CHAPTER THIRTEEN
"She was brave and strong and broken all at once."
In the cemetery Sabine/Celeste guided some tourists.
"Each tomb is well cared for. Families honor their dead with display of affection and respect."
Trapped inside her tomb, Monique called out, but the group outside doesn't hear her. "Is someone there?" She banged on the ceiling of the tomb.
"This place belongs to the Deveraux family, known throughout the Quarter for their strong connection to witchcraft." Celeste/Sabine continued to explain, ignoring the small noises coming from the tomb.
"Please help me!" Monique yelled.
"And if you look close, these fresh bricks tell us someone in the family has recently fallen." Monique screamed. The tourists look disturbed by the noise.
In the next moment, Monique bursted out of the wall of bricks and tumbled out of the tomb. The tourists are frightened, though some of them take photographs. Celeste/Sabine bent down to Monique and looks at her creepily. "Hello, Monique. Welcome back to the land of the living."
Elijah crouched near Papa Tunde's corpse. Klaus and Marcel are standing beside him.
"Can I get you anything, brother?" Klaus asked, his voice sounded amused. "A magnifying glass, a pipe perhaps?" He smirked as he looked at his brother who was growing agitated at Klaus' remarks.
"You have a theory you'd like to share with us, Niklaus?" Elijah asked as he looked up at his brother, still crouching down by Papa Tunde.
"Back in the day, the witches wanted to send a threat, they just killed a chicken and leave it on your doorstep," Marcel explained as he looked down at the body and Elijah.
"It's rather a large and ominous chicken, wouldn't you say?" Elijah asked as he stood up. Marcel nodded his head a little, agreeing.
"Papa Tunde defeated Rebekah with ease, almost got the two of us as well." Klaus gestured between Marcel and him. "If he was supposed to be the prize fighter, why leave him for dead in our front yard?" Rebekah then showed up.
"Well, don't you look cheery," Rebekah commented as they all turned and looked at her. "Listen to this: A girl literally exploded from a grave today as Sabine was giving a tour of the city of the dead." She paused as she looked at Elijah. "It was Monique Deveraux."
"What?" Klaus asked in disbelief and confusion.
"The tourists thought it was part of the show, but the witches are celebrating like it's some kind of bloody miracle," Rebekah told them in distaste.
"Maybe it is. They think that all hope is lost, but now suddenly a Harvest girl is resurrected." Marcel narrowed his eyes in thought and turned to Klaus. "This is how we're gonna get Davina back – kill the witch who took her place." Hayley and I then walked halfway down the staircase and stopped.
"I have a theory about who one of them could be," I stated, gaining their attention. Hayley showed them Davina's painting of Celeste. "Celeste." Elijah's eyebrows them shot up at that. "Mean, it's got to be. Davina was trying to tell us, she was drawing pictures of Celeste. She was warning us that a great evil is coming," I told them all in a stern voice. They all needed to see that Hayley and I were right.
"First," Klaus said as he pointed towards Hayley and I, "Papa Tunde returns to settle old scores, " He then turned to Elijah, "now your murdered lover is back. This isn't witches attacking vampires." He paused to be dramatic. "They're declaring war on us." His eyes went from Elijah's to mine. I pushed my hair behind my ear and sighed, looking back at him.
Rebekah got out of the car a few seconds before Hayley and I did.
"I thought I was gonna have to drag you both to the plantation kicking and screaming," Rebekah told both Hayley and I, but I just shrugged. I pushed my hair back as I had it down and curly for the first time in forever. I also dressed up instead of going around in leggings and hoodies all the time.
"Yeah, well we all just wanna protect me, the baby and Hayley, right?" I asked as I turned to look at her. I then started to walk towards the house.
"Hey," Rebekah said sternly, gaining my attention as I turned around and looked at her with my arms crossed. "I'm on your side, remember? So what gives?" She asked me with a slight concerned look on her face.
Hayley who was by my side, sighed and spoke before I could say anything. "Tonight's a full moon, Rebekah."
