CHAPTER THREE

" she's a mess of a gorgeous chaos, and you can see it in her eyes "

I'm just laying in my room, on my bed, laying on my stomach, reading one of Elijah's journals

August 1359. I have noticed a difference in my siblings. Our bond strains beneath the pressure of our life as vampires. Each day removes them further from the humanity we once possessed. My sweet sister, Rebekah, has grown quite indifferent to brutality. However, the true problem remains my brother, Niklaus. He continues to hide his loneliness with cruelty. Still, I cling to the hope that I, as their eldest brother, can lead them down the correct path, a path charged with the power of a family united. For if I fail, our family's legacy will end in darkness.

I then heard arguing so I stopped reading and listened in on what Rebekah and Klaus were talking about. "I cannot believe you disposed of those vampires without me. You know how I love to set things on fire," Rebekah told her brother.

"Was I supposed to leave them in the front yard to rot?" Klaus questioned sarcastically. "Besides, they were my responsibility. They attacked the helpless pregnant girl who's carrying my child," I heard Klaus say which made me growl. I was not helpless.

"Oh, I am so moved by your newfound sense of fatherly duties towards the werewolf carrying your hybrid bun in her oven," Rebekah told him, sarcastically.

"The were-coyote would like to know what the plan is " I said, putting inferences on 'were-coyote-, walking into the room with Hayley by my side.

"Well, that depends what plan you mean, love: My plan for global domination, or Rebekah's plan to find love in a cruel, cruel world " Klaus said, with a cute smile. Rebekah grabbed a pencil from the desk beside her and threw it in Klaus' direction, but of course he catches it easily before it can impale his face.

"The plan to rescue Elijah. You know, the good brother. The one who is now in the possession of your mortal enemy after you stabbed him in the back," I told him with a frown, crossing my arms as I stared at the two original vampires.

"In the front, if we're being specific," Klaus said with a small smile on his face. I just shook my head at him, but with a smile of my own.

"You two said that you would get him back. So is there a plan, or what?" Hayley asked them.

"Okay. Well, firstly, Marcel is not my mortal enemy—he's my friend, albeit one who is unaware that I'm trying to sabotage his hold over the supernatural community of the French Quarter, but a friend nonetheless. And secondly, I daggered Elijah in order to gain Marcel's trust. If I had known he would place my brother in the hands of a particularly nasty teenaged witch, I certainly would have weighed my options a bit differently. And thirdly, sister, please." Klaus said, turning to Rebekah. I looked at Rebekah, waiting for whatever she had to say.

"And thirdly, the plan, as you have demanded, is for Niklaus to simply ask Marcel for Elijah back," Rebekah told me as if it was as easy as pie.

"That's not the whole plan, is it?" I asked, gobsmacked. Scott, hell, even Stiles could come up with a better plan than that.

"Please, Klaus may be a miserable excuse for a sibling, but there is none more diabolical," Rebekah told me. I nodded and turned towards Klaus with expectant eyes.

"And that's only the Plan A, love. There's always a Plan B," Klaus informed me, with the smile still on his face.

"And what's plan B?"

"War," Klaus simply said with a wicked smile.

Hayley and I were outside when we heard a twig snap, we walked towards it to find a wolf staring at us.

"You're not suppose to be out here," A voice said from behind us, making us whirl around to find a woman around mid-twenties standing not that far from us.

"Who are you?" I asked, harshly.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I'm Sabine. We met. I'm one of Sophie's friends," Sabine told us, a smile spreading across her face.

"You're one of the witches," Hayley stated, pulling me behind her which made me scoff. Just because I was pregnant, it didn't mean that I couldn't fend for myself.

"Sophie just asked me to come keep you company while everyone's out." There was a pause before she spoke again. "You know, it's drawn to you." Sabine told Hayley who nodded. There was another pause before she looked to me. "The child you're carrying is part vampire, part werewolf. You and Klaus made something special," Sabine told me and I protectively put my hand on my stomach.

"You sound like Elijah. He thinks this baby is going to make us one big, happy family, but now he's gone and I don't even know what... 'it' is," I told her, talking about the baby.

"You know, I can do something about that, if you want. I mean, find out if it's a boy or girl," She told me, her eyes finally leaving my stomach to look me in the eyes.

"I thought you couldn't do witchy stuff here," Both Hayley and I spoke, looking to eachother.

"It's not magic, just an old trick my grandmother taught me. Come on. You have to be a little curious," She said and I nodded, rubbing my stomach.

I was on the laptop searching up some things when Klaus paused at the door, then fully walked in.

"I thought you might like to know, Elijah is returning to us," Klaus told me in a kind voice, I looked up at him with a small smile.

"Congratulations. I guess being diabolical has its perks." I told him, even though I was really grateful.

"You hardly know him, and yet you miss him. What is it about my brother that always inspires such instant admiration?" Klaus asked me, looking sad.

"He was kind to me " I told him and he just stood there and took it in. He then nodded before starting to walk away.

"There are moments when I doubt my family is capable of redemption..." Elijah voiceover.

"Hey, I learned something today. I think it's a girl," I said, stopping him in his tracks, but he didn't turn around.

"And Klaus?" I asked, making him turn around.

"Yeah?" He asked me.

"Thank you," I said with a smile on my face, he gave me a small smile and left.

"Yet each time that I am tempted to surrender, I see it, the glimmer of goodness that allows me to believe."

(FLASHBACK TO EARLIER)

Sabine swung a crystal, hanging by a string, over me, while I lay on the kitchen counter.

"I think it's a girl. No... wait." Sabine said, getting me worried.

"Wait what? Please tell me I'm not having a mini-Klaus," I begged but I knew that I wouldn't mind a little Klaus running around.

The crystal glints in the light and Sabine drops it, gasping, her eyes rolling back in her head.

"Hoc est infantima malom. Nos omnia perditu el eam," Sabine chanted in another language.

(PRESENT DAY)

I entered the same strange words that Sabine uttered into an online translator, but getting no results.
