meeting the parents

"Nervous love?" Matt asked as he rubbed my back. I took a deep breath.

"Yeah. I mean it's only my parents. Not like I haven't seen them everyday since birth." I said with a nervous laugh. Matt smiled.

"You're right. It's only your parents. If anyone should be nervous it's me." He said as he kissed my temple. "First official meeting. Nothing to be worried about." The last comment seemed to be directed at himself. I pulled him closer and rested my chin on his chest. Matt seemed to snap out of his thoughts and looked down at me. "What is it love?"

"Nothing." I said with a smile. Matt tilted his head. "Just you being you. And overthinking everything." Matt pursed his lips and looked away. I giggled and gently squeezed his waist to get his attention. "Don't worry about it. My parents asked to meet you so here we are. You and I both know they like you so just be yourself." Matt smirked down at me. "OK be the Matt I fell in love with and everything will be fine." I leaned up and gave him a kiss. "Trust me?" I breathed against his lips.

"I trust you." Matt said as he kissed me again. We broke apart when he heard someone.

"Mphm." Matt and I pulled away from each other. Matt rubbed the back of his neck.

"Sorry." I said with a blush. My mom smiled at us and shook her head.

"Don't apologize." She said. Matt and I looked at each other sheepishly. "Just pay better attention."

"Will do mom." I said. "Good to see you again. Dad downstairs?" I hugged my mom and ushered Matt into the house. I was paying attention to getting Matt into the house and didn't realize my dad was right in front of me. I almost walked into him. "Never mind. Found him." I smiled and gave him a hug as well.

"Good to see you too (Y/N)." My mom said as she locked the door. Matt stood awkwardly to the side as I greeted my parents.

"You remember Matt." I said as I moved to stand next to Matt. "Matt, this is mmy mom and dad." I blushed again. "And you all already know each other. Forgot about that." I rubbed the back of my neck and Matt gently grabbed my hand. He gave my hand a squeeze and stuck his other hand out to my dad.

"Nice to see you both again." Matt said with a smile.

"Nice to see you too Matt." My dad said as he shook Matt's hand.

"(Y/N), would you come help me with dinner?" My mom asked. I nodded and leaned up to kiss Matt's cheek.

"Behave." I whispered as I moved past my dad. He raised an eyebrow at me. I gave him a look and moved my finger between the two. "I mean it. Behave." Matt gave me a look. "Both of you." Matt rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to my dad. They struck up a conversation as I left the room. "So you needed my help?" I asked my mom. She smiled and I shook my head.

"Not really. Just needed an excuse to talk to you without Matt. Even though I do love his accent." She said. I rolled my eyes and hopped up on the counter like I had when I was younger. My mom gave me a look and I shrugged.

"So what you wanna talk about?" I asked as I picked up the magazine that we never really figured out how we got. I started to flip through it as I waited for my mom to start the conversation. When she didn't say anything I looked back up. Matt and my dad had walked into the room. Matt looked between me and my mom with a raised eyebrow. I shrugged again and went back to my magazine.

"Everything okay?" My dad asked. I nodded as I looked at a page in the magazine.

"Yep. All good." My mom said with a nod towards me. "Some things never change." I smiled and flipped the page.

"That's cuz things have had the chance change." I said glancing up at my parents. I sent a wink to Matt who was trying not to laugh at my comment.

"If you gave it a try you'd find it wasn't that bad." My dad shot back. He looked back at Matt and nodded downstairs. "Let's go talk down here since up here is occupied." Matt nodded and quickly walked over to kiss my cheek and followed my dad downstairs. I smiled as he followed my dad. I couldn't get rid of my smile quick enough because my mom caught me.

"You really like him don't you?" She asked. My eyes went wide and I slightly raised the magazine to try to cover my blush that was slowly getting darker. "Come on. I've known all you crushes since you were ten. Don't change anything now." I laughed as I lowered the magazine again.

"Yeah and that was only because you could always tell because, according to you, I had a tell. I'd binge every one of their movies or television shows all the time." I said looking over at her as she cooked.

"Well it's true. Not to mention you bought tickets to meet like half of them at comic cons." She pointed a spoon at me.

