Please, just come back
"Hey babe, you coming back to bed?" A girl asks her partner who was staring out into the ocean.
" ..." No reply came from the other girl.
Beth was pretty used to Chloe zoning out. She had always done it when they were kids. Chloe had always believed in another life, one where she was near the ocean and while Beth tried her best to recreate that world for her it was never enough.
"You okay?" She tried again this time slipping her arms around Chloe's waist and leaning her head into the other girl's shoulder but even so, Chole was still staring off.
When the two started dating it often annoyed Beth that Chloe kept zoning out but she later realized that the girl had no control over it so Beth learned to love it about her girlfriend. The calmness it brought to both of them and the comfortable silence that filled the atmosphere.
Feeling Chloe tense against her before relaxing once more, Beth knew she was out of her trance and started to move to Chloe's front so that she could see her.
"Hi." Chloe greeted shyly.
After being friends and girlfriends for so long Chloe was still ashamed of the fact that she kept zoning out a lot even after thousands of reassurance from Beth.
"Hey," Beth smiled, which always lit up Chloe's heart. "You wanna go back to bed now?"
Chloe just shook her head and sat down on one of the beach chairs. Beth climbed on her lap, trying to get closer to her. Once settled on her lover's lap she gave Chloe a cheek kiss and forced the girl to look at her.
"Hey, you can talk to me remember?" Beth reminded her.
Chloe nodded and gave Beth a tired smile.
"I love you." She whispered.
Beth couldn't help but smile this time. This was the first time that Chloe said it first. All the times before Beth had said it first but this time, this time Beth was ecstatic because Chloe said it first.
"I love you too," Beth told her with a kiss.
"Thank you for sticking by me, Beth. I know I'm not easy to deal with..." Chloe started shyly.
"Hey, no. I don't care about that. I love you for you. I fell in love with who you are, no matter how you act." Beth stopped her before she could spiral.
"I know you do, I just wanted to say thank you." Chloe laughed and gave Beth a nose kiss.
Beth playfully pushed Chloe away but Chloe pulled and snuggled her closer. Beth satisfied with her lover's action laid her head on Chloe's shoulder and leaned in closer while Chloe wrapped her arms around Beth. Chloe started humming a melody, one that they both loved to sing along.
Soon enough Beth had fallen asleep in her arms. The slight snores coming from the girl made Chloe chuckle. Chloe picked the girl up carefully not wanting her to wake before carrying her to their bed. Beth had already changed into some of Chloe's clothes for the night, and Chloe couldn't help but smile at how the small girl looked in her clothes. Chloe laid Beth down and slipped in beside her holding the girl close.
"I love you, Beth. Forever and Always." Chloe said before going to sleep herself.
========(A/n I'm sorry in advance)==========
The morning after, sunlight peeked through the room, waking Beth up. She smiled happily finding Chloe beside her. She looked peaceful for once. Beth moved a strand of brown hair away to see her lover's face more clearly.
Beth kissed Chloe's forehead in hopes to wake the girl up but to no avail. She tried again this time on Chloe's nose, nada. Once more on Chloe's cheeks, still nothing.
'Strange' Beth thought to herself. 'Chloe wasn't a heavy sleeper'
Beth kissed her lover once more on her lips this one however made her panic.
Chloe's lips had gone cold.
Beth shot up and tried her best to wake the other girl up but nothing was working. Beth didn't want to accept it. They were happy just the night before, the world couldn't be this cruel could it?
Beth laid beside Chloe again in hopes that Chloe would pull her closer, that her lover's heat would comfort her, and the thumping of her heart would reassure her but nothing. Tears finally fell from her eyes as the thought hit her. Beth would never get to see Chloe's ridiculous smile again, hear her lover's melodious laugh in the air, smell the ocean breeze right off her clothes, feel the comfort of being in her arms, and the taste of cherry cola off her lips.
Chloe was gone, she died in her sleep, holding her love in her arms for the last time.
"I love you too, Chloe. Forever and Always." Beth said as she buried her head into the girl's unmoving chest. "Please, just come back."
