CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

"It's okay if you fall down and lose your spark. Just make sure that when you get back up, you rise the whole damn fire."

Monique, Abigail, and Davina are in a tomb at the cemetery, each in different yoga positions, while trying to do a spell.

They chanted in unison. "Vie dans des ancêtres, renforcer noblesse. Comme des ancêtres, de coeur noblesse. Décider on de ancêtres, garder noblesse."

Monique sat up, screaming, and then began to chant. "Aah! Sine la quatrieme puella leve, comme Genevieve ceciderit. Sine la quatrieme puella leve, comme Genevieve ceciderit."

"Monique, are you ok?" Davina asked her and Monique gasped. "Monique, you sounded like you were possessed."

"I wasn't possessed." Monique shook her head. "I was channeling the ancestors. They say it's time to complete the reaping. To do that, the fourth Harvest girl must be resurrected, which means... it's time for Genevieve to die."

"You've gotta be kidding me," Hayley commented, arms crossed as we stood outside on the porch and looked at all of the new werewolves that stood outside in a line.

"Seriously, what is going on? Who are all these people? Why are they standing out here all weird and lurky?" I questioned, raising my eyebrows as I looked at every single one of them with an intimidating look.

"They've come from all over. All the packs," Eve told us, looking out at the wolves.

"Why? To see a baby that isn't even born yet?" I questioned, my eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

Oliver came out from inside the house. "Forget the baby." He pointed at my stomach in disgust. I rolled my eyes and huffed. "These freaks, they come here to see you." He then looked at Hayley. "Both of you," He added. "You know, given the place your parents held in pack hierarchy, maybe they think you're gonna be the long-lost werewolf messiah's or something."

"Great. No pressure or anything." Hayley sipped her tea as I took a drink out of my can of coca-cola.

Klaus entered the restaurant to talk to Cami.

"What do you want?"

"I formed an alliance with someone who may be able to help your uncle," Klaus explained, a small smile on his face as he looked at the girl he thinks would be an amazing best friend.

"Let me guess. Tall, redhead, axe to grind?" She asked but didn't give him time to answer. "Those resurrected witches are the ones who hexed Kieran in the first place. Why would she want to help?"

"Because it's my decree that she does. I believe the words you're looking for are "thank you." By all means, say no if you have an alternative."

"No." Klaus then turned to leave, but Cami changes her mind.

"Wait." He turned to face the blonde waitress. "Do whatever you have to do. Just help him."

The French Quarter coven has convened in the home's greenhouse for a meeting with Genevieve.

"And who put you in charge?"

Monique stood up straight, a smug look on her face as she looked at Genevieve. "I communed with the ancestors. They said it's time for you to sacrifice yourself."

"Of course." She looked around at everyone, nodding her head. "It will be an honor to fulfill my duty to our coven. But it's not quite my time yet."

"The ancestors were very clear. We need for you to die, so our community can have the full power of the Harvest."

"Careful, Monique." Genevieve almost shouted, a scared look in her blue eyes. "Not so long ago, I was one of those ancestors. A spirit forced to watch as little by little, witches surrendered everything to vampires." She walked forward to where she stood directly in front of Monique. "We may no longer live under Marcel's thumb, but I for one don't particularly enjoy answering to Elijah, either. Before I take my leave, I'd like to ensure that you have the power to control your own fate." She paused. "The Mikaelsons' mother Esther was a powerful witch. Her spellbook contains enchantments that we can use to our own ends. I can steal it for our coven and we'll never be held in subjugation again." She looked directly in Monique's eyes. "You'll have your sacrifice. But, I have things to do before I die."

Elijah met with Diego and the rest of the the Vampire Faction about the Feast of Blessings.

"You want us to go to a witch event on bended knee and give them a gift? I'm sorry, but I just remembered. We're busy doing just about anything else that night," Diego sassed Elijah.

"Diego, this isn't a request. Your name is on that treaty. Now, if you have any difficulty whatsoever with your newfound position, I'd be more than willing to remove you."

Diego chuckled with no humor. "I never thought I'd see the day. Vampires bowing down to witches."

Elijah met with Francesca, the Human Faction leader. "I see it as a demonstration of strength, acknowledging a lesser faction," He explained to Francesca.

