Chapter 57: The Glasses
The crew had their suspicions. How he never commented about Sabines artwork, never said anything about her hair, nothing so Sabine being Sabine decided to test out a theory.
Going into Ezra's and Zeb's room, she brought her bucket of hair dye with her. Zeb with his sensitive hearing, heard her and woke up, "What are you doing?" He grumbled grumpy. She smirked and held of a bottle of dye, "Doing some experimenting, what to help?" Zeb smirked and stood up. He leaned up and picked up the sleeping kid. He placed him on the floor, and Sabine wrapped a towel around his shoulders. She put on her latex gloves and quickly got to work on his hair.
4 hours later at 6:00, Ezra woke up groggy and went to get breakfast. He ignored the sleeping lasat and entered the kitchen which had Kanan and Hera drinking their caf. But they quickly chocked on their drinks when they saw Ezra.
"What happened?!?" Hera yelled. Ezra flinched and replied "What?" She got up to leave the room and came back a minute later with a mirror. She handed it to him and him looked at it.
'I guess it's a lighter shade of gray.' He handed it back to her and shrugged but before she could say something else, Sabine and Zeb walked in chuckling at their work. They sat down and Sabine said "Did he prove it?" Hera sighed and nodded. Ezra got the message and said "Why didn't you ask me? I would've told you." They looked at him flatly, "So you would've told us you were colorblind. Yeah right" Kanan said monotonously. Ezra sighed and said "Fine I'll tell you, I was born blind with a disease called Achromatopsia where all I see is black, some grey and white now Sabine and I have somewhere to be" he grabbed Sabines hand, "Your changing my hair back. Even if I can't see it, you going to change it." She sighed and started walking with him instead of being dragged, "Fineeee" she dragged out.
A month later...
Hera called for a meeting in the Living Room and they all sat down while Ezra leaned against the wall. Hera came in a minute later with a small black box. She waved Ezra over as she sat down and he went over to her side. She pushed the box towards him and said "This is for you, consider it an early birthday gift." They heard him mumble, "My birthday is 6 months away." Sabine sighed and said "JUST OPEN IT!" Ezra could suddenly feel the excitement through the force as he opened the mystery box.
Inside laid a pair of grey framed, rainbow-colored lense sunglasses. He looked at The crew confused, "You know we live in space right?" They all chuckled and Kanan said "Just put them on." Ezra could see a spark in his eyes and trusted him. He grabbed the glasses and unfolded them. He slid them in his face and quickly took them off and held them in the air with wide eyes, jumping in shock. Sabine and Zeb just laughed at his expression.
"What-what was that?" Hera smiled softly, "Its color. Your seeing color, Love." Ezra slowly slid them back on.
It was disorienting at first but he didn't want to take them off. He blinked, once, twice and his eyes grew wide in his new world. He instantly fell in love and never wanted to take them off.
He looked everywhere, not even noticing them happy crew in front of him. Ezra looked around in awe but his eyes landed on Chopper. He knelt down next to the droid and keep at hand on his metal dome, "What color is this?" They were taken back by the question but one look at the childlike kid and Hera answered "Orange" Ezra repeated it to memorize it and nodded and looked at her in the eyes. He gasped and said, "Her skin and eyes, their so pretty!" She chuckled and said happily, "Green!" He nodded and turned to Zeb. He put a hand on his fur, "What color is this?" Zeb chuckled at the childish question, "It's purple" "If I saw it like this before, I wouldn't have minded it everywhere." Zeb saddened and said trying to keep his act up, "It's always been that color, Kid" Ezra nodded and looked up. Staring at Kanan, "What's your hair color?" Kanan said gently at his Padawan, "Brown" Ezra tested the word again, "Your armor is... green, right?" Kanan nodded, happiness running through him. "But what about your eyes?" Sabine answered for him, "We'd say teal."
Ezra turned to Sabine as it was her turn, "What color is your armor?" She sighed and said "Well typically it is magenta but let's say pink to start you off small." He nodded and watched as Sabine pushed him a mirror. They watched as he looked at himself. He ran a hand through his hair and said "What color is my hair?" They chuckled at his innocent question. "It's blue as well as your eyes." Zeb supplied. Ezra's eyebrows furrowed, "Why is it... blue?" "Your dad had blue hair." Sabine answered.
Ezra nodded and looked at Kanan happily. At that moment he let his side of the bond down and Kanan could feel his happiness, appreciation, and thankfulness. Kanan smiled and nodded. Ezra looked away after nodding back, "Thank you so much!" They all nodded this time but Zeb asked a question that intrigued everyone, "What's it like not to see color?" Ezra looked thoughtful for a second, "Well um their are many forms of colorblindness. Mine specifically is a rarer one where I see absolutely no color. So for me, the world is flatter, duller. With color, everything has depth and shades that aren't grey. So everything looks complete." They looked at the teen thoughtfully as he went back to looking at Chopper but were caught off guard when Ezra suddenly said absentmindedly, "My parents once told me the sunset was so pretty. How the oranges and the pinks would mix with the suns in the middle. I get to see that thanks to you. There is no way to show you how grateful I am." Ezra looked up and they could see a single tear make it's way down his cheek and hit the floor with a splash.
I said this week, peeps, well I was lying! So I wanted to incorporate a message in this chapter and that is: don't take everything for granted in life. I hope you enjoyed and please don't forget to comment ideas and opinions and I also need votes on if I should do another anthro Ezra! Ok bye bye!!☺️☺️
