Chapter 19: Hidden Talent
Some of Ezra's art
Ezra was having a stressful day from supply missions, Jedi training, and chasing Chopper so he sneaked on top of the Ghost with he's sketching pad and pencils in hand and sat down. He started to draw with his aged pencils and Kanan chose that moment to come get some nice, dusty, Lothal air. He saw Ezra with the wearing, old sketch pad and wanted to see what his Padawan was hiding. He left silently making up a plan to get it as he goes down to the others. He went to Sabine and the rest to forge a plan. Ezra continued drawing as time passed and once night fell, he went inside and had a rather silent dinner with the normally noisy crew. He brushed it off and went to sleep with his sketching pad underneath his pillow like always and had some happy dreams.
While this happened, Kanan opened his door and pulled the sketch book from the pillow with the force. He ran back to the kitchen were everyone was and opened it. They sat down with everyone around the table and started flipping through the book amazed by the art. They realized it was done in pencil and how detailed it was, even Sabine was amazed.
She took it to her room that night and looked through all the detailed pictures. Tracing all the outlines of pictures and trying to find meaning with them. But two pictures on the same page caught her attention. It was pairs of eyes with sayings besides them. She knew right away these were special to him. After all, she found them in the back of the book. She decided to ask later when they were alone. She also took a picture for the rest to see.
In the morning, Ezra left his room to get breakfast to make his stomach stop growling. He walked in and everything stopped. They all looked him with blank stares. Ezra slowly put his hands in the air as a sign of surrender. "What did I do now?" He asked in an annoyed voice. Sabine pulled out his sketch book and put it on the table. "How come you didn't tell you could draw?" He was shocked at first that they find his book but then shrugged it off and sat down. He pulled the book towards him and said "They aren't that good and it didn't matter. Besides Sabine's are way better." They were all surprised that he said they weren't good. Hera pulled the book towards her determined to show him just how wrong he is and opened it. She turned it towards him and started flipping through all the pencil colored pages. One was a pair of eyes, a lion, a rose, and the most recent, the desert. Ezra silently thanked the Galaxy that they didn't see the other ones. She closed it and looked at him. "These are incredible, Ezra, some wish to have this talent." He laughed and shook his head. "Hey, where did you learn to do this anyway?" Sabine asked curiously. He shrugged. "I draw what I see." She was awe shocked even more now. "Now that's a natural talent." She said thinking aloud in a whispered voice. He smiled and pulled the book back to him once again. He stood up with the sketch book in hand and walked over to grab a jogan.
"I'll be on the roof if you need me." He said and walked out. They sat there in silence thinking about the hidden talent.
Sabine decided now to ask him and told The crew she was going to ask him him something but also gave them the picture she took before she left. She went to the roof and found Ezra where he said he was. He had his sketch book out and was drawing away. She smiled, went over and sat down. She looked over his shoulder and saw he was almost finished drawing a portrait The crew. She leaned back after a while of watching and put a hand on his shoulder. He snapped his head to her and she smiled again. She suddenly asked out of the blue "What did the drawings in the back mean?" He was taking back by the question but he smiled anyway hiding his true emotion. He closed his book and stood up offering his hand to Sabine who gladly took it. He looked at her straight into her hazel eyes and said "I don't just draw what I see. I draw what I feel." And with that said, he walked away leaving a confused Sabine on the roof of the Ghost.
