wilted (kth)
"Someone like you does not forget someone like me," a voice rang in her ears as she turned around in her chair, just a tiny bit of fear mixing in her blood. Sweat beads formed on her forehead as she realized that she was now at the mercy of his hands. She felt herself on the verge of breaking down. But she held it in, if she had even the slightest chance of getting out of her alive, she couldn't mess it up by not thinking straight.
"I haven't forgotten you, General Kim."
"Well will you look at that? Her highness, the princess Eleonora Mercy, remembers me, her humble, pathetic servant!" the young man exclaimed, with a hand on his heart. He stared at her open mouthily. He felt an unwelcoming relief spread throughout his being, seeing her right in front of him after so many years of being separated. Even after everything she did to him, she still had effect on him. And who was to blame? No one but him and his childish beliefe that someone could ever love him after his own parents abandoned him.
He walked out of his shadowy corner, and in front of her. He looked just as beautiful as she remembered. He still had those wild eyes looking in hers, trying to find even an ounce of regret. He didn't find it; he couldn't find it. He still had that scar running from his chin to his neck bone from one of the countless battles he had fought. He still had those curly, misbehaving black locks, covering his forehead as he swatted them aside impatiently.
Eleonora starred back at him with the same intensity even though...
She stared back even though her heart felt as if it would burst out of her rib cage anytime. She starred back, even though the look of disbelief in his eyes threw colossal waves of guilt inside her. She broke their eye contact though, when she felt as if looking for a minute more will mean confessing to him, her real intentions, her real emotions. She closed her eyes realize that he still had the same effect on her, even after all that she had done to him.
"What do you want with me, general?" she asked through gritted teeth. He tilted his head. The young princess almost forgot her position in the kingdom for a minute, as he almost smiled at her. The young chief, pulled at his navy-blue trousers before squatting to her height.
"Do not call me that. I have long since given up on that rank and the kingdom full of snakes for countrymen and hyenas for royalty." he glared at her with cold eyes, every trace of smile gone. She glared back at him, hatred for the monster that he actually was, robbed her off of every other thought. She balled her fists tightly and hissed, feeling the ropes cut through her skin.
"Even if my eyes were to be scratched out and fed to the demons, I shall not take the disrespect of my kingdom kindly, Kim." Eleonora said.
"My resentment for you has started to outweigh my love for you, Mercy. I could still take you back if only you come with me." his offer, though meant to be a kind gesture, aggravated the princess.
"You make me wish for death every time my name comes out of your sinful lips." she looked away in disgust. The man before her, who once wore robs woven with finest silk from around the world, looked rough, yet prideful in his tribe chief attire. He chuckled humorlessly.
"Still as feisty as you used to be, I se-"
"For the fear of god, don't pretend as if you know me."
Silence fell between them as they both continued their silent battle.
"How did you do it, Mercy?" he asked shaking his head slowly. A small smile tugged at the end of his lips. "How did it feel after betraying someone you loved more than your life?"
Eleonora scoffed before replying in a sneering tone, "Quite being delusional. As if I will ever love you,"
"You're not at war anymore... You have found your answers, haven't you?" Eleonora stayed quiet. She couldn't possibly say anything now... For if she did, she would be trading on thin ice.
"How did you make the pain go away? What were you so afraid of? You filled me with so much pain, so much hurt, it's suffocating to speak without choking upon your promises. Why did you Mould me with so many memories, Mercy? You've made me question if I was even real. I don't think I'm real anymore, at least not unless I'm hurting in some way. It's not like I've gotten used to the pain, but I just don't know what to do with it anymore. Yo-"
"If so," the girl began, still looking at her feet with a cloudy vision. "Then why did you kill her."
He stayed silent.
"Why did you kill her?!" Eleonore screamed, finally looking up at him. He watched as she broke down completely, her sobs filling the cold, empty cave. "All she ever asked of you was love! A bit of attention! She lord worshiped you!! Lily did not deserve such a cheap death! She trusted you, Kim Taehyung! She lost her entire being because of you! you ran away from everything, but I remained! I stood there, day after day, looking into the mirror, seeing her beside me! Just why," she sobbed, "just why did you leave me alone with the pain and a broken heart?"
"Because I'd never let you find out how it felt to have a broken heart... Not when it's because of a loved one dying into your arms." Eleonora felt her world stop. She looked up at him. Tears ran down her face as he just allowed a small, sad smile to take over his features. "She took the sun with her when she left, Mercy. Lily lived enough to ensure you got to live."
"N- no,"
Taehyung sighed, getting up and going behind her to free her hands. She sat, slumped in her place as he faced her again. Just then, a string of shouts went off outside of the cave. Eleonora's eyes widened and she clutched Taehyung's hand. More shocked at her actions, than he was at the ruckus, he looked at their adjoined arms before looking at her. A young man came running inside, gasping for breath as Taehyung's eyes lowered on a stabbing wound.
"Chief! The tribe has fa-" an arrow shoot out of nowhere, getting Taehyung's sub-chief in a single shot. He looked at the fallen body, with eyes wide. Slowly, he approached the dead man and leaned his slender body, gently closing his eyes.
