~ Thoughts - Brutal Test ~

Yuki's View

I walked over to my teammates, these people, the people I would be spending most of my time with now, we're going to now be considered my family. As a Genin team, the more missions and time you spend together, the closer you get to one another. It may not seem like the dream of every Shinobi out there, me being one, but the relationship a team gives you is worth everything. They're your saviors on the field during a mission, they're your friends when it comes to solving problems. And when it comes to anything other than that, such as a life threatening mission where only one person can live... They're your worst nightmare; your enemy. Kiba's words about getting closer rung throughout my head again.

"But now that we've become teammates, we can fix that. We have time, we'll know each other in no time."

I clicked my tongue and shook my head as I walked closer to them. 'I'm sorry, I really am Kiba, but we're never going to get closer than this. You're only gong to get held down by me if you do. Friends are nothing, they're...they're just nuisances.' That's what I read in Shinobi handbooks, and from what I've heard higher ranked Shinobi tell me, I have to follow the rules listed in the books no matter what. Supposedly, it'd be the best for me if I did so. I trust them seeing they have more years then me as a Shinobi, and I'm guessing they've had problems in which they had to leave their teammates behind for the sake of the mission.

"O-Ohayo, Yu-Yuki-chan..." Hinata muttered out to me.

I smiled at her and gave her a smile wave, "Hi, Hinata." I said.

She blushed and twiddled around with her fingers like she normally did when she got really shy. I smiled at this. It lifted my mood a bit being around a kind girl like her. She was so gentle and trustworthy unlike the others girls I knew in the academy.

Kiba made his way over to me and threw his arm over my shoulder, "Hey cutie." He mused, Akamaru yapping from his shoulder.

I rolled my eyes at his attempt to flirt with me like usual, "Hey, Kiba, Akamaru!" I exclaimed ecstatically, forcing a smile on my face.

Kiba dropped his arm from my shoulder and frowned deeply. I tensed up at the sudden lack of affection from him, it wasn't normal. Something was up, I know it...

"Sooo, Yuki. Are you curious on what Kurenai-sensei wanted us to come here for?" He asked me and the others from the way he was looking at them.

"Of course I am. Why else did I come over here in such a rush? I could have just walked my way over here slowly like Shika does." I stated with a shrug of my shoulders.

"...Hm, how typical of the Nara's..." Shino muttered out.

I sweat dropped and laughed nervously, "Um, thanks." I said.

"K-Kiba-kun, did Kurenai-sensei t-tell you s-something w-we don't know?" She asked him shyly.

He nodded, "Yeah, I was about to get to that! Thanks for reminding, Hinata!" He told her, turning towards all of us. "Anyways, Kurenai-sensei told me that we had some sort of test today. I'm guessing it has to do with seeing our strengths and stuff."

We all nodded, interested in the information coming out of his mouth. I, on the other hand, was sweating bullets at this. 'Kurenai-sensei was going to test out strengths in this test?' I thought, horrified. 'I have none... I'm t-too weak!'

What in the world was I going to show her and impress her with if I had absolutely no great skills up my sleeve? I did have the justus that came with my clan, but other than that there was nothing to show. I was useless, just like those girls had chanted at me in the academy.

They were right about me.

I smiled and shoved Kiba to the side, doing something that would be considered the normal me. "Well then, I guess we're going to have to show Kiba that we can beat him at this test! Right, Shino? Hinata?" I mused as I eyed Kiba.

"B-but..." Hinata trailed off.

Shino just stayed silent like her normally does. I sweat dropped once more, but nonetheless fist pumped the air.

"That's the spirit." I laughed with such force it sounded like I was dying.

Kiba burst into laughter, "Woah, who knew you had such a beautiful laugh!" He exclaimed out sarcastically.

I glared at him, crossing my arms in defiance. "Shut up, Kiba." I spat, looking at Akamaru. "Akamaru, help me boy!"

Akamaru obeyed me and yapped at Kiba, clawing slightly at his owners face. Kiba scowled in annoyance and tried to brush his pup of his shoulder.

"Akamaru!" He whined.

I giggled, "There you go, Akamaru! Who's a good boy?" I cooed as he jumped into my arms. I rubbed his belly while I held him securely. I giggled, "Who's a good pup? Akamaru is!"

Kiba stuck out his lower lip and frunted with his arms crossed as I pet his adorable pup. "He isn't that great." Kiba mused.

Rolling my eyes, I placed Akamaru down and grabbed my hair. "He sure is." I shot back, putting my hair in a ponytail.

After that, I pretty much ignored the rest of my teammates for the rest of the time. I sat down cross legged beside a tree and sighed heavily. 'Well, this test sure is going to be fun.' I thought sarcastically.

Fun to watch you fail, Yuki.

~*~

Kurenai-sensei suddenly appeared in front of us in a cloud of smoke. We all coughed and waved our hands in front of our faces besides Shino, seeing he had a part of his hood covering his mouth. This was most likely going to be the only moment where I would be jealous of that hood-like thing he had.

She smiled at us brightly, "Hello, it seems like you're all doing well." She said, glancing at each of us.

I smiled grimly, "Yeah, it sure does, doesn't it?" I mused.

Kiba and Kurenai-sensei eyed me while Hinata fiddled with her fingers. The tension between Kiba and I, then Kurenai-sensei and I was thick. From Hinata's quicker fiddling with her fingers, I'm guessing she noticed that as well.

"Kurenai-sensei, K-Kiba-kun said you have a t-test for u-us t-today..." She stated, trying to change the subject.

I inwardly hoped that her small effort to help me out would work. It did. Kurenai-sensei nodded, "Of course, it seems like that slipped my mind." She said.

Kiba grinned, "Then tell us, tell us what this test is, sensei!" He shouted, his voice filled with excitement.

Kurenai-sensei nodded, her expression getting really serious and tense. "This isn't a game, Kiba." She said.

"Well, yeah, it's a test." He said in a obvious tone.

I shook my head at his naive self. I worry about him sometimes, no- All the time. He really doesn't understand, does he? If only he could see how serious she was being towards us. Kiba's naive side and, well, stubborn side just didn't allow him to notice things very well.

"Just listen to what she has to say, Kiba." I said rather rudely. I wasn't in such a...bright mood today.

He ignored me and continued to bicker about how he wanted to know about the test. I stared at them and listened to their conversation, their one sided conversation  that is. Then, Kurenai-sensei spoke up.

"You all have 10 seconds to find a place near or in this clearing to stay hidden. You will be facing me in a hand to hand combat battle, of course, weapons such as shurikens and kunais are allowed. Your time starts now." She explained.

"10..."

My eyes widened, 'Oh crap!'

"9..."

I ran into the trees like nothing.

"8..."

I bit my lip in fear as I scanned the area I happened to run into.

"7..."

I spotted a tall tree that would be able to keep my presence out of Kurenai-sensei's view. 'There we go!'

"6..."

Making my way over to that tree, I quickly climbed my way up. I then sat on the branch and awaited for the time to run out. I was in an okay spot for now.

"5..."

"4..."

"3..."

I blinked, realization hitting me in the face like a brick. 'What about the others?' I thought horrified I left them alone.

"2..."

'I forgot all about them!'

"1..."

I cursed under my breath. It was too late for me to do anything now.

"Begin."

The test has already begun.
