CHAPTER FOUR
" i was raised to run with the wolves and I will not stop just because you told me you can't stand that i'm wild "
"I told you Agnes, I feel great!" I exclaimed to the older witch. She was being too persistent. I continued to flip through the book that I was currently holding.
"If she says she's fine, she's fine," Hayley told Agnes with an eye roll, getting irritated with the witch.
"You are overdue for a checkup," She told me calmly.
"What am I gonna do?" I asked, setting the book down. "Pop into the Quarter for a quick ultrasound? A pregnant werecoyote escorted by a witch—nothing to see here!" I threw my hands up in the air.
"A lot of women would kill to have a child. It strikes me as odd that you're not taking better care of yours," Rebekah said from across the room, her back towards us while she typed away at her computer.
"I know a doctor out in the bayou. Off the beaten path. Now, I took the liberty of making an appointment for you. Tonight, after-hours, just us. Vampires will never get word of it," Agnes told me, her eyebrows raised and her eyes wide, showing dark chocolate eyes. I thought about it, letting out a sigh and an eye roll.
"Okay, fine," I told her, looking towards Hayley.
"Bayou-baby-doctor it is," Hayley said with a small smile. The three of us got up off our asses, walking towards the door.
"This is the doctor's office?" I asked, raising my eyebrows and pointing towards the small building that's in the middle of the woods. It was currently in the middle of the night, making me a little suspicious of the whole ideal.
Agnes smiled at me, glancing back at Hayley. "Dr. Paige is only this far out because Marcel's men kept terrorizing her patients. Go! She won't bite!" She told me in a very creepy calm voice. I nervously got out of the car, the same time Hayley did. We looked at each other and slowly made it into the building.
"
A unique birthmark," Dr. Paige said to Hayley as she was giving me an ultrasound, we could faintly hear the fetal heartbeat. Hayley fixed her shirt, covering up the mark.
"Your baby's heart rate is perfect," She told me, smiling. I smiled back at her.
"I knew it. She's a tough one, like her mom," Hayley said as she came towards me. Dr. Paige chuckled and hands me a tissue to wipe the ultrasound gel off, which I do. Hayley grabbed my hand and helped me sit up even though I didn't need any help.
"We're pretty much done here, right?" I asked as I got a text from Rebekah, which reads "Where are you?".
"Your blood pressure is a bit high, I've got something for it," She told me, I watched as she walked away. I texted "Bayou clinic with doctor" to Rebekah.
Suddenly, a wolf howled loudly, startling both Hayley and I. We get up to look out the window but saw a car's headlights approaching, which made me even more suspicious and anxious. And at that time, Dr. Paige returned with my medication.
"Ahh, you know, I'm-I'm actually not that good with pills," I told her nervously, pushing a piece of hair behind my ear.
"Heh, neither am I, truth be told," She said a little nervously, sending me a smile as she sets the medicine cup on the table and starts preparing something.
A group of intimidating-looking men walk into the clinic and whisper something unintelligible to Agnes. I turned around to see Dr. Paige preparing a syringe, when she turned around, she lunged at me to inject me with it. I grabbed her arm and pushed it away from me, head-butting her, making her disoriented, and then I stabbed the syringe into the her neck.
I turned to look at the door, where I could see the men. They looked my way and bolted towards us. Hayley managed to shut and lock it before they could enter. One of the men rattled the doorknob as I struggled to open the window to escape. Hayley ran towards me and helped me with the window, almost literally pushing me out of it.
We managed to get out of the room right before the men barged in.
Hayley grabbed my hand as we ran into the woods.
Hayley and I hid behind a tree as some men ran past us, not noticing that we were there. I ran up to them and kicked the first man I encountered in the gut, knocking him to the ground. I jumped and kicked the second man down as well, and snapped his neck. A third man tried to attack me, but I grabbed a knife from his hand and cut his neck with it as I spun in the air.
When a fourth attacked me, I grabbed his shotgun, and knocked him to the ground, and possibly killed him as I kicked him and beat him in the head with the butt of the shotgun.
I crouched on the ground, and flashed my blue eyes as I looked for any more threats. A large, burly man started making his way to me but before Hayley or I could react, his neck was snapped from behind by Rebekah, who had just arrived.
"Have to say, I'm impressed," Rebekah said, letting out a breathe and shook her head in amusement by my actions. I do what I have to do to be able to survive.
"How did you find us?" Hayley asked, out of breathe. I looked over and found a dead body, a body that neither I nor Rebekah killed. I guess she had a fight of her own.
"Your text got me halfway, vamping here did the rest," She told us, aiming it more to me since I was the one who texted her. "Who are they?" She asked us as she looked at the bodies that littered the ground.
"Witches, warlocks, whatever," I told her, as my eyes surveyed our surroundings, looking for anymore danger.
"There're more of them," Rebekah acknowledged as we saw more men with flashlights, making their way towards us. "Run!" She yelled at us.
