It's time I make a new promise

"Hey, Bree you almost finish yet?" Clover called out as she fixed her tie once more.

"Yeah give me a sec!" Rummaging was heard before Bree emerged from the room. "Sorry, sorry, sorry."

Clover was mesmerized by her girlfriend's attire. Bree had a short shiny black dress. Paired with glittering silver heels and a silver pouch. She was absolutely stunning. Clover couldn't help but think that she was the luckiest girl in the world.

"Clo, your staring." Bree brought her out of her thoughts. "Does it look bad? Should I change?"

Bree stood in front of the mirror trying to find what was wrong and fixing the dress ever so often. Clover couldn't understand how Bree always doubted how she looked but Clover would never hesitate to reassure her.

"You look ravishing," Clover whispered as she came up from behind. "You are just missing something to pair with your necklace."

Bree looked up to her tall girlfriend in confusion. Clover didn't say anything but instead pulled off her own necklace and let the ring slide off it. She took Bree's hand in hers and placed it in the palm of her hand.

Bree watched in shock at Clover's gesture. Ever since they had met Clover had always worn the ring necklace, never taking it off even if it clashed with her outfits. Now she had just given the ring to Bree.

"Clo, why are you giving me your ring?" Bree asked as she stared at it.

"It's a promise ring." Clover started. "You've asked me a lot of times before why I always wore it. It's time I tell you."

Bree was surprised to hear those words. She never thought she would hear the reason behind the mysterious ring.

"When I was 15, my life was spiraling down. My parents were always fighting, my brother was never home, and I was struggling with school.

I was in a bad place. I questioned everything I knew and it took a lot from me. No one noticed what was happening so I dealt with it on my own. Whenever the night came and the moon shone, that was when I knew I could cry and won't need to fake a smile because, well, no one could see me.

But there was one day when I couldn't handle it anymore. I had pills in my pockets, I was ready to end it all." Clover choked on her words.

Bree held her hands and kissed her on the cheek, trying her best to reassure the taller girl. "Take your time, I'm not going anywhere."

"I had them out and I stared at the moon looking for a sign to not go through with it. That's when I found a clover. It was nothing special but it gave me hope and I felt something in me change. I didn't know what it was back then but I felt like I had something waiting for me. Something worth staying in this miserable world just a little longer.

I bought this ring as a promise to myself that I wouldn't try to attempt it again and I am so happy I never did because I found you. You made my life better. You made me better, and I can never thank you enough for it."  Clover was crying at this point.

Bree felt her heartache at what her partner had gone through. Hesitantly, she reached up and wiped away the tears that were falling from Clover's eyes. Bree gave the older girl a small smile reassuring Clover that she was there for her and she was never leaving.

"I should be thanking you for staying," Bree whispered as she leaned on Clover, connecting their foreheads. "But since you insist, you're welcome, my love."

Clover chuckled at Bree's attempt to cheer her up. This was one of the many reasons she had fallen for the younger girl. No matter what the situation would be Bree would always make it her mission to make Clover smile.

"It's time I make a new promise." Clover took her ring from Bree's hand and knelt down on her knee. "With this ring, I promise to always be by your side whether you want me or not."

"Of course, I'd always want you by me." Bree jumped in.

"I know you do, but could you let me finish love?" Clover asked making Bree blush madly and nodding along.

Clover took a deep breath before she continued. "I promise to love you for as long as we both live and never take you for granted. I promise to treat you like the queen you are because you saved me from a life that has been nothing but great. I promise this to you and will do everything in my power to keep them."

Bree was at a loss for words. All she could think of doing was to hold Clover close and never let her go. So that's exactly what she did. Bree pulled Clover up by her collar and pulled her into a kiss. Clover melted into it and wrapped her arms around the shorter girl not wanting to let go.

Eventually, the two separated for air and Clover slipped the ring on Bree's finger. Bree looked at the ring in awe and admiration at the girl who gave it to her, before kissing Clover on the cheek.

"Shall we go then?" Bree asked, realizing that they were late.

"We shall." Clover held her arm out for Bree to take and the two headed out.
