At the beginning of time, Helen was the mother of all. She created the earth, the water, the sky, the sun and the moon, and all living things. However, watching human men and women meeting and marrying and loving, she grew to be lonely. Her final creation, she decided, would be a husband for herself. She crafted him in the same way she'd created humans, and upon breathing life into him, she named him Ulysses.

The two deities loved each other greatly and Helen bore six children: Roger, Diane, Jason, Isabelle, Chris, and Ashley. When these six were grown, they left the heavenly palace of their parents and chose to explore the wondrous world their mother created. Each went his/her own separate way to find his/her own special element and abilities.

Roger, in his travels, met and married a human girl. He fashioned a home for her using his gift of the earth: he grew and braided trees together. Their trunks formed the walls; their roots the floors; their branches the roof. Beautiful white flowers bloomed here and there within and without the castle, their sweet scent completing this monument to Roger's love. Here, Roger brought his wife, and they found happiness there together.

Diane was the first of Roger's siblings to hear of this, and she became jealous that he found love while she did not. Her rage was such that the clouds, which obeyed her every whim, boiled up and formed an ugly gray mass directly above Roger's abode. Looking down on his castle from her bed of clouds, Diane's anger grew. Thinking to tear it down, she reached down and struck a turret with her long white arm. This was the first lightning.

Jason, Isabelle, Chris, and Ashley, enraged that Diane would do such a thing, yelled at her to stop. This was the first thunder. Diane wouldn't listen, however, and she struck again and again until the white flowers were set ablaze with the first fire. This enchanted Jason, and he found that he could control the fire and direct its blaze, and so he used this ability to save Roger's home.

When finally Diane was calmed, the six siblings separated again. Roger now governs the earth, and Diane the air; Jason the fire, and Isabelle the water; Chris the dark, and Ashley the light. However, there is still much sibling rivalry amongst the six, and Diane's temper is still easily stirred; thunderstorms are, therefore, fairly common.
