of me." I muttered.

She squeaked and then cupped her mouth and nodded shyly.

I nodded and dumped my backpack on the floor beside my desk. I got a seat in the middle beside the large glass window. The sky wasn't really bright anymore. It was getting darker.

Someone opened the door and immediately turned their gaze to me and gritted their teeth.

I rolled my eyes and watched them sit down... It was Audrey...

Audrey took the seat across the row, far from me. I don't know why she hated me, but she did. Fennick didn't seem to be coming. He was probably in the second section. Or Section B, I'm in section A.

Then, the bell rang. It was time for the classes. I sighed and laid my head down on my arms on my desk. The 'I'm about to sleep' position.

Our class had more human than Hearthian. Some easily gained friends and we're already socializing. Especially the more humanoid ones.

The teacher that came in was a Hearthian. She looked like the formal strict type. She was tall and didn't seem to smile. Her wire glasses made her look even more strict. And pencil skirt meant that she meant business. Serious business.

"Good morning class. I will now take the register and your names will decide where you will be seated."

Everyone stayed silent and nodded. I mean, who knows? This Hearthian might even have fangs!

"Hmmm... Gerald Anthony, beside Audrey." He pointed to a human boy and a female Hearthian. "Front row! Immediately!"

Gerald immediately scrambled to his seat while Audrey just shrugged and walked their slowly. And she continued taking the register until someone opened the door.

Everyone watched that hoodie, that smile... They couldn't be taken for someone else.

"You are late! State your name, year, and section!"

Sam didn't seem the slightest bit scared. "Err... Sam. In Hearthian, I'm twenty years old and in human I'm sixteen. They said that I was supposed to be-"

20?! Gawd, he's older.

"Ah yes..." She said sarcastically. "You. The comedian." She rolled her eyes.

"Anyway, where were we... Ah yes, Dennis Earlington and Heather Field. Now."

I hung my mouth open. I saw Dennis on the other side of the room walking to his seat. He smirked at me.

"Ehehehe... Mrs... Can I not sit there?..." I asked her.

"No. No exceptions!!! I do not care if you saved our race or not! I require discipline!!!"

I rolled my eyes, grabbed my backpack and walked to the desk right beside Dennis.

"Hey baby... Can't escape me now huh...?"

"Leave me alone." I grumbled feeling my sword materialize and glitch out fast.

"Come on, just a little kiss?..." He said holding me close.

I shoved him off and sat as far away as I could from him. Which were only a few inches.

He rolled his eyes and smirked. "Why don't you be girly again?"

"Because of you..." I mumbled.

"Sam! Beside Heather." She pointed at the desk beside me. I tried hard not to smile. I didn't want Sam in on the scene or to get hurt. Last time I remembered, the reason I broke up with him beofre was because he was way to violent. Heh, I was worse.

Sam smiled at me and I did too but he was silent.

"Now! I am Mrs. Aeromecia! One of your Hearthian teachers. I'd like you to copy the class schedule in your notebooks. Now!!!" She demanded fiercely.

Everyoen immediately got put there notebooks even I did. But I hated it all the way. There wasn't much noise except for the sound of my pen tapping.

"Field! Stop that disturbance at once!"

I sighed and stopped. I looked at my blank page and boredly rewrote the class schedule. It was obvious that this was going to suck.

***

The bell rang after a year in Hearthian time. I sighed and pulled at my hoodie. I hated highschool.

It was the lunch bell. The signal of the gross cafeteria food. They were serving tofu salad, burgers which smelled like two-week old garbage, and vegetable spaghetti.

I wasn't that hungry and the smell of the food already made me put off lunch altogether. I clutched my side. It was hurting again.

I slwoly walked putnofnthe vafeteriaband into the field. There were barely any people so I sat on the grass. I buried my head in my arms while I was sitting then I heard a rustling noise.

"Hey... You OK Heat?..."

I looked up a little. "Sup Sam..."

'Besides the sky, ceiling, space, galaxy, Earth, he heavens, all that. Nothing much." He shrugged.

I smiled a little.

"Uh, hey, you have a fry stuck in your hair..." Sam said.

I felt my head. Sure enough there was a French fry there. I just threw it at the trash can in the distance.

"How long was that even there?!" I asked laughing.

"I dunno. I just saw it for a split second." He said.

I nodded then felt myself blushing. "So... I'll go with you later?... After school...?" Is asked.

He also broke into a slight blue blush himself. "Uh. Sure... OK..." He smiled sheepishly.

"Heads up!" A voice shouted in the distance.

Sam tried to push me out of the way and I felt something round hit my arm. I yelped in pain and landed on top of Sam. He was lying down and I was looking down at him. I quickly got up and yelped in pain again. It was really painful.

I saw a football on the other side of my arm. It was probably the thing that hit me.

"Hey! Heat! You ok?!" Sam asked alarmed.

"The world is trying to murder me..."  I laughed and squeaked again.

Sam levitated me and brought me to the clinic. The nurse said I had some serious injuries. My arm might've been broken if it weren't for Sam. But Sam himself hurt his arm. His writing arm even.  I hurt my head, side and arm. I had to be excused and brought home. So was Sam.

I called Pepper with my good arm and asked her to help heal me.

She was able to fix my arm and Sam's too. And my side but my head still hurt. A heck lot.

" I can't heal it, I'm sorry. Maybe it requires some advanced magic." Pepper said.

I grunted. Just great. I'm back in the regular world and I'm already injured.

They called in Lacer. It wasn't a physical injury. I was hurt mentally.

"Something is damaging her brain. Like Flaubert used to do." Lacer said. "Sadly, there is no way I can help you."

Everyone then left the room so I could rest.

"So... Are we still going out on that date?..." Sam asked.

"After school. Meet me at the front gate." I smiled.

He blushed and slowly closed the door.

I stared up at the ceiling. Then, the door clicked open. I turned around and saw Dennis.

"So baby... What's up?..." He smirked.

I felt a little unsafe now. Who knows what he could do?...

He sat on one end of the bed and was about to touch my head. I quickly opened the door with my powers and screamed for help.

Three teachers and the school nurse ran in. Dennis was scared.

"Leave her alone Dennis." The nurse said. "It's time for your next class."

He smirked and mouthed the words 'see you later'.

I hate him.
