CHAPTER EIGHT

"Strength doesn't come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't."

Klaus bit into a woman's wrist as Rebekah and I sat opposite to him, I was drinking a cup of coffee. Between us is a table full of food. "Have you spoken to our good friend Marcel today?" Klaus asked casually as I stared between the two of them.

"No, should I have?" Rebekah asked her brother.

"He's been misteriously silent - avoiding me, some might say. I thought perhaps he may have whispered reasons into your ear. Along with all of those sweet nothings," Klaus told his sister with a smirk.

"You and Marcel?" I asked Rebekah with a smirk. She just playfully glared at me.

"If I see him I'll be sure to ask if he's still sore at you." She ignored my question, but replied back to Klaus.

"Let me give a voice to that look in your eyes. My saintly noble brother lies writhing in agony in the bayou, victim of my bastard-brother's-bite, when just one or two drops of his blood would ease his pain," Klaus tried impersonating Rebekah, taking a seat in his chair.

"On the contrary, Nik, I am simply enjoying my breaky waiting for Elijah's healthy return," She stated with a tight smile.

"Oh, come on," Klaus said as he leaned forward in his seat. "Rebekah, you've been giving me the devil's eye all morning. Out with it!" He told his sister, pointing a finger at her.

"Perhaps I'm concerned that if I voice my opinion about what you did to Elijah, I will end up on the wrong side of your toxic hybrid teeth." She told her brother. He slapped his hand on the table and pointed at her with his eyebrows raised.

"Poppycock!" He said which made me confused on what that meant. "I would never bite you. Elijah made some very offensive accusations about my intentions towards my child," He then glanced at me. "He deserves a day or two of discomfort." He slightly raised his hand to get his point across. "Besides, you know my preferred method of punishment for your indiscretions is the dagger." Rebekah smirks as she gets up from the chair. She leaned across the table so she was in his face.

I leaned back and watched them like it was a tv show.

"There is something fundamentally wrong with you." She left the room, leaving Klaus and I alone at the table. I sighed and placed my hand on his shoulder.

"It's all going to be okay, Klaus," I told him, getting up from my seat to make my way into my bedroom.

Klaus disappeared somewhere so I was all alone in the mansion.

I sighed as I made my into the kitchen. I opened up the freezer and pulled out an ice cream carton. I grabbed a spoon and got a spoon full of ice cream. As I was about to put it in my mouth, someone knocked on the door.

"If it's you Josh, I will strangle you to death," I said as I opened up the door. But who was behind the door was what surprised me.

"Hello, Malia."

"Derek?"

"Aren't you going to invite me in?" He asked me with a smirk. I nodded and stepped aside as he walked in.

"How did you find me?" I asked him, closing the door.

"I asked a few people. But what I wanna know is why you're here," He told me as I lead him into the kitchen to where my ice cream was.

"My sister needed to find her family," I stated, taking a bite out of my chocolate ice cream.

"Sister? You have a sister? Since when did you have a sister?" He asked me with a confused look on his face.

"Since forever?" I stated but it sounded more like a question. "I met her a year ago. She is actually my half sister, but whatever," I told him with a sigh, taking another bite out of my ice cream. My left hand was protectively on my stomach and I guess that Derek noticed because his eyes kept flickering from my stomach to my ice cream.

"What is with you? You once told me that you didn't like chocolate ice cream and here you are, eating it. You also have a hand over your stomach like you–" He started but stopped talking, his eyes going wide. He must've started focusing with his hearing. "You're pregnant?" He asked me, a growl escaping his lips. "Who did this to you?"

"You make it sound like it's a bad thing, Der," I said with raised eyebrows. "Also, his name is Klaus, and before you insult his name, you might not want to. He will kill you," I informed him, a small smile coming to my face, thinking about Klaus.

"Are you in love with him?" He asked me.

"I have only ever loved one person and look what happened, I wasn't loved back," I spat, placing down the ice cream carton, and crossed my arms.

"What did Stiles do to you?" He growled. My eyes widened in surprise.

"Why are you acting like you're my brother or father?" I asked him, finishing up the ice cream. "You know what? Never mind," I told him, throwing the ice cream carton away. "Ugh! I need to get Rebekah to get me more ice cream," I complained.

"Who's Rebekah?" Derek asked me, standing up.