"Okay not my fault. You could have stopped me at any time. But you didn't. So that's on you." I said, pointing back at her.

"Touche." She said, turning back to the stove. "But honestly, you really like him don't you?" I sighed and hopped down off the counter. I sat down at the table so I could look downstairs and see Matt talking to my dad. Matt looked upstairs and smiled when he caught me looking at him. I smiled back and nodded.

"Yeah I do. And it's not like all the other times. I mean I can actually talk to him and I get along with him insanely well." I said. My mom looked over at me and gave me a knowing look. "I mean he's such a nerd and he knows almost all my references and I know almost all his and we just get along so well and I..." I started to ramble. My mom laughing cut me off. "What?" She walked over to the table and glanced downstairs.

"I get it. I really do. And he's good for you." My mom said. I scoffed. "Seriously. Answer this. Are you happy with him?" I watched Matt as he talked with my dad. A smile was on his face and even at a distance I could tell his cheeks were a little pink.

"Yeah. I am. Really happy." I replied, never taking my eyes off of him.

"Are you comfortable with him?" I nodded.

"More than I ever thought I'd be with someone." I said. My mom gave me a look I knew all too well. She didn't know what I was talking about. "Do you remember I told you about (first crush's name)? How I could never actually say anything because I was always so scared I'd mess up what I wanted to say? I always thought that would end up being how I was around everyone I liked." I smiled and looked down at my hands. "Well with Matt, it's like talking to my best friend. It is the easiest thing in the world. It's like I've known him my entire life. And I actually enjoy just sitting there talking to him about anything and everything."

"So you've told him about your Constantine phase?" My mom hinted. I blushed and let my head fall on the table.

"No." I mumbled out. My head shot up and I quickly got up. "You cleaned up my room didn't you?" I asked, my eyes wide. My mom smirked as she shook her head. I turned red and bolted up the stairs. The chair slid against the floor, catching the attention of Matt and my dad.

"What was that about?" Matt asked my dad. He shrugged and then smiled knowingly.

"Why don't you go ask (Y/N) yourself?" My dad said as he looked up the stairs at my mom and shared a look with her. "First room on the left when you go up the stairs from the kitchen." Matt nodded and started up the stairs. I heard a knock on the door and shook my head.

"Honestly mom you have at least hid some of this..." I turned around froze when I saw Matt leaning on the doorframe. "Stuff." Matt's smile grew as he took a look around my room .

"What's all this?" He asked as he walked into the room. He looked around as he made his way to my bed and sat down on the edge. I blushed and joined him.

"You know how I said I was a fan before I met you?" I asked. Matt gave me a look.

"(Y/N), love, we met at a con." he reminded me. I sighed.

"I know. Just I never told you how much of a fan I was." I said as I picked up my John Constantine funko pop. I focused on the pop as I waited for Matt to say something. It was a while before Matt said anything.

"You know I always had a feeling you were a bigger fan than you ever let on." he said as he scooted closer to me. He gently took the pop from me and turned it over in his hands. He watched my face for a reaction. "I never really cared. I just meant I meant something to you. More than ever just being the one you chose to spend part of your life with."

"Really?" He shrugged and smiled at me.

"Really. And that is never going to change." I blushed and leaned over into Matt's shoulder. "Never. I'm going to love you for as long as I can." I looked up at Matt and smiled.

"I'm always going to love you too."

"Good." He kissed me gently. "I think dinner's just about ready. Why don't we head down?" Matt said when he pulled away. I nodded and Matt put the pop back on my nightstand. I took his hand and we both headed down the stairs. My parents shared a knowing look and my dad finished setting the table. I sat down and Matt moved behind me, unsure of where to sit. I looked back at him and nodded my head to the empty chair next to me. He smiled at me as he sat down. My dad took his seat and my mom served dinner.

"So Matt what we talked about earlier..." My dad trailed off. Matt looked at my dad and then me.

"I don't think it's going to ever be a problem sir. (Y/N)'s kind of stuck with me." Matt looked over at me. "Aren't you love?" I laughed and put a hand on my arm.

"I think it's more like you are stuck with me." I said. Matt blushed. "But yeah either way no one is going anywhere."