"But you're not asking, are you?" She laughed. "Oh, I see it's true what they say about you, Elijah." She looked him up and down. "You make even strong-arming seem noble." She paused. "Well, the tourists do eat this stuff up. Can you imagine what they'd think if they suddenly found out it was all real? I take it you want me at the public show and the private party afterward?"

"That is correct," Elijah mused, nodding his head.

"I'd be happy to attend. And in return, you will owe the humans a favor."

Elijah next met with Jackson, Oliver, Hayley and I on behalf of the Crescent wolves. "Your people are uniquely poised to set an example for the rest of the French Quarter. Which is why it's important for the wolves to attend," Elijah explained to us. Hayley looked at him in disbelief as I just stood there with my arms crossed over my ever growing stomach.

"Thanks, but no thanks," Hayley spoke up, an amused smile on her face. I shook my head at her and looked at Elijah with a small smile. I liked him. He at least is brave and noble enough to speak to us about it.

"Let's hear the man out," Oliver spoke up, looking down at the ground.

"The witches are the ones that cursed your pack. And they've been nothing but crap to me and my sister since we first came to town," Hayley told Oliver before turning to Elijah. "No. We're not going."

"It's a new day in the Quarter, Hayley. I agree with Oliver. If we're gonna coexist, we have to play ball. We'll send a representative with a gift," Jackson spoke up and I nodded but something wasn't settling right in my stomach.

Elijah frowned as Hayley, who is annoyed, walk away. I quickly caught up to her, looping our arms together. Elijah then appeared by our side. "That was too easy. Don't trust him. Don't trust any of them," He whispered to us before walking away. I turned around and narrowed my eyes at Oliver and Jackson.

Hayley and I walked outside onto the porch to join Jackson and Oliver. They stopped talking when we cane outside, which made me even more suspicious.

"What is this? High School?" Hayley questioned, eyes narrowed.

"Why don't you take the hint and mind your own business?" Oliver asked, giving me a dirty look which made me pissed.

"Okay, that's it." I grabbed him by the arm, spun him around, twisted his arm behind his back, and pinned him up against the wall, face-first. "This is my pack, this is our pack. That makes it my business," I spat out, crushing his hand. He started yelping but I just tightened my hold on him.

"No need to get all riled up. It's not good for you, Malia," Jackson spoke up, going to touch my shoulder but Hayley grabbed his hand and pushed it away from me.

"I have tried to play nice for way too long but it's just not my thing. " I twisted his arm harder. "The last month of pregnancy is all hormones and mood swings, so unless you want me to snap your arm like a twig, I suggest that you tell me what is going on," I told him through clenched teeth.

"You can go to hell," Oliver spat at me. I yanked his head away from the cabin before slamming his head harder into it.

"Knock it off. There's no reason to keep it from them," Jackson told Oliver with worried eyes.

"I can think of two reasons. Tall and immortal and wears a pocket scarf. And Tall, British and a hybrid," Oliver fought against me, but I forcefully pinned him back down again.

"Stop trying to get away, it's not going to work." I flashed my eyes, getting angrier and angrier by the second.

"Malia, Hayley, you're both one of us. You deserve to know. Now, go on."

I slammed Oliver's head onto the cabin before letting go and crossed my arms.

"Okay, now tell us what the hell you are hiding," I demanded, my voice echoing through the Bayou.

"We made an alliance that's gonna change everything for the wolves," Jackson told us, his eyes glancing back and forth between Hayley and I.

"An alliance with who?"

"Klaus."

I raised an eyebrow at that name.

"Tell us everything," Hayley demanded.

When Genevieve left, Hayley and I walked towards Elijah.

Elijah smiled at us in disbelief. "Strange. I thought you'd both be in the company of your colorful friends."

"Oh. You asked for a representative for the werewolves, so take us or leave us," Hayley told him with a deadpan look. Elijah smiled and held out his arm for us.

Both Hayley and I took an arm. I smiled up at Elijah. "Nice to see you again, Lijah."

"You too, Malia." He smiled down at me. "You look lovely." I looked down at my dress. It was black and it went down to my ankles. I also wore a white cardigan that went with it, a present in my hand for Davina.

"Thank you."

Genevieve clicked a spoon on a wine glass. "Welcome. As is our time-honored tradition, you are all welcome to deliver your offerings. It is our custom that no one should be turned away, no blessing be denied."

