Chapter 6. Meeting
Both twins showed up at my door the next day and walked me towards the mess hall. I still had struggled finding my way in this maze but they gladly helped me find my way. We settled and Sideswipe started talking instantly. "Like I told you... I called with the JPMorgan chase bank. I went there the day before to settle a few things but here's the point. Things turn out to be a little bit more complicated. Where you live now with Edward and Jade is your home but you have been reported missing so many times. You need to have a home where they can sent your letters to."
I gave a small nod. "Besides... they gave me this. The paper says you need to sign it but also your caretakers, so Edward or Jade," Sunstreaker said, finishing his brothers story. Sideswipe handed me the papers. "Okay, so if I sign it and they sign it, it's okay?" I asked.
"Well, to open an account you need to pay approximately $100, but we will pay that for you," Sideswipe said. "No, you don't have to pay that for me," I stated. "Well, you don't have money yet to open a bank account with and even if you had enough, it would be your first salary," Sunstreaker stated. I sucked in a breath. "There's something else..."
I looked up. "You need pay tax now you have 'legal' work. "10% to 35% of your salary is tax," Sideswipe added. "So if we make a quick calculation, earn 268 in a month and take 35% of it—"
"Then I only have $174, 72 to spend," I filled in. Sunstreaker gave a small nod. "Yeah, but that's with 35%," Sideswipe stated. "It doesn't matter, I will figure something out and beside. That's quite a lot for me. I don't need to buy a house or a car. Just food for now," I stated. "It's your call. Like I said, I am not going to tell you what to do but the job you have now... they're taking advantage of you," Sideswipe said as he folded his arms again. "Just make sure you sign this and your foster parents then we can do the rest, okay?" I gave a small nod. "Thanks, boys. I appreciate it."
I headed home shortly after to see if Jade and Edward were home. They were but so were Sohpie, Chase and Christy. "Amethyst..." Edward passed me. "Can you sign this?" I showed him the piece of paper. "What's it for? I am not going to waste more money on you," he sulked. "No, no... please. I want to open a bank account but you're my foster father so you need to sign it too," I explained. Edward came to a halt and turned towards me, snitching the piece of paper out of my hands.
"What's there to put on?" He mocked. "I have a job. I want to save money?" I mumbled. He hummed and turned around again. "I will read it when I have time, now move out of the way." He shove me aside and passed me with a glass of water. "Please, you don't need to read it. Just sign it, that's all I ask—" he cut me off and sat down with the rest of the family. I left them and headed back to my room. I waited all day for them to look at it but they didn't. So that evening, I decided to try again. "Have you signed it?"
I got such a hard punch across my face that I hit the fridge and collapsed on the ground. Apparently, I had my head against something. Blood seeped out of a cut and drenched my hair. "I said I will look at it when I have time!" Edward snarled. I groaned and hoisted myself up. I snorted and turned around, leaving the house and caught up with Jack. He was sitting in the park and looked rather worried as I sat down beside him. "You're okay?" He asked. "Does it look like I am okay?"
He shook his head. "I found a job but things aren't going as I had hoped for. My boss is a jerk and is using me but if it wasn't for the money, I wouldn't have taken the job. I want to open an bank account but my foster parents need to sign too. I know I am 18 but still they need to sign this stupid document and when I asked, Edward him so hard that I have this wound on my head..." I stopped at looked at Jack beside me. "I try to stay positive but right now I just want to scream in frustration. Nothing is going as I want it to go. Despite all my effort and positive spirit, it just can't succeed in getting a better life."
A silence fell between us. "I am scared for the future, what will become of me." Jack flashed me a weak smile. "Maybe you should try something different then. I mean... there are other ways to make money," he trailed off. I wiped a lost tear off my face. "Like what... prostitution?" I mocked. "For example." I looked at him again. "Remember that guy I told you about? Mark?" He asked. "He's your dealer?" I asked. Jack nodded, "he's in that business and it's golden business."
I shook my head. "There must be other ways," I murmured. "You tried and even with your best effort, you haven't succeeded yet," Jack said. I sighed and looked down at my lap. "What if Edward throws you back on the street? You want to live from 0,84 dollar per hour?" He mocked. I shrugged and pushed my hands the pocket of my old and torn hoody. "Think about it... you can make so much more money. You don't like drugs so I won't try to get you into that but, there are other ways to get money. After all, we are rats, parasites and no one looks at us."
I gave a small nod and got up. "I will think about," o muttered and got up, leaving Jack sitting there.
