Chapter 22. Training
I sat in the gym, staring at the wall in front of me. Now I had calmed myself down, I was going to proof them wrong. No matter what it takes, I will show them they are all wrong. I brushed a lost tear off my face and walked up to rack to push myself up. With each pull I did, my ribs were screaming in agony. I don't care if it hurt or not, I just wanted to me physically stronger. It was three AM when I stopped and headed back to my room, showering.
The next morning, my body was painful to say at least. I was just dressed up as the twins walked in. "Sweetspark, sit down," Sunstreaker ordered. I obeyed and sat down. He placed my notebook on my desk and crouched down in front of me. "You know... you can't have everything in life. Sideswipe isn't an artist like I am, even if he wants to be one and I suck at gaming. We all have things we suck at. It's not a bad thing. That you aren't made for combat doesn't mean you're useless," he said. "You don't have faith in me either?"
Sunstreaker grasped my hands. "I do have faith in you but your specialty isn't fighting, sweet spark," he said. "How did you feel when you were a weak little sparkling wandering over the streets, being rejected by everyone and told you can't do anything?" I asked. "It's not the same, I mean... in some way it is, but you are good at other things," Sideswipe said. I looked at him, "I thought you two were supposed to support me... you know what you two suck at? Being my guardians!" I snarled before I turned around and slammed the door shut behind me.
I avoided the brothers for days and just tried to follow a training program I had made for myself. I didn't want to break myself in the first week so I decided to take it easy, also due to my broken ribs. I asked some soldiers about their diet so I know what I should eat to get strength and make sure I don't pass out. I was doing everything I could to gain weight and strength. I saw some slow result over the course of a couple of weeks. I gained some weight but I was working out as well so I didn't gain as much as I wanted to gain.
Tiredly, I sank down on the bench, drained from all the workouts. "Do you have a rest day?" I jumped on my feet. Optimus slowly approached, "a rest day?" I asked. "You can't do work outs seven days a week... your body needs at least one rest day to recover," he stated. "N-no... I don't have a rest day," I replied. He gestured to me to sit down and sat beside me. "Talk to me." I glanced at him. "They think I can't do it... that I will always be that weak fragile street rat. I won't even pass a medical exam and knowledge... what do I actually reach with that? I am rejected for thirty job interviews... thirty-one," I corrected and looked at my lap.
"I want to be like the twins... but even they told me I am not made for combat. Do you believe that? Do you think this all is useless?" I asked. "I admire your spirit, Amethyst. You probably don't want to hear it... but they are only worried you get yourself killed in battle," he said. I shrugged, "aren't you risking your life too?" I asked. "There's a little difference between you and me," he said. "Ratchet told me a story... before you became a Prime. Orion was your name, wasn't It" I asked. Optimus started to smile and crossed his arms, leaning against the wall. "Yeah, I was nothing," he said. "You are now. I know you are a mech and in a much better state then I am... but why can't I at least try one more time?" I asked.
"You are telling me knowledge isn't useful in battle but that's not true. You have more value then you think. You have the right to try and I think you should. Ironhide told me how good you are at shooting and good you can work in a team. You have that talent all you need to do is make sure your body will gain weight and gets stronger. Once you did... everything will be alright," Optimus stated. A smile formed on my lips, "do you really think that?" I asked. Optimus nodded and smiled at me again. "Don't doubt yourself so much," he mumbled and nudged my side softly.
"Get some rest, you need it," he said. I nodded and got up with him. I hesitated for a moment but hugged him. Optimus softly rubbed my head and his other hand was wrapped around my shoulders. "You are not a weak fragile street rat," he mumbled. A smile formed on my lips. "Thank you... needed that." Optimus brushed some strands from my face and gave a small nod. "Now, go to your room, get a shower and go to bed."
That's what I did. The next morning, I decided to stay in bed a little longer. I was drained. The twins walked in two hours later. "Hi..." Sideswipe sat on the edge and grasped my hand. I looked at him. "What do you want?" I asked bluntly. "We didn't mean to hurt your feelings," he said. "You did... I don't need you or Sunstreaker. I didn't ask for your opinion either. Fine, if you want to believe I can't do it then fine. Then I will ask another mech to help me... Optimus is perfectly willing to do it."
"You think?" Sunstreake asked, obviously angered by this point. I sat up, "why don't you ask him?" I asked. "It's not a good idea if you go out there and risk your life for nothing. The fact is... you are skinny. It's all bone with some skin over it. If you want to experience what it feels like... I will dress you up in armor humans wear during missions and let ran twenty rounds around the base. If you are still on your legs... we will discuss wether what we are going to do or not. You are too weak. Get it in your mind, you will never be like us!" Sunstreaker sneered.
"Get it out of your damn mind. You are stupid to think you can survive out there, all on your own. We are not being rude, we are only telling you facts. Be happy we don't send you back to your foster parents or back on the street. Ungrateful piece of shit!" he sneered. "Enough, Sunstreaker!" Sideswipe snapped and shot his brother a glare. "We don't want you to get hurt, that's all," Sideswipe said before he got up and left with his brother.