"Klaus' sister," I simply stated. "Why are you here?"

"I heard that you were here and I wanted to check up on my cousin." He told me, saying 'cousin' in a weird way. "I also decided to take up home here just so I could protect you. It's a good thing, too, since you're going to be having a kid.

"Well, when the others get back, I will have to tell them to not kill you," I told him like it was nothing.

At night time, It felt like something was off, like something bad was going to happen. I let my body carry me to the front door of the mansion.

"What are you doing?" Derek asked me, grabbing my hand.

"Something feels...off," I told him as I brushed passed him and made my way to Marcel's yard. I knew that Derek was following me but I chose to ignore him. When we got to where my body was telling me to go, I saw Klaus, Marcel and Rebekah. The thing is, Rebekah was by Marcel's side.

"Look at you. Finally in possesion of the one thing that can take you down. How does it feel?" I heard Klaus ask Rebekah who looked ready to kill. I had a feeling to where this was going.

"Great," Rebekah commented. Marcel them whistled, some vampire showed up, surrounding Klaus.

"So this is it? The evil bastard Klaus has gone too far. Must be punished. And by his own sibling, nonetheless. How positively biblical. And you, Marcel, is this," he points at the vampires, "your idea of a hit? I taught you better than this poultry excuse for a takedown. Do you think you can subdue me - with this!?" Klaus was angry now.

"No. But I think I can with this," Marcel stated, he whistled again. More vampires appear. I stepped forward and growled at Marcel.

"What the hell is going on!?" I yelled, mostly looking at Rebekah. "Are you seriously trying to kill your own brother?" I asked her, I was trying to keep in human form.

"Malia, get out of here," Klaus told me, a look of concern, fear and anger on his face. At that time, Derek came out of nowhere and grabbed my arm, pulling me back. "Hey!" Klaus yelled, a look of rage on his face. It was directed to Derek.

"Derek, let me go!" I growled but he didn't let me go. He pulled me back out of harms way but we didn't leave. We just watched the whole thing play out.

"Let's end this charade, shall we?" Klaus asked as he looked at Marcel. "Vampires of New Orleans! Do recall that I am an Original. A hybrid. I cannot be killed." He paused for a dramatic flare. "Eternity is an awfully long time. How long, do you think, Marcel will stay in power? What if one of you lot were to release me, knowing I will be eternally in your debt?" He looked around at the vampires. "Oh, I would pity those of you who dared to cross me. I can assure you, your ends would be spectacular. To borrow a trick from an old friend." He streched out a hand with a coin in it. "Whoever picks up... this coin... gets to live." He dropped the coin. "Now which of you magnificent bastards wants to join me?" He asked with a smirk, looking towards Rebekah and Marcel.

"Anyone wants that coin, pledge allegiance to Klaus. Take it now. Go ahead," Marcel said as he looked at his vampires. "The choice is yours." No one moved, except Klaus who was slightly astonished that no one picked up the coin. Marcel looked at him, proud of the loyalty his minions show.

"Take him," Marcel demanded.

Some vampires try to take down Klaus, but he killed them easily. He snapped one of their spines as if it was plastic. Klaus stretched out both hands with a smirk on his face. Some vampires try to chain him. at this point I was struggling against Derek.

But the thing is, Klaus was still stronger than all his attackers. He snapped necks, bent legs, but they finally managed to take him down . They literally ganged up on him, they were kicking his sides and punching his face. They chained him up on the wall, his head hanging low.

When he rose his head, his golden hybrid eyes could be seen. He was growling deeply which was hot.

I looked over at Rebekah who was paralyzed by disbelief. She dropped the dagger in fear and started backing up. Klaus stared at Rebekah and Marcel in anger. Klaus rose again and continued killing vampires.

He hit, kicked, punched and bit into vampires. By this point, I was so utterly angry that I head-butted Derek and pushed him off of me. I joined Klaus in killing the vampires. There was a vampire coming up from behind Klaus so I ran, grabbed the vampires head, as I was flipping over him, I snapped his neck. Klaus turned around and smirked at me. A vampire came up from behind me and tried strangling me, but me being me, I bit them which made them fall to the ground, clutching their hand.

"Marcel!" I heard Klaus' voice echo. "Come and finish this!" He yelled again, killing yet another vampire. Marcel was about to run to Klaus, but Rebekah held him back.