Hayley was the first to run, but I was more reluctant. With the pack aka Scott and the others, I had never ran away unless it was very necessary. Scott was the alpha, so I listened to every demand or any wordnhe said... most of time, at least.
"If I had a dollar for every mess my family has got me into..." I heard Rebekah mutter to herself before she was cut off. I turned around to find Rebekah on the ground with arrows imbedded in her.
"Rebekah!" Hayley and I both shouted. Hayley ended up shot, falling to the ground. I went to run to her but she yelled at me to run.
"Please, Malia," She muttered. "Run!" She yelled before her eyes fell shut. I hesitated but ran anyway. But I didn't get far before I fell down to the ground, an arrow through my leg and another one through my arm.
Rebekah woke up with a gasp, pulling the arrows out of her body. She looked around her, finding bodies torn and maimed. They looked like they were eaten by an animal, more like a wolf or something.
"What the hell?" She muttered to herself. She gasped for breathe as she forced herself to stand up. "Malia!" She shouted. "Hayley!" She shouted even louder, getting no answers in return. That was until she heard a twig being snapped.
She turned around in time to find Hayley dazed and confused. "What the hell happened and where in the bloody hell is Malia!?" She asked frantically. She was beginning to enjoy having the werecoyote around, not like she would say it out loud or anything.
"I don't know," Hayley muttered. "I woke up with an arrow in my collar bone, surrounded by dead bodies." She explained to the Original barbie vamp. "Where is my sister?" She asked as she looked around the area.
"I don't know!" Rebekah yelled, throwing her hands up in the air. "That's why I bloody asked you." She sighed, running her hand through her blonde locks.
"Let's go find her," Hayley demanded, walking away from Rebekah.
I stumbled toward Hayley, Rebekah and Klaus, clothes were tattered and dirty. I was so dazed and exhausted.
The three of them made their way to me, concerned and worried.
"Malia!" Klaus yelled as he ran towards me. "What happened? Tell me what happened," He demanded, sounding frantic.
"I can't remember," I told him, looking towards the ground with wide eyes. Klaus gently grabbed my arm and examined me, looking for wounds.
"You've completely healed. There's not a scratch on you," He told me as he kept looking over me.
"One of the perks of being a werecoyote, remember?" I asked, tilting my head a little.
"No, not that fast," He told me, shaking his head. He looked like he was about to burst any second.
Rebekah ran over to me and wrapped an arm around me, protectively. "Leave her alone!" She yelled at her brother, slowly helping me towards the porch steps. She thought for a second. "It's the baby. The vampire blood, Klaus' vampire blood, in your system, it can heal any wound," She explained to me, as Klaus turned and stares at her incredulously. "Your own child healed you," She told me with a smile on her face.
Klaus smiled at the thought, but nobody noticed, nobody but me.
"How did you escape? Outnumbered, unarmed?" She asked me, keeping an arm around me. "Those men were ripped to shreds!"
"I think it was the wolf. I think it's trying to protect me. Or maybe it's protecting me because i'm Hayley's sister, but nonetheless, protecting me," I explained to them, looking up at my sister who made it to the left side of me, sitting down on the steps.
Klaus angrily pointed to me. "The witches were supposed to protect you! When I get my hands on Sophie Deveraux–" He yelled out but got cut off.
"It wasn't Sophie–" Hayley started but I cut her off.
"It was Agnes."
"Fine! Agnes, Sophie, it's all the same to me! I'll slaughter the lot of them!" He yelled out, throwing his hands up a little.
"Not if Elijah gets there first," Rebekah intervened, both Hayley and I both perked up at the name of the noble original.
"Elijah?" I asked, looking towards Rebekah. "Did you find him?" I asked hopefully, missing the sad look that Klaus had on his face. Why was it always his brother? Why was he never the one?
"He's been in touch, and he has a plan. All he asks is that we take care of you," She explained to me in a kind voice. "Both of you," She added, looking at Hayley.
I smiled at that. "Hey, so... can we go home now?" I asked, missing the happy looks coming from Rebekah and Klaus when I called the plantation 'home'. "I'd really like to sleep for a few days," I told them, standing up. Klaus nodded at me with a small smile.
When I went to walk, I stumbled and started to fall, but Klaus zoomed over and caught me and picked me up bridal style.
"Ooh, I've got you, love. I've got you," He whispered into my ear, I looked up at him with a weak smile on my face. I guess I pushed myself too hard today. I snuggled into Klaus, a sigh of relief left me.
Hayley and Rebekah looked at each other with a smile on their faces, knowing that something was going on between Malia and Klaus.
Rebekah, Hayley and Klaus walk towards their car, I was still in Klaus' arms.
Klaus laid Malia on her bed, tucking the tired coyote in. Rebekah had just changed her into something more comfy. Her sleep wear consisted of sweat pants and a white t-shirt which had belonged to Klaus at one point.
Klaus smiled down at his little red, brushing his finger down her cheek. Her cheek was as soft as a baby's bottom. He bent down and kissed her on the forehead.
"Goodnight, little red."
