Chapter 66: Thanksgiving
The crew were so happy for Thanksgiving to come. It's the only time of year they could stuff their faces with a reason to. But a certain somebody didn't know what this was or what was happening. All his memories revolved around stealing and surviving, not family.
Everyone but Ezra were in the kitchen cooking the feast, even grumpy Zeb who woke up early. Everyone was wondering where Ezra was till he walked in in black sweatpants and a white tank top. They stared at him in surprise, not because of his scars or skinny arms, but because he never wears different clothes.
He stared back in confusion, wondering why their was so much food made or cooking. He was the first to break the silence by saying, "Why is their so much food?" Everyone furrowed their eyebrows back and Hera said slowly, "Its Thanksgivings." Ezra looked down and looked back up even more confused, "What's Thanksgiving?" All were shocked at the revelation but Kanan calmly said, "Ok everyone continue cooking, I'll explain it to him." They nodded hesitantly, wanting to help but obeyed orders anyway.
Kanan and Ezra sat down on Kanan's bunk and he started to say, "So you know nothing about Thanksgiving?"
Ezra shook his head quietly. "Well Thanksgivings is a time where family gets to together and say what their thankful for and eat. Get it?" Ezra nodded this time, "Yeah. I guess I didn't know about it cause I didn't have anyone to celebrate with or the money to eat." Kanan felt sadness come through the bond and gently grabbed Ezra's chin and made him turn to him. Wanting Ezra to look him in the eyes, he said gently, "Ezra look at me."
Slowly, the sapphires looked into the teal and Kanan said determinedly, "That's in the past. You now have a family with us, now stop moping and let's go help." Ezra nodded slowly in the hand and Kanan smiled and stood up. Ezra followed in suit, following the Jedi to the kitchen.
They entered to find everyone setting the table and Kanan said, getting everyone's attention, "Anything we can do to help?" Hera smiled as everyone went back to what they were doing, "Grab a dish and set it on the table." They grabbed the last two dishes and sat down at the table with everyone else.
Everyone started loading up their plate and once everyone stopped moving, Kanan glanced at Ezra and frowned at Ezra's small plate. "Ezra, you need more food than that." Ezra frowned back and rubbed the nape of his neck, nervously saying, "I'm not used to this much food. I don't want to throw it all up afterwards." They all frowned at the skinny boy and Kanan replied, "Ok but you still need to get more weight. You weigh as much as an eight year old." Ezra blushed and nodded, agreeing with eating more.
Hera cleared her throat, gaining everyone's attention, "Ok now before we eat, everyone needs to say at least one thing they are thankful for. I'll go first, the Ghost." Everyone nodded and Sabine said next down the row, "Im thankful for my paints and explosives" "I'm thankful for my bed and smashing bucket heads." Zeb said roughly, with a smirk. "I'm thankful for the crew and my Padawan." Kanan said thoughtfully. Everyone looked to Ezra, waiting for his response. "Um.... I'm thankful for.... this." Everyone smiled at him and he blushed and ducked.
Hera clapped her hands and said with a smile planted on her face, "Ok dig in."
They all started eating and halfway through, Ezra stood up quickly and ran out. Everyone shared worried glances while Kanan stood up and said, "I'll take care of him. Y'all continue eating."
Kanan entered the fresher to find Ezra hunched over the toilet puking his dinner. He sighed sadly and kneeled down. He pulled back the blue hair and rubbed soothing circles on his back.
Once he stopped vomiting and laid his head on his arm, he leaned into the touch of his Master. Kanan smiled inwardly and said softly, "Let's get you cleaned up and put to bed." Ezra nodded weakly and made an effort to stand up only to fall with exhaustion. Kanan quickly wrapped his arm around his middle, easily catching him. Ezra put his legs back under him and grabbed the counter. Ezra stuck his face in the sink and turned the water on, catching it in his mouth and spitting it back out.
Kanan quickly seeing Ezra wasn't going to make it, he scooped him up bridle style. Ezra, too weak to protest, snuggled into the chest and Kanan smiled. "I'm going to tell Hera your going to bed so just sleep." He looked down when he received no answer but smirked as he saw Ezra already passed out.
He walked back into the kitchen and quickly shhed them. They looked at him confused but one look to his arms they understood. "I'm putting him to bed." They all nodded sadly and watched as the couple walked out, leaving them in silence.
"Poor Kid" Zeb whispered.
Kanan walked into his room, wanting Ezra to get some much needed sleep away from snoring. He stretched him out on the bed and placed the blanket over his figure. Kanan sighed and ran a hand through the boys hair, making him smile as he heard a content sigh escape the boys mouth.
"You'll be ok, Ezra. You got a family now and we are so thankful to have found you."
