Chapter 65: Sleeping
Ezra is 11. But joined a few months ago. And he's even smaller! So cute!!
Ezra shot up, gasping for air as he remembered the nightmare he just had. He quickly calmed down his breathing and felt his face for tears. He immediately felt the moisture and wiped furiously at it.
He laid back down once he was calm and thought about the nightmare. He shivered and knew he couldn't, wouldn't, go back to sleep so he thought of things to do. But the one that stuck out the most was Kanan's room.
He tried to reason with himself but his gut kept saying Kanan and his instincts haven't failed him yet so he quietly got up and snuck out of his room.
He entered Kanan's room to see his Master on his side with his back to him. Ezra not wanting to discuss his nightmare or wake him up, crawled onto the foot of the bed carefully and curled up to take up as little space as he could. After he got comfortable on the bed and mindful of touching Kanan's legs, he slowly drifted off. But what he didn't know was Kanan was already awake.
Kanan woke up once he felt the pressure on the bed and frowned as he saw his Padawan. He did like him there and loves him trusting more but why was he in his bed. Pushing those thoughts out of his head and instead felt up against Ezra's signature. He felt a slight of fear and sighed inwardly, knowing it was probably from a nightmare. Knowing he was already passed out and how uncomfortable his position was, he reached down and wrapped his arm firmly around his chest, he pulled him up to the top of the bed.
Kanan stared at the face of his Padawan and smiled. His face completely relaxed and his eyelashes touching his cheeks makes him look so much younger.
Ezra flinched but remained silent otherwise and Kanan took that has an ok to drape the blanket over him.
The Kid snuggled into the warmth of the blanket but then felt Kanan's body heat radiating and he moved closer to his side. The Jedi smiled as he placed an arm over Ezra and pulled him closer.
Ezra himself laid limp in his arms and Kanan smiled at his calm and trusting Padawan, not something he sees often. He laid his head on the pillow and closed his eyes, wishing Ezra goodnight in his mind, not wanting to disturb his dreams.
Kanan woke up to Ezra still cuddled, if not more, in his arms and smiled at him. Deciding he needed the sleep, he gently pried him off and slipping out of bed. He grabbed his shoulder guard and hair tie and walked out.
He trudged into the kitchen ready for the day only to find everyone in a heated argument. He cleared his throat silencing them, "Um... what's the problem?" "We can't find Ezra." Hera said worried. Kanan nodded and sat down, "Don't worry, I know where he is." They looked at him skeptically, "And would he be?" Sabine questioned. Kanan hesitantly said, "My room" "And why would he be on your room, Love?" Hera asked with a smirk.
"He had a nightmare and came to my room and feel asleep at the foot of my bed. I decided to let him sleep in so no one bother him." They nodded but all had a smirk. Hera suddenly said, "Go get him, I want to see him. But don't wake him up, I agree he needs sleep." He nodded, this time he was the one skeptic.
He entered his room to find Ezra still wrapped up in his blanket. He smiled as he walked over and gently grabbed under his arms. Hulling him into his arms, he let Ezra's legs hang limply around his waist and his head snuggled into the crock of his neck, his small puffs of air tickling him. Quickly grabbing the blanket and draping it over the body, he walked out with the kid in his arms.
He walked back into kitchen and once they saw Ezra, the girls melted. He sat down in his chair slightly declined for comfort. Kanan felt Ezra rub his face on his shoulder and turn his head out. "Isn't he heavy?" Sabine asked out of nowhere.
"Actually, no. To me, he definitely needs more weight. When I was holding him, he felt to be about 48, 50 pounds." They nodded as they agreed with his statement. Hera suddenly stood up and held her arms out. "I want to hold him, Love." Kanan smirked as he stood and placed Ezra in her arms bridle style. He cuddled his head into the crock of her arm and sighed softly, getting back to his dreams.
She smiled as she sat down and used one hand to tucked the blanket more securely. They smiled as he dreamed on, not knowing what was happening in reality.
As they watched him dream, they finally saw his other side. The one that rarely comes out.
His child side.
The innocent side.
They knew his experience on the streets may have changed him but not too far where they can't reach him. He slept soundly in their arms, something he hasn't been able to do in years but then came this rag tag group and gave him just that.
