Antar Ibn Shaddad

Once upon a time,
There was a knight named Antar.
He was a mighty mighty man,
A skilled poet, a brave fighter.

Antar was deep, deep in love,
With Abla, his dearly beloved.
Her father was a vile, vile man.
He thought Antar was not avid.

He thought the hero would give up,
If her dowry was a mighty mighty gift.
A thousand camels from Nu’man,
So Antar packed his sword and left.

The mighty warrior surfed the sand.
For months and months he disappeared.
They thought the hero was no more,
Until one day he once appeared.

He brought the camels to his love,
And asked her father for her hand.
The vile vile man then seethed.
The scheme did not go as he planned.

Another suitor volunteered,
By his arrogance he was misled.
He hired vile, vile goons,
To bring to the father Antar’s head.

The mighty warrior beat them all.
He lived to show the tribe his might.
His father asked him to lead the war,
To prove their kinship in the fight.

Antar  battled with all his heart.
He won the war and his full name
His father called him his mighty son,
Right after years and years of shame

He was finally fit for his lovely Abla
He bore the scars to hear her laughter,
But the truth be told, nobody knows,
If they all lived happily ever after.
