CHAPTER TEN
"The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places."
I was standing in front of a mirror, trying to fasten the zipper on my dress. Elijah appeared at the door behind me, startling me a little.
"Would you like some help?" He asked me as he leaned on the door.
I smiled up at him in appreciation. "You might need to use all your vampstrength," I joked, earning a smile from him.
"Allow me," Elijah made his way behind me and began to fasten the zipper and buttons that were on the dress.
"Thanks, I wouldn't need your help if I knew where Hayley was." I looked back at him with a smile on my face, seeing the dazed look he got when I mentioned my sister. "Not too many pregnant Casket Girls, I guess," I added as I looked in the mirror, admiring the dress.
"I think you look lovely. Only I would..." He touched my birth mark and I quickly covered it with my hand.
"I know, keep the freaky werewolf birthmark covered." I smiled up at him, showing my teeth.
"Well, I don't suspect any of the riff-raff here would dare lay a hand on you, knowing you're under the protection of my family. Still, you shouldn't take any chances," He told me and I nodded, thinking about how Klaus would kill a person if they dare laid a hand on me. I looked at myself in the mirror and sighed.
"All knocked up and nowhere to go."
"You know," Elijah started, "if you wanted the attend the festivities tonight, I would be more than willing to take you," He offered which made me smile at him but I shook my head.
"Hmm... you and Klaus are barely on speaking terms. Let's not rock the boat, okay?" I asked him, tilting my head a little.
"Of course," He replied. He then started to walk away.
"Elijah," I said, gaining his attention. "do you mind?" I gestured to the zipper of the dress. Elijah stepped forward and started unbuttoning and unzipping my dress, his hands touching my back, sending me goosebumps. That was when Hayley walked into the room. He hesitated before smiling and then left.
"What was that about?" Hayley asked.
"I don't know," I told her with a smirk.
Hayley, Rebekah and I were ruffling around chests, looking at old white dress costumes.
"So the witch is missing, huh?" Hayley casually asked Rebekah while stuffing a dress into a chest.
"Walked right out of the front door, apparently. Know anything about it?" She asked as she looked up at Hayley.
"No, although we did tell her that the witch Elders were dead." Hayley stood up, gesturing to both her and I.
"Well, why would she care, when the witches tried to kill her in their ritual?" Rebekah asked us
"I think it was more that Marcel didn't tell her that the one thing preventing her from being free had been eliminated," I explained to Rebekah, knowing that if I was Davina, I would be acting the same way.
"So you are the reason she's run off," Rebekah accused us which made me scoff.
"Hey, we were just telling her the truth. She's the one who realized they were just using her to keep their control over the witches," Hayley told Rebekah sternly, going into overprotective sister mode.
"Yeah well, I've never been a fan of the boys club. Just wait, Elijah will join them and the three of them will be impossible." We looked up and watched Marcel and Klaus on the balcony who were muttering quietly. "Used by the witches, lied to by Marcel, manipulated by Elijah, threatened by Klaus. Just like a modern-day Casket Girl," Rebekah stated a little bitterly.
"Are you talking about Davina or yourself?" I asked her softly. I felt terrible for her, she was my friend after all.
"Does it matter?" She asked me, then looked between both Hayley and I. "Either way, us girls have got to stick together."
Hayley is walking through the courtyward with two of Klaus' guards behind her.
"I know Klaus told you to follow me, but does that really mean you have to follow me to the bathroom?" The two guards crossed their arms over their chests as Hayley's phone rung. She lifted her phone and saw "Sophie Deveraux". "Give me two minutes." Hayley heads into the parking garage and shuts the door, answering her phone. "What the hell do you want?"
The scene shifted back and forth from Hayley to Sophie standing in the graveyard.
"I know you don't trust me, but you need to listen. Everything is about to change. Davina's on the loose," Sophie's voice said through the phone.
"Figured that out on your own, huh? Remind me again why I should give a damn?" Hayley asked her, annoyed and full of hatred towards the witch.
"I need something from you so that the witches can complete the Harvest," Sophie told her.
"On what planet would I help you witches get more power? All you've done is hex my sister left and right."
"You'll help me because if we don't complete the Harvest, our access to magic will fade for good, which doesn't bode well for your family," Sophie bargained, knowing that Hayley will do anything for her family.
"What do you know about my family?" Hayley asked angrily.
"You and Malia are from the Crescent Wolf bloodline. Marcel forced a witch to curse them so they'd be trapped in wolf form," Sophie explained to her.
"And I should keep listening to you because...?" Hayley asked as she rolled her eyes.
"Because my bloodline executed that curse. Help me complete the Harvest and I'll undo the curse for you," Sophie told her.
"But what can I do?"
"I need to consecrate the remains of a powerful witch so I can absorb their magic. I know of one whose body was never found. Her name is Celeste DuBois. I believe you and she have a friend in common?" Sophie asked, knowing that Hayley cared about this certain someone, and so did her sister.
"Elijah," Hayley muttered.
"Story goes that when she died, he buried her in a secret spot at her request. All you have to do is find out where."
Hayley hung up and sighed.
My phone rung through my bedroom, bringing me out of my thoughts. I wondered who would he calling me at this time. I got out of my bed and made my way to my dresser where my phone was. I picked it up and answered it without looking at the called ID.
"Hello?" I asked with a sigh.
"Malia, I haven't seen you for awhile," A voice said through the phone, making a growl escape my lips.
"Why are you calling me?" I barked into the phone.
