Teardrops - HP
Inspired by the song One Last Dance by R5.
"Teardrops stain your hazel eyes
I can't believe I made you cry
It feels so long, since we went wrong
'Cause you're still on my mind."
One Last Dance - R5
Warnings: James/Lily - nothing too over the top. Just Jily. Yay!
Lily had let James down. Again. This time, he couldn't deal with it.
"So - erm - Lilyflower? D-d'you wanna go out with me to Hogsme- okay, guys this is really weird," James complained, glaring at Remus and Sirius.
Remus was simply watching the two interact. Sirius, however, was one of the two.
He had wanted to help James out with his nerves and decided the best way to do that would be to help him practice asking Lily out.
Sirius has donned a red-haired wig and was wearing green contacts in his eyes (he wasn't allergic like some were). Remus has questioned why they didn't use transfiguration, but decided to leave them to it.
"Honestly, Siri, even with the wig and contact thingys, you still look like my best friend! I'm asking my best mate out! It's weird!" James exclaimed.
"Well? People would think we were weird if they saw Lily Evans in the boys dormitory! Now, the wigs and contacts, I can explain," Sirius said, acting as if this was a thing he did every day.
Now that he was thinking about it, he probably did.
"Yes, Padfoot. Because you wearing a red wig and green contacts isn't weird at all," Remus interrupted.
"Oh, shut up, Remus!"
Yup, this is their life.
James took a deep breath.
"I think I should just ask her now, guys. It's seventh year, it's one of the last times I can ask her to Hogsmeade. If I don't ask her now, I might never get to go with her. And trust me guys, I think she's the one."
"You said that about Molly too, but as soon as she found Arthur you decided that she was 'destined to be with him'," Sirius snorted.
"I have a thing for red-heads!" James protested. "I - honestly, please. Thanks for helping, and all, but I just need to do it. Now. Before I lose all my confidence and start proposing to Sirius."
"Okie-dokie!" Sirius leapt toward the door, grinning. He paused at James and Remus' weirded out looks. "What? Do I have chocolate on my face?"
"I think you forgot the wig and contacts, Padfoot," Remus said gently, like one would to a child - although Sirius appeared to have the mentality of one.
"Er - huh? Oh, right!" Sirius chuckled, took the contacts out of his eyes and threw them - along with the wig - onto his bed. "Onwards, my fellow companions! We shall stay alive in this war - the war of love!"
"Padfoot is too... weird, sometimes, Moony," James murmured behind him.
"I thought that was why you made friends with him? So you could have something in common, and so you wouldn't be alone? You know... two friends, destined to find each other, each one making the other just as strange as themselves..." Remus joked.
"Shut up," James said, playfully shoving him away from him.
This involved a five minute fight, ending with James on the floor, Remus halfway through the door, and Sirius sitting on James - they could've sworn he wasn't even in the room at that point.
A few moments later, they were all in the common room, Remus and James' hair was ruffled, both were flushed. Sirius was laughing, almost looking like he was going to choke from it.
In other words, what the Marauders did every time they went down the stairs.
"Lilyflower!" James announced, heading straight for her, trying to fix his hair. As usual, it stayed messy (rather like a bird's nest).
"What do you want, Potter? I'm trying to study," Lily snapped.
"I was just wondering - since it's almost time for Hogsmeade - 'cause it's at the weekend - erm - well..." James stumbled upon his words. "I was going to ask - well, yeah - if you wanted to go to Hogsmeade with me?"
"Stop trying to go for the sweet, stumbling over your words impression, Potter. I don't want to go out with you, haven't I made it clear throughout all these years? I don't like you, so just leave me alone!" Lily exclaimed angrily, snapping her book shut to stare James down.
"I - I - okay. I - get it now. You don't like me. Alright - I guess I'll leave you alone now." James took a few deep breaths before walking slowly and calmly to the portrait hole.
Everyone then heard a fast pattering of feet from behind it.
Sirius had seen tears rolling down James' face after Lily's abrupt anger. He stomped angrily to her.
"How could you? You made him cry, Evans! No one can make him cry, he didn't even cry when he found out his grandparents had died earlier this year. He just went along with it, and now you've made him cry, it was his last breaking point! I can't believe you, Evans! You know how much he likes you - did you know he made us stop the pranks that were supposed to go off at the feast? Just because of you."
He then bolted out of the room, no doubt going to look for James.
Remus glared at her, before following suit.
Lily looked down at her book in shame.
"I've got to go and apologise," she whispered to no one in particular. Nobody stopped her as she left.
James had ran past McGonagall ("Dear me, Potter, are you okay?") and Flitwick ("Mr Potter, are you alright? Do you need -") before he had finally gotten to his destination - the Astronomy Tower.
He always went up here for comfort after Lily rejected him. It was a peaceful view, the wind swept through his hair and messed it up even more (although after his rejects he never really cared) and it felt like he was flying, even though he wasn't.
He smiled, ignoring the tears still dripping down his have and sighed, leaning against the side.
"Why doesn't she like me?" he asked himself softly. "I think I'm a pretty good person. I know that my pranks were rude now, I understand that they hurt people, but when I stopped them at the feast Lily didn't even mention it. I wish she could see how much I liked her."
He sighed and climbed onto the banister, sitting on it with his legs dangling over the side.
The door flung open.
"James!"
He turned around, surprised to hear that voice - that voice which made him flustered and nervous.
He stumbled backwards, falling onto the floor and banging his head onto it.
"James - what are you doing - I'm so sorry - are you okay?"
He stood up on wobbly legs, clutching her arm for balance.
"Okay, there we go. There we go. You alright? Can you hear me now? It's okay, James. I'm so sorry, I thought you were doing it as a joke, but when I realised that there weren't any harmful pranks this year, I realised that you actually did like me. I'm sorry," she sobbed into his shoulder.
"S-Sirius?" he slurred.
"No, James, it's Lily. Evans. Lilyflower. Come on, you know who I am!"
"No, Siri? Paddy?"
"You want Sirius? Shall I get him for you?"
"No. Stay."
Lily smiled, a beautiful and real smile, just for him. If he was honest, he felt a bit dazed.
"Real?"
"Yeah, James. It's me."
And they shared their first kiss.
Lily felt pure happiness.
While James was pretty sure he was either dreaming or hallucinating. Either way, he was enjoying it.
"And that's the story of how the bookworm and the incredibly handsome pranker got together. He had a concussion and was pretty sure it wasn't real, while she was celebrating the best part of her life. Him."
Remus shoves Sirius.
"Shut up!" he hissed. "Let them enjoy it without your commentary. We don't want them knowing we watched."
"Right," Sirius nodded.
The two snuck out, but not before Sirius risked one more glance at the two.
James had his head on her shoulder. Both were sitting down with their backs against the wall. Lily was putting her fingers through his hair.
All in all, that was a pretty good day.
Awwww. That was cute. That also took me forever. Lol. Next up - two one Shots for someone! Yayyy! See ya!
