three
I'm about to go to bed, but there's a ring at the doorbell. I went downstairs, and opened the door.
"Katelyn!" Aphmau screamed, tears running down her face, as she stood in my doorway. Poor girl. I hugged her, her face in my chest. It's 11:00 at night, but I could care less.
She needs me now.
I took her hand in mine and walked her to the hill at the end of the block. I sat down next to her in the grass, and she leaned on me. The Stars expanded all across the night sky, shining in the dark.
"Aaron broke up with me Katelyn.. I should be feeling so badly right now but I don't feel anything... I just," she cried, her face in her hands. "I.. It wasn't.. I-I didn't love him.. I feel like I was using him.. To convince myself I'm straight."
"Aphmau, you are a star," I pointed to the brightest one in the sky, "some are dim, but others shine bright. Don't waste your time on someone who makes you dim," she looked into my eyes, her hazel eyes opening up, so glassy. Like two stars shining. She's bright.
I pointed to another star. "I'm that star. I'm dim but I'm becoming brighter," I told her. She sniffed and nodded. I put my hand on her face. I grinned.
"Why are you getting brighter, Katelyn?" Aphmau asked, the concern in her eyes growing.
"Because I'm here with you." I smiled saying it. It's real this time.
Those long nights spent dreaming about her weren't for nothing. We both smiled, and we locked lips into the most passionate kiss I've ever had. Her soft lips, her cherry lip gloss, her face red and her eyes bright.
Her.
We pulled apart and she grinned wider than ever before.
"You like me?" She asked, her face still red as a tomato.
"Everything about you is perfect. I wish you could see that too, since every time I look at you, I fall even more in love with you," I whispered.
She laughed and pulled me closer, and got lost in each other's lips.
She makes me brighter.
My world is dim without her.
I opened my eyes, and the feeling came rushing back, and I realized. I realized that the colors were back again.
Maybe I was right.
Maybe we are all stars, and we are dim until someone else makes us bright.