"Why wouldn't I call my cousin?"
"Cousin?" I asked, a bitter laugh escaping my lips, pouring into the phone. "Cousin!?" I yelled this time. "You're not my fucking cousin!" I yelled through the phone, my grip on it tightening. "You're my fucking older brother!" I started pacing my room, pulling at my hair. "I have a fucking twin sister that I thought was just my half sister since forever!" I stopped my pacing and punched the wall, leaving a hole in it. "Were you ever going to tell me!?" I yelled, outraged. "Were you ever going to tell me that I have a twin sister? That I have an older brother, that was you all this time? Were you ever going to tell me that I never actually killed my real mother!? Were you!?"
"H-how did you-" He didn't get to finish his sentence because I started crying. I never really cried that much, but I couldn't hold in my emotions anymore.
"You, you lied to me," I stated, my voice breaking. "I have been lied to by many people, but by you, it just puts the cherry on top of the fucking cake!" I exclaimed, sitting down on my bed. "I killed my adoptive mom and sister and I was a were-coyote for half of my life. I then went through all that supernatural shit with you and the pack. I fell in love and then got my heart broken!" My voice was going quiet. "My mom, who I just recently found out that really wasn't my mom, tried to kill me but I killed her instead," I rambled, thinking about all the shit that I had to go through just to get to where I was now. "How could you never tell me that I had a brother - which is you - and a twin sister?" I asked, my voice cracking. I have been holding in my emotions for way too long now.
"I-I didn't find out until recently, I got a call from an unknown person, they told me to come to New Orleans because my sister was here. I told him that my family was dead and that my sister was currently with me. He then went into small detail about how you're my sister and that Hayley is your twin. Before I could say anything else, he told me that you were in danger and that you needed my help, then he hung up," Derek explained, his voice also cracking. "I couldn't trace the number or anything," He added before I could ask another question.
"So you're my brother?" I asked with a chuckle, trying to break the tension.
"Yeah, I guess so."
Hayley enters the house, her two bodyguards in her wake.
"I'm just grabbing some clothes. Give me two minutes, please?" Hayley went to walk up the stairs until the guards were out of sight. She then went to a trunk that was in another room and pulls out Elijah's journal. She looked for anything about Celeste, and read several passages.
Elijah's voiceover, "Celeste entrances me... She is perfection... She is dead. Even as the sun rises, I see only night. But for the promise I made to her, that in death, I would bury her far from the mayhem of witches, vampires, and men..." Hayley looked up from the book with a guilty look on her face.
"I am so sorry, Elijah."
"Hey, are you okay?" Hayley asked me and I nodded, happier than I was when Derek and I had that emotional breakdown through the phone.
"Yeah, I had a conversation with our brother," I told her, getting my emotionless face back on.
"Yeah, how'd that go?" She asked as she crossed her arms.
"Surprisingly good," I told her with a small smile. "He was told to come here to protect me by some unknown person. He didn't know we were siblings until that person told him," I explained, sitting down on my bed. She then looked at the wall and saw the hole that I tried to cover up, but failed to. She looked at me and raised her eyebrows. "Well...I did get a little angry," I told her sheepishly. "Oops." She just chuckled at me.
"You should go to bed, you look like you need to rest," Hayley told me and
I nodded and a yawn escaped my mouth which made us both chuckle. Hayley left my room as I started to get ready to take a shower. I grabbed a pair of black booty shorts and a white t-shirt that reached my mid thigh. I quickly took my shower and then after that, got into my bed.
"Well, goodnight to me." I muttered before falling asleep.
Not that long after she fell into an oblivion, Klaus came into her room and looked at her adoringly. He walked to the side of her bed and caressed her cheek. Malia made a cute little growl in her sleep, making him smile. He loved how her nose scrunched up, almost in a puppy like way.
"No," She mumbled in her sleep, she started gripping the bed sheets. Klaus looked down at her in worry. Her eyes flew open and was met by worried ocean blue eyes. She gasped and sat up quickly. Klaus - who thought that he scared her - started backing up with sad eyes.
"I-I'm sorry," He said and then started to leave the room.
"Klaus," Her voice stopped him in his tracks. He never heard her sound so vulnerable before, and that is why he stopped.
"Yes?" He asked as he turned and looked at her broken brown eyes, making him wonder what she went through, and he promised himself that he will be there to protect her and glue her broken pieces back together.
"Will, will you stay with me?" She asked him, looking at him with hesitant but hopeful eyes.
"Are you sure you want-" He didn't get to finish his sentence.
"Yes, please." She grabbed his wrist which made his breathe hitch. He felt electricity fly up his arm where she touched him.
"Okay," He whispered and got into bed. What he didn't expect was for her to cuddle into him, her head on his chest. "Goodnight, little red." He mumbled to her and kissed the top of her head, bringing his arms around her in a protective way.
"Don't leave me."
"I would never dream of it, little red."

Before you started asking me questions, I didn't add her into the whole Celeste thing because I felt that Hayley was betraying Elijah so that's why I didn't add Malia into it.
Just a reminder, any romantic like scene between Klaus and another character, never happens in this book unless I say so...
What did you guys think about the small banter between her and Derek? I kinda liked it because it showed some of her feelings and how broken she is. I just wanted to remind you all that both Malia and Klaus are heavily broken and that they will slowly piece back each other's broken pieces.
Before you continue, here's a small video for Klaus and Malia that I made. It sucks but whatever!