"We should leave," he said to Mercy without turning to look at her. Not getting an answer, he turned only to see the cave empty. In a moment, he connected the dots and ran out, aghast at the sick scheme of the royal family. Everything outside, was coated in complete chaos. His tribesmen were fighting for their lives. He pulled his knives out and breathed calmly, before he felt that in the mist of all this, something was amiss. He looked around carefully and saw. A pair of beautiful, identical women. Same black eyes, same raven hairs...
Why are you alive? He wondered to himself. Then, she turned to face him and his breathe hitched. She was mourning.
"Stop!" the other sister shouted; her voice full of authority. Everyone paused. They were all looking at either the sisters, or the tribe chief. She smiled at him, slowly climbing down from the rubble of rocks that she was standing on. Taehyung starred at her, soaked to the bones in disbelief.
"Surprised to see me, general Taehyung?" she asked sweetly. He looked around himself, trying to find a specific figure. "Oh, don't look at them like that, they did their best trying to kill me."
His eyes snapped back up, where she stood, the girl he refused to acknowledge had fooled him a few minutes ago. She was crying silently, as the man behind her pushed her roughly into action, made to follow the queen. He felt anger burn in every part of his body seeing the way she was being treated. She was not who he believed her to be. She was not Eleonora. For the said princess, now the queen, stood tall in front of him, with not the slightest hint of regret or guilt in her eyes.
And behind the queen, stood the girl Taehyung had fallen in love with. Lily, stood there, shaking with remorse. Then, without breaking their newly established eye contact, Eleonora pulled Lily by her hairs, bringing her between them. Taehyung made to move forward but stopped at her warning. She pulled an extremely sharp looking knife from the fold of her sleeves, trailing it in curvy lines along Lily's exposed throat.
"How does it feel dear? Losing the best thing that ever happened to you? Not once... but twice... I hope it hurts more than the hurt you caused me."
"Eleonora, leave Lil-"
"Oh, but isn't she the key compound, general?"
"She's your sister for god's sake!!" he shouted, enraged.
"A traitor of the kingdom is by no means the sister of mine. This pathetic wench betrayed us by not killing you while having the chance."
Lily whimpered, trying to grab onto Eleonora's hand. Then the most horrific thing happened. An arrow came in contact with Eleonora's skin, pushing her hand with its force. She screamed as she noticed a green gauze mixing into her blood. They all looked towards the direction from where it had come. The prince, Jeon Jungkook stood above them all.
"Don't you dare harm my sister." he said, making her laugh. Thinking her to have gone mad, they looked at her with wide eyes.
"Silly boy, don't you see? In my vast kingdom, you are not the king anymore!! And the wench you strive to free, she is already dying."
With that being said, several things happened at the same time. Arrows started shooting from every direction. Eleonora jumped from her position, hastily straddling on her stallion and galloping away. Jungkook and the present general Jimin, made to follow after her. Meanwhile Lily...
Lily fell into the arms of Taehyung, blood spouting from the split made on her throat. She touched the cut with trembling hands as tears fell, uncontrollably from Taehyung's eyes. He pulled her closer into himself, both of them sinking low onto the ground. With one hand, he held her close and other hand, he stroked her hairs.
"P- please forgive me for- for everything that I have done," she gasped out, making him break into a fresh fit of tears.
"Don't speak, save your energy, I will- I'll save you this time, Lily. I won't let you go this time." He said, determined. He picked her up, as delicately as he could. She winced.
"No. Listen Taehyung," she tried her very best to keep her eyes open, as he walked away, trying to find them a carrier amidst of all the chaos. "I cannot die without saying this. T- Taehyung..."
He finally stopped and looked in her eyes. Lily smiled lovingly, the way she always did making her eyes glint. She reached out and wiped his tears with shaky hands.
"You- you are just a stupid brown-haired boy with- with b- brown eyes, so wh- why did I lose my- myself in you?" a fit of cough wrecked her fragile body as she sputtered out blood. He made sit down in a shadowy corner, holding onto her for dear life. "I promised..." she gasped, "I promised that I would- would protect you. And I- I had ev- every intention to follow through."
The words made Taehyung shake his head violently.
"Ahh T- Taehyungahh I f- feel so tired..." his eyes widened.
"You stay awake do you hear me?! Don't you dare close your eyes! Please, Lily! Please stay awake!" he looked around once again, before standing up. He turned his body against her, about to run away as he felt a tug at his hand. He looked back, and with every ounce of live she had left in her, she pulled him.
"You a- were, you were my h- happy ending general Kim, I love you." she whispered, adjoining their foreheads. He felt her hand go numb in his, as silent tears made their way out of his eyes.
and just like that, he lost her. Once again... Except this time, she had no chance of returning. Her every inch was Taehyungs holy grail. Her every word was his wish, his command... Her skin was carved with scars that someone else had earned. It was him; her scars were always going to reflect in his eyes.
For his Lily had now wilted.