"So what? You're preggers, you can't turn," Rebekah told me but I shrugged. She then turned to Hayley, "You're a hybrid now and that means you don't have to turn either, so what's the big deal?"
"Yes, but we wanted to invite a few people over," I told Rebekah, raising my eyebrows up to see if she would get the hint or not. That was when realization flashed through her eyes.
"Of course." She looked between Hayley and I. "Every red-blooded American werewolf will be a bundle of fur and sharp teeth tonight, whilst your cursed crescent clan will be–"
"Human, but only for a few hours and won't be again until the next full moon, so..." I trailed off, tilting my head a little. "I asked Josh to get a message out to Eve in the bayou," I explained as I looked Rebekah in the eye.
"Josh isn't dead yet?" Rebekah asked and I shook my head. "Well good on him. I love a nice survival story." A man then left the Mikaelson Mansion with a moving dolly. Rebekah looked surprised. "Who the bloody hell is that?"
"Kegs out back, right?" Hayley asked him and then cleared her throat.
"Yup," He replied casually.
"Right." I turned to look at Rebekah. "It appears you weren't gonna wait for me to grant you permission to throw a kegger." I looked up at her through my eyelashes and shrugged innocently.
"Listen, you all want us safe, fine. I'll do as I'm told. I'll play damsel in the glass tower. But tonight's the one night a month that we can meet my family. I will actually get to meet my real family and not some people who want me dead or acting like my parents. Now you could rat us out, send us to our room, or you could help us throw one hell of a party," I told her sternly. I was actually kinda excited for once in my life to actually see my parents. Peter, who acted like my dad was a psychopath and the Desert Wolf just wanted me dead, so this is a really good opportunity.
Rebekah then smirked at us.
Hayley and I were hanging up some clothes for the werewolves. A golden eyed wolf appeared and looked at Hayley and I, mostly keeping his eyes on Hayley. They stared at each other in the eyes for a few seconds before Hayley smiled.
"Hello, again. I'm looking forward to meeting you soon."
"Malia." I turned around so fast that i'm pretty sure that I got whiplash. My eyes widened once I saw Derek my cou–brother. I had to get used to call him that instead of cousin.
"Derek." I smiled at him and made my way towards him. He looked down at my stomach which made me put a protective hand over it. "What are you doing here?" I asked him once his eyes looked back into mine.
"I heard that my sisters were throwing one hell of a party so I said "Why the hell not?" And then came here." He smiled and the grabbed my hand and then twirled me around. I giggled as he brought me into his chest. "You need to relax and have more fun."
"Who is this, love?" I stepped away from Derek and turned to be faced with Rebekah.
"This is my brother...Derek." I told her and then turned to Derek who had his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Derek this is Rebekah...Klaus' sister." He nodded in understanding.
"Mhmm...brother." Rebekah smirked as she looked him up and down. I rolled my eyes and chuckled. "You didn't tell me you had a brother." She looked at me with hurt in her eyes.
"I didn't know until awhile ago." I told her with a small smile. "I also forgot to tell you that Hayley is my twin sister," I blurted out which made her look at me with wide surprised filled eyes.
"Well, bloody hell."
"I know right." We chuckled. I then noticed that both Derek and Rebekah could barely take their eyes off of each other. "Go dance." I then pushed Rebekah into Derek and walked off chuckling.
Later on, I walked into the house to see Hayley with a shaggy haired man. I noticed that she looked worried as she looked back at me. I turned to the guy and narrowed my eyes at him, wondering what happened that made her worried.
"You must be the pregnant wolf, Malia," He said as he looked at me.
"Were-coyote " I corrected him as I walked towards Hayley. "What's wrong?" I asked her, worried and concerned.
"Something is happening and it's not good." I furrowed my eyebrows, about to ask her another question when she pulled out her phone and dialed Elijah's number. "Elijah, something's going on with the witches." My face twisted together as I grew even more confused. What the fuck is happening? I used my heightened hearing to hear Elijah's side of the conversation.
"Listen to me. You were right. Celeste is back. Niklaus, Rebekah – you're all in danger." At that moment, the door claps shut by a gust of wind. I whirled around, worried.