"No! Take the coin!" I could hear her say to him as a vampire came and snarled at me. Before the vampire could do anything, she was thrown off of me by none other than Derek. I smiled at him, my eyes flashing blue which made a few vampires step back in fear. Derek and I got in a fighting position.

"Enough!" I heard Marcel yell. Everybody stopped what they were doing. It went utterly silent as if we weren't just fighting. Marcel slowly walked towards the coin and picked it up.

"Well, well, well. The great Marcel, self-proclaimed king of New Orleans, bowing before me," Klaus stated, looking down at Marcel. I smirked in satisfaction. Even at his worst, I still couldn't hate him.

"There," Marcel said in sadness, throwing the coin at Klaus' feet. "I hereby pledge my allegiance to you. You have the keys to my kingdom. It's yours." Marcel looked about in tears and so did Rebekah. I knew that she was going to have to pay what she did to Klaus, but I hope it won't be bad because I considered her a friend.

Klaus smiled in satisfaction.

"So that was Klaus?" Derek asked me when we arrived back at the mansion.

"Yes," I smiled.

"I thought I had some serious anger and family issues, but he tops it," He told me with a smirk.

"Yeah, I know," I stated. Right after that, he left to go to his apartment. I took a quick shower and went to bed with a smile on my face.

"Hayley, you're back!" I exclaimed and hugged her. She hugged me back with a smile on her face. "I'm sorry for leaving you and Elijah in the Bayou, you guys just don't understand," I tried explaining but she shook her head.

"It's fine," She told me and I nodded. "Plus, it helped Elijah and I bond more," she said, smiling.

"Elijah's home, there's only one dagger. Which one of us will you be punishing today?" Rebekah asked as she walked into the room that Klaus was in, looking at the dagger that was in his hands.

"I contemplated a game of eenie-meenie-miney-moe," He stated and then vamp sped to her, putting her in a head lock type thing. "You betrayed me. My own sister!" He exclaimed in disbelief and anger.

"Niklaus, don't you dare!" Elijah yelled at his brother as he made it into the room.

"Perhaps it should be you, brother!" Klaus yelled as he turned around, pointing the dagger at Elijah. "Stealing my child away with every fawning moment of tenderness you show to Malia!" He yelled in sadness and anger.

"This has nothing to do with Malia," Elijah told his brother.

Klaus pointed with the dagger at Elijah. "It has everything to do with her!" He yelled. "She's adored you since she arrived. And now my child, my blood will grow up to call you father!" His voice raising with every word, he was holding back tears that threatened to fall.

"Is that what this is? You are once again worried that you will be left behind. Has history taught you nothing? We don't abandon you, Nik, you drive us away!" Rebekah yelled at her brother, also holding back tears.

"Is that so?" Klaus rhetorically asked. "What have I done lately, other than cooperate?" He asked no one in particular. "I bow down to you, brother," A tear than fell from his eye. "to make up for daggering you. For the greater good of our plan to reclaim our home," He explained to his brother them turned to Rebekah. "Look the other way, sister. While you repeat the same cycle with Marcel, falling again for a man you shouldn't be with, while he controls the empire that we built! That he took! Now, I make no excuses for past sins. But in the one moment when you two could have chosen to stand by me - to believe in me - to believe my intentions for my own child were pure. You chose to stand against me, to side with my enemies. I wanted our home back. Now I have it. So I'm going to live there. And the two of you... you can stay here together..." Another tear fell from his eyes. "and rot." He handed the dagger to Elijah, who took it. Klaus then left to go outside.

"You're coming with me, little red. You can come too little wolf," Klaus announced to us as he passed us as we sat on the front porch steps.

"Why would I go anywhere with you?" Hayley asked him as I already started to stand up.

"Because, Hayley, that child your sister carries is the only thing on this earth that matters to me. Now you can fight me on this, but you will lose," He told her which made me smile. He opened the car door. "As will anyone else who tries to stop you getting in this car," He added and looked at me as Hayley got in the back seat.

"I heard what you said in there Klaus," I told him, looking at him with sad eyes. "No matter what, I will be by your side." I then got in the car, brushing my fingers on his hand on purpose. He closed the door as he was trying to hide the smile that was on his face.