Hayley walked up there before me and was about to give Davina a present but the woman at the front of the line pointed towards Monique. I growled and was about to do something but I just waited. I watched as everyone walked up and gave the other girls' gifts but not Davina. Genevieve was smirking and so was the girls.

When I came up last, I went to give Davina the gift when the woman grabbed my arm and pointed at Monique. I shook my head, growled and personally handed the gift to Davina. I turned my head and smirked at the other girls who glared at me. "Sorry not sorry. you're powers are lame," I told them, walking away towards Hayley.

"Ladies and gentlemen," I looked up to see Klaus at the top of the stairs. "–may I have your attention, please. We are gathered here today to pay homage to our beloved witches, but one very special witch has been utterly ignored. That seems a little unfair to me," He spoke, pointing a finger and sent me a smile which I returned. He walked towards Davina and handed her a box.

"No. I don't want your gift," She denied, shakinh her head.

"I understand why you would reject me, given our past," He spoke to her before he turned his attention to everyone. "In truth, many of us here today have been wronged in the conflict which my brother's treaty ended. Your friend Josh was involved in a plot to kill me. It would be well within my right to execute him here and now. But, in the spirit of solidarity, and for your favor, Davina, I hereby pardon him. Josh from this day forward, you have nothing to fear from me," He told Josh, putting his hand on his shoulder to reassure him. "Please." He held out the box to Davina again and she reluctantly took it. Klaus smirked at Genevieve and smiled at me.

I walked off towards Klaus, a huge smile on my face. "That was really kind of you." He smiled at me and then offered his hand which I took.

"I hear you made quite an impression with the wolves. My arrangement with them was supposed to be a secret, and yet you forced it out of them. It's very bold. As was your decision to represent them here today, on your own. I trust you'll do nothing to harm our cause."

I smirked as I looked up at him. "Are you really gonna go behind Elijah's back?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow in question.

"Come on! What difference does it make to you as long as your people benefit?"

"If I find out that you are playing some game, trying to manipulate us for one of your schemes--" I spoke as I knew that Hayley would want me to do this.

"--You know, you've come a long way, little red. I knew you were tough, I knew you were cunning, but I never knew you were a queen." I smirked up at him, a mischief glint in my eyes. He smiled before he spun me around and then walked off.

Everyone went silent as a band of guys in white came down the stairs with drums and was singing. Well, if you want to call that singing.

"Happy Fête des Bénédictions. We have a message for all of you from Marcel Gerard." The lead drummer spoke up.

I frowned as I looked at them.

Everyone started whispering to each other. All of the drummers take out straight razors and sliced their wrists open, bleeding all over the floor. The vampires in the room started to get antsy and vamp-out at the smell of blood. I looked over at Hayley to see her struggling to stay human.

"Control yourselves. This is a vulgar trick," Elijah spoke and them started to shout. "We do not violate our agreement." The lights suddenly go out, and the vampires start feeding on the drummers, as well as other humans at the party.

I screamed as I felt something bite my neck and then I was pushed away. I fell, twisting my ankle.

When the lights came on, the first thing I saw was Klaus. "Klaus," I whimpered, slowly feeling the bite on my neck and my twisted ankle healing. He rushed forward and helped me up, an angry and concerned look on his face.

"Love, are you alright?" I nodded my head, completely healed now. I turned my head and looked at Hayley who had blood dripping down her chin. I rushed towards her, well, as fast as I could while I was pregnant.

"Are you okay, Hays?" I asked as I used the nickname I had given her. She slowly nodded her head, tears coming to her face as she wiped her mouth.

'There will be no peace.' Was written on the wall.

I turned my head to see Klaus leaving which made me frown. Why was he leaving?

The coven has gathered to discuss Genevieve's fate.

"You failed us."

"I told you. It will take time."

"Do you think the ancestors care about your excuses? The vampires attacked us. We can't retaliate until we possess our full strength. Your sacrifice is the final step." She held out a Harvest knife.

Monique started to channel the ancestors. "Nous concedumus sa vie a Genevieve. Si elle hecatage a filia de Mikaelson." Genevieve started coughing and gasping.

"What are they saying?" Genevieve asked, scared of the answer.

"They told me to let you live. But in exchange, they want another offering. One of their choosing."

"Tell me. Whatever it is they want, I will make sure they get it. I swear it." Genevieve begged with wide eyes.

"It's the child." Monique paused for a dramatic affect. "They want us to kill Klaus' child."
