Chapter 31. Spying
Looking back, I realized Optimus had tried to repair the broken friendship between me and Sideswipe but I don't think it can be repaired. Sideswipe and I differ in opinion and it's influencing our friendship. Sophie on the other hand started to play a bigger role in their life. She's perfect in their eyes. She's going to Oxford, she has great plans and most importantly, she doesn't come off the streets. I am too simple for them while they're in the military as well. I watched them. Sophie loved this game and she made sure to show me she was their favorite and I wasn't. 'Hey...' Benjamin smiled as she stood next to me. 'Hey...' I muttered. He followed my gaze for a moment. 'You say you got over it but, deep down... we both know that you are disappointed and sad,' he said. I sighed and shrugged my shoulders, 'I don't want to think too much about them and that they saved me. I had always hoped they would,' I mumbled. Benj sighed and leaned against the railing. 'They're scared I'll get myself killed,' I added. 'Well, at least they are concerned, I can't really say that about Ironhide,' he said and smirked. I snorted and nudged his side. 'I am sure they will come around when we have had our first real mission,' he stated. 'You think?' He nodded and turned towards me. 'Yeah, don't worry so much. Every other mech believes in you and they don't... so what?' he asked. 'Anyway, the original reason I am here... would you like to go out for dinner with me?' he asked. His question surprised me, 'for dinner?' he hummed. 'Sounds good.'
'Tonight?' he asked. I nodded, 'good, I already hoped you would say yes,' he said and kissed my cheek. A blush spread over my face while he walked off. I suddenly wasn't so interested anymore in the twins and walked off. I picked a nice low cut green halter dress, black high heels and my hair in a loose braid. In my opinion the dress was a little short, but Sideswipe had said at the time that it isn't and looks good on me. I waited for him in the main hangar. 'You look really good.' Benj offered me his hand which I took. He kissed the back of my hand. 'Shall we?' I nodded and followed him towards the gate where his car was parked. 'You washed your car?' I asked. 'Uhm... no,' he said, looking at the car with some hesitation. 'What?' I asked. 'Nothing... It's just... I thought I parked my car somewhere else,' he said but shrugged it off and opened his door for me. He drove off. 'Have you talked to Lennox today?' he asked. 'No, not yet.' Benj hummed, 'We have our first mission next week. Exciting, huh?' I nodded and sucked in a breath. 'It's strange Lennox hasn't talked to me yet,' I muttered. 'Maybe he's just busy, ' he said. 'Yeah, two certain mechs have convinced Lennox to let me stay at the base,' I groused. 'Perhaps they didn't... maybe Lennox is just busy and he'll talk to you tomorrow,' he said. 'I go anyway, even if they tell me not to. I am absolutely not gonna listen to them. Isn't it strange? Like... you should expect from two abused mechs that are thrown onto the streets like trash, can't understand how I feel while I have been through the exact same thing.'
Benj shrugged, 'you don't know the big lines of their story. Only the top of the iceberg. I am not supporting them because I think they are jerks but they do have more experience then we have and we need them. If you make it difficult for yourself, then you are going to make mistakes for sure in battle,' he said. I sighed and gave a small nod. I quietly agreed with him about his statement, but nevertheless, I was annoyed with them. 'You think they are jerks?' I asked, remembering what he said. 'Oh, yeah, definitely,' he scoffed. 'I think... of the two I like Sideswipe the most. He's at least reasonable but Sunstreaker... he's kinda scary and it surprises me how well Sideswipe can cope with him because damn... he has some serious anger issues.' I snorted. 'Strangely enough... he does have a soft side.' Benj looked at me like I was crazy. 'I am serious about it...' I said. He snorted, 'he's a monster...' he said I heard the car rumble. 'Let's stop talking about them, alright?' He gave a small nod and watched me grab my phone. 'What are you gonna do?' he asked with a frown. 'A quick call to Ironhide,' I said, dialing his number. 'Why?' he asked. 'To ask where the twins are,' I said. 'I thought you wanted to stop talking about them,' he said. I sighed and hummed. 'Amethyst,' he greeted stiffly. 'Hi, are the twins at the base?' I asked. 'Sunstreaker is in his usual shady corner and Sideswipe...' there fell a silence. 'I don't see his alt-mode... that's odd, usually he's always with his twin,' he said. 'Ah, thank you,' I said and disconnected the call.
'And?' he asked. I waved my hand to brush it off. Benj parked and cut the engine of the car. We hopped out and I slammed the door shut with so much force it made Benj jump and the car jolt and whimper. 'Go home, Sideswipe!' I snapped and kicked against the tire. 'Of course,' Benj snarled and crossed his arms. 'What is wrong with you!' Benjamin shouted. Sideswipe's holoform appeared and looked at me with a guilty look upon his face. 'Piss off! We don't want you here,' I sneered. His eyes were saddened. 'Leave us alone,' Benjamin added. 'How are you going to get back?' he asked. 'We rather walk, now go or I will call Prowl,' I snapped. 'Yeah! Because you seem so close to him lately,' he snapped. I shrugged, 'we are close... let me make something clear, Sideswipe. If I figured out you are messing up my mission, make me stay at the base for whatever reason... I will not only beat the hell out of you but also make sure you end up in the brig for at least a month, even if it means I have to set you up. We aren't friends, you made sure of that. Besides... you suck at spying,' I snapped and pushed him out of the way. 'I don't like this!' he argued back. 'Yeah, well... it's my choice and if I want to go on a mission–' he cut me off. 'I am not talking about that.' I turned to look at him. 'I am talking about what you are going to do tonight,' he said, pointing at the restaurant. 'You have Sophie... you seem pretty close with him,' I snapped.
Benj wrapped his arm around me. Leave my girlfriend alone, Sideswipe. She's not interested,' he snarled. 'G-girlfriend?' he asked. I ignored him. 'What do you mean girlfriend? What did I miss?!' he shouted after us. 'Amethyst!' Sideswipe sprinted after me. 'I am sorry, okay? I just wanted to make sure you're okay,' he said. 'Just go back to base and leave us alone... I don't want to talk to you nor see you,' I said and waved him off. Thyst, please... I-' he stopped as Benj and I started walking towards the restaurant. 'Idiot,' I scowled. Benj hadn't said much but didn't seem to like Sideswipe's action either. 'Girlfriend?' I asked. 'Do you mind if I call you that?' he asked. I shrugged, 'No, it's okay....' He kissed the side of my head. 'Maybe we should tell Optimus about it...' he added. I glanced at him, 'he can't just change his alt-mode and spy on us,' he said. I snorted, 'That's Sideswipe, Benj, he's... yeah, there's only one of him,' I sighed. 'I am going to tell Prowl regardless,' he sulked. He's not happy about it and how can I blame him. 'What did he do to my car anyway?' he asked. 'Probably in the same spot as where you left him this morning,' I replied while we sat down. He sighed and shook his head. 'That mech is nuts.' I snorted and leaned back, looking at the empty parking spot.