"What's going on?" Both the shaggy haired man and I asked in unison.
"It's a trap. I didn't make a deal with any witch," Hayley told the guy and that was when everything clicked. The witches wanted us all here for a reason.
"What?" He asked with raised eyebrows and wide eyes.
"Hayley, you and Malia have to find Rebekah. You both stay with her until I get there." I tried to open the door when the house caught on fire. I jumped back, frightened. I put my hand on my stomach. I didn't want to die and I certainly didn't want my baby to die, especially since she hasn't had her first breath of air yet.
"Elijah, it's a spell. They're trapping us inside," I spoke loudly so that Elijah could hear me over our ragged breathing. I followed closely behind Hayley as she walked away from the door. She hung up the phone as we ran for the door but before we could get to it, fire blocked us and the door shut. I grabbed Hayley by the arm and pulled her back.
"Hayley–" Before I could say anything, she turned around to face me with wide scared and worried eyes. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it.
"I know." I nodded at her as a hand grabbed mine and we were dragged away from the door. We then got trapped into the room with the piano in it.
"We have to get out of here," I told the man as I coughed. I used my elbow to try and cover my mouth.
Jackson tried to break through the window with the piano stool, which brokr while the window remained intact. Flames erupt inside the house, torching the curtains and the carpet. We bent down to the floor, trying to stay far away from the fire. Jackson poured water from a vase of flowers onto two towels and handed them to Hayley and I.
"Here. Breathe through this."
We coughed. The fire gains size. Suddenly a window shattered. It's Elijah, fighting his way through the fire. He lifts both Hayley and I and brought us outside and laid us on the ground. Hayley grabbed me by the hand as we both looked at Elijah.
"Where's Rebekah?" He asked us worried for his sister.
"I don't know." I coughed and looked up at him. "I left her with our brother but the last I saw was when she was dancing with him." I explained and then coughed again.
"Elijah, my friend is still in there," Hayley told Elijah, looking at the house. Elijah then zoomed in there and not that long later, he came out with the guy in his arms.
"Malia!" I heard someone yell. I looked over to the voice to see Derek running towards Hayley and I. He made it to us and crouched down to where he was face to face with us.
"Is this our brother?" Hayley asked and I turned my head to look at her and nodded.
"Where's Rebekah?" I asked and that was when I noticed that his clothes were ripped and he had bite marks and blood all over him. "What the hell happened!?"
"Some guy took Rebekah out in the woods so I followed because I got a bad feeling and then at least four wolves came out of nowhere and attacked us as the guy backed away and watched. He ran off once he saw me. Both Rebekah and I fought but I was thrown so hard into a tree that I hit my head and got knocked out. I woke up not that long ago to see Rebekah gone and all the wolves dead," He explained and then looked towards the house which was still on fire. "What happened here?"
"Stupid witches," I said through clenched teeth. "Once I get my hands on them, I will break their fucking necks." I growled and my eyes flashed blue as I looked at the house. How dare they think that they could kill us, especially my baby!?
"I'm with you on that," Hayley and Derek replied in sync which made me look at them with one eyebrow raised.
"Hayley and I are suppose to be the twins here," I said with amusement.
"Shut up," They both said and then we all three chuckled.
"MARCEL!" I heard Elijah yell so both Hayley and I rushed towards where we heard it come from. "Where is my brother?"
"I got guys out looking for him right now," Marcel stated calmly. Elijah starts throwing vampires against the walls.
"Elijah!" Both Hayley and I yelled in unison, stopping him from throwing anymore vampires.
"Klaus threw one of his classic temper tantrums, snapped my neck, tried to take on a coven of witches by himself. He got dropped. I don't know where he is or how to find him." Marcel explained to an enraged Elijah. My breathe hitched, worried for Klaus. What if he's dead? I don't want my baby to grow up without a father.
"They also have Rebekah," Elijah told Marcel who them showed a little concern. "Every one of you will help me to find them," He demanded loudly to the the vampires in the room, his voice cracking a little. "I'm gonna kill them all," He stated with his eyes narrowed at Marcel.
"I'll help," I stated.
