The Black Diamond Club (Part 1) (O)

Short Story

------------------------------------------------------------

My room was quiet, except for the music that you could barely hear coming from my dark purple headphones.

I made my room dark and solitary by putting dark-coloured blankets over the white curtains causing the room to be bathed in an eerie red light and locking my door as well as securing it with a chair.

My parents may have been on one of their business trips again, but I still liked knowing I had total privacy.

I was typing away on my computer or at least trying to type something worthwhile and meaningful on the story I was currently working on. Writer's block happened much to often for my taste.

"Why can't I focus?" I asked nobody in particular.

I decided to exit the word document I was using to write a story and do something else.

I chose to scroll through the multitudes of blogs trying to find someone who I could relate to. Of course I found nothing close to what I was searching for.

I pushed myself away from my computer and spinned around my room on my chair, feeling disappointed.

"Nothing" I said to no one in particular. "Absoultly nothing, no one, no where."

I grabbed my kindle, put my headphones back on, and blasted Nick cave and the bad seeds through my skull.

As usual I sung to my favourite song, No more shall we part, like an idiot, even though I definitely knew I wasn't.

I glanced back to my evil computer that had no answers and then I had the uncontrollable urge to go back to it and look for some new obsession.

I had already checked popular social media, games, apps and websites. I'd have to find something that would most likely be underground.

I checked my e-mail account for any type of activity on the internet, but was midly surprised when I noticed an e-mail from an unfamiliar e-mail.

I looked at it carefully, then decided it won't hurt to click the message and read it.

Subject: Greetings

Dear Lydia Ludlow,

We've had our eye on you for the last year and we've decided to let you join us. You have been selected to join our international club of people who want more in life then what's been dealt to them.

Join our club online by registering at www.BlackDiamond.com and come to the next meeting place at San Antonio's Alamodome June 25th, 26th, and 27th. We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
The Black Diamond Club

What I felt first was suspicion when I realized they knew my name, but I shook that feeling away knowing any form of paranoia was bad due to my tendency to go overboard with it.

What I felt next was doubt that this was an actual club, but in fact some cruel joke from my friends, Lauren and Sarah. They were firm believers of the fact that I wouldn't be famous one day.

I thought about the possibility of going to the convention, but I thought better of it. Then I remembered there was a website that I could check out first.

If this was my ticket to hang out with people like me, although I sincerely doubted that this was that ticket, then no doubt I would join. However if this isn't what I hoped it was, I would be greatly disappointed.

I went against my better judgement and clicked on the website.

The page loaded and I analysed the website's properties. The website was mostly a very dark grey, but had one box in the very middle with the word 'Register' in it.

I clicked on the word and I was taken to another page, where I had to fill in my full name and my age. Once I did that, the page displayed a message.

Welcome to the Black Diamond Club

I turned from the message when I got an alert on my kindle that announced I had a new e-mail. I was too lazy to type in my password on my kindle and check my e-mail, so instead I checked it via my computer.

Subject: Secrets

Dear Lydia Ludlow,

It is imperative that you keep this club secret or else we'll have to take away your membership. Your friends, family and mentors can not know. This secret can't be leaked.

Sincerely,
The Black Diamond Club

I was now a member of a secret club, but I didn't feel that sudden fulfillment I thought I would. Instead all I felt was hungry, so I got up to grab food.

Such is my life.
