Chapter 20. Rest
I was sitting next to Ratchet, helping him and I was listening to all the things he had to say. We were interrupted by the twins who came. "Ah, there you are," Sideswipe snorted and walked up to me. "Can we take her?" Sunstreaker asked. "Be careful with her..." Ratchet said. I gave the medic a hug. He froze in place and looked at me as I got up. "Thank you." He handed me my notebook. I limped after the twins.
As they noticed I stayed behind they turned. "What's wrong?" I had already stopped walking. "I sprained my ankle." Sunstreaker frowned and walked up to me, picking me up in one move. "What have you done?" He asked. "I fell." He sighed and shook his head. I wrapped my around his neck and he caught my eyes. "Did I gain weight?"
"Hmm..." he replied which told me no. "Not as much as I thought you would," he replied. I sighed and leaned into him. He gently laid me down on his bed and removed my shoes. "You are a trouble maker," Sideswipe muttered with crossed arms. "Why?" I asked. He shook his head and handed me my notebook. "Why do you always carry that with you?" Sunstreaker asked. "Years ago... December 24th... Christmas evening... I was thrown out of the house by Edward and Jade. It was quite cold and snowing hard and everything was closed of course so I couldn't see shelter. As I was wandering over the streets for hours, a woman walked up to me. Around the age of 85. She said; 'I have seen you wander around every day... why don't you come inside and warm up?' That's what I did."
I looked at the notebook and shifted. "She gave me food, a place to sleep and thee. She was so nice and then the next morning she gave me a present. This notebook. She said that I should write down everything that interests me, that comes across my mind... everything. I never got a present from anyone so I was over the mood and so I started to write things down. Everything that interested me... from medical stuff to cooking. I spend hours and hours in the public library. Reading books to keep myself occupied. Unfortunately, the old lady was murdered but she always gave me some food and a place to sleep if I needed it."
Sunstreaker sat down. "Can I see?" I handed him the book. Sideswipe sat beside me on the bed and pulled me closer, wrapping his arms around me. I leaned into him and shut my eyes for a moment, enjoying his warm embrace. "I like it..." Sunstreaker handed it back to me. "Clever girl," he whispered and kissed my head, leaving me with his brother. Sideswipe played with my hair as I was snoozing. I was in quite a lot of pain and realized that I hadn't been as clever as Sunstreaker said I was, but I am definitely going to try it again.
The next week, I felt good enough and headed back towards the training room. It wasn't midnight, just very late in the evening. I started with some simple moves before I started to make myself harder. Again, I screwed up the move that nearly sent me into surgery and collapsed. I groaned and held my ribs for a moment. I hadn't injured myself that bad and got up. I looked up. The sound of footsteps came closer. Quickly, I moved behind some cargo boxes and crouched down. The twins.
I looked behind the boxes and saw them walking in with their swords. I wanted to join them so badly, but I am sure they are not going to be happy if they find me here. Instead, I laid down on the ground and made sure I could see what they were doing. Sunstreaker removed his shirt and threw it aside, so did Sideswipe. For some time, they circled each other. They didn't only train, they enjoyed doing it and train with each other. A smile crept up on my lips as Sunstreaker ditched Sideswipe's attack, slid over the ground and nearly hit Sideswipe with his sword. Sometimes I wonder how many times they injure each other. Sunstreaker is really rough, unlike his twin but on the other hand, I am sure he knows how far he can go with Sideswipe.
Two hours passed and the twins left the training room. It's a shame I don't have a partner to train with. I hummed and left, heading back to my room. The next evening, I was in the training room again, trying out the moves I saw the twins do the other day. To give myself the idea I had someone in front of me, I drew a smiley on the wall with crayons. I did some moves and aimed the stick at the smiley on the wall. I got more used on how to handle the stick and keep balance, but there were still things that were too hard for me to do. Not because I have some broken ribs, but because I simply couldn't do it.
I collapsed on the ground and groaned and looked up to the smiley. "To who are you smiling?" I mocked and got up, grabbing the stick. I stumbled a bit and felt two strong arms grab me. As soon as the scent of this person entered my nose, I realized who was holding me. Optimus let go me and I turned around. "Sir..." I didn't know how to explain myself. "you're fighting him?" he pointed at the smiley on the wall. "he sucks... not the best partner," I mocked. Optimus smiled a little. "Weren't you in the medbay for doing this last week?" he asked. "Yeah. I feel fine... so I thought... perhaps I can just do some simple things," I explained. He hummed and crossed his arms, "that didn't look simple. I am sure the twins can teach you that move," he said.
"I know... but they don't want to teach me just yet," I said and sighed. "You can't blame them for that. You have broken ribs and I understood from Ratchet that you sprained your ankle quite badly," he said. I nodded, "I am doing great now. Don't worry... I will be fine," I stated but noticed I was only trying to motivate myself. "I just want to fit in and prove myself. I had to do thirty job interviews before someone hired me. I just didn't get why. I think you heard from Ratchet what I came up with... I don't want to be smarter than others I just like to learn plus... the winters were quite cold so... anyway, all I want is to fit in. I look like a walking skeleton," I sulked.
"They don't deserve you, Amethyst. My Autobots are very positive about you. Each one of them for different reasons. You don't have to be afraid that they might don't like you. They do like you," he stated. A smile formed on my lips, "you need rest, Amethyst. It's already late and I am sure you're tired," he said. I gave a small, "thank you, sir. Goodnight"
"Goodnight, Amethyst."
