Burns
(valinator7 requested a travlyn and honestly it's basically cannon now and I really wanna do another one. So let's roll)
You know that feeling when you're sitting a little too close to the campfire and you know it could hurt you but it just lures you in, like it has a death grip on you but you're willing to go with this? That's what love is like, or at least how Travis saw it, while Katelyn's view was a bit more narrow and scolding. Love was all but a pretty lie, like most things in life. He knew that was why she always had her guard up. He remembered the first time she let it drop, just a little.
They were on the beach, just watching the calm waves roll in lazily. Birds flying in long lazy loops over their heads as the sun beat down on the beach. The beautiful white sand making the whole scene seem surreal. Travis watched with patience as Katelyn slowly got into the water. He couldn't help but smile at how scared she seemed to be of the crystal blue ocean.
Color of her eyes blue
He blinked and saw his friend (crush?) go under the surface. She swam out towards his left before popping up a bit away. Her hair was soaked and a mess on her head. She pulled it back into a bun, stretching and showing off her pale white skin with all the beauty marks. His heart raced as he saw her lightly bite her lower lip before meeting their eyes. He felt blood rush to his face that seemed to heat itself ten-fold. He gave an awkward way and then...
Katelyn laughed. It was a sound that made his heart flutter and he swore it sounded better than anything he had ever heard. Sweet and lovable, he could have listened to nothing but that for the rest of his life (He wish he could). Her whole body seemed to be in the laugh, her head thrown back and her shoulders and body shaking with the gasps of air. It was a soild 30 seconds of him taking her utter beauty before him as she laughed at his awkwardness.
That was the first time she let down her walls... a little
There were more moments like that after. They danced a silly little dance with him tempting her closer and, in an effort to impress him, she'd let him see a side of her few had seen before she'd jump back only to be tempted again. They weren't elegant or extremely cute, but that's the point of love. Not everything in love was done without a hitch or in a cutesy fluffy way. Love was about diving in head first and being terrified out of your mind while somehow gaining more courage to go further.
The first time the walls were down completely was a stormy, ugly, yucky day. He couldn't remember what they were doing exactly, maybe playing a board game or watching whatever musical was her obbsesion at the time, but she had stopped when he flirted with her trying to steal his first kiss. She had jerked away and looked away, her shoulders slack. Was it his fault? Did he hurt Her?
He rushed to try and fix her, believing this was his fault. He begged for her forgiveness before she told him it wasn't him. She clutched her sweater to her body, this was not like her at all. She told him some secrets that day, things she had hidden for a long time, warning him about getting so close to her. She seemed to truly believe that he would get up and leave due to the things she said.
He didn't
Love is so dangerous and so risky. They're nothing you can control and the words that came out of her mouth were things she wanted to control. Katelyn wanted nothing more than to lock those things away and forget they existed. But he was getting closer and closer without her meaning to let him, he was starting to burn the hairs on her arms. She was scared she'd burst into flames. So she hid from him.
For the longest time Travis watched Katelyn teeter on the thin line of falling in love and running away. She was torn between being a normal human with emotions and needs, and being some hollow version of a human. He knew he couldn't nudge her in a certain direction or else she might run the other way or dive straight off and hurt herself. It took time, but she did take the jump despite her heart that screamed out in terror.
He caught her. She remembers the day she knew it too. The hour, minute, second, moment she knew.
March. It's was the 13th. 2pm. 43 minutes and 56 seconds when he took her hand and danced her around the room. The cold wooden kitchen floor that touched her pale white skin, her ripped jeans slightly damp from snow, her black sweater still having snowflakes. Their eyes met and she couldn't help but flush and laugh with him. That was the day she realized she was safe with him as their lips pressed together.
Loving is dangerous yet a great adventure.
An adventure nether of them wanted to stop
(I HOPE YOU LIKED IT MAN I LOVE SOME GOOD TRAVLYN)
