Forget that I was something
Carly took her suitcase from the closet and packed all her things. She just needed to get out of here. Brie would be back soon and she do not need to see her. Not after Brie ran away from her.
Carly dragged her suitcase down the stairs and into her car before rushing back into the house to get a few of her other belongings. Her guitar, the paints, and all of her works were now in the car. Carly took one last look around the bedroom they had once shared when her eyes spotted the ring she had bought.
She grabbed it off the table and felt over its engraving thinking how stupid could she be? Brie always had her reserves in the relationship, she didn't even want to have one, to begin with. Guess Carly really was just a fool in love.
'Not any more' Carly thought to herself as she placed the ring back on the table with a recorder and headed downstairs. This was it.
Carly got into her car and drove off. Just as Brie came back home.
Brie was contemplating what to say. She didn't mean to run away when Carly proposed, it was just that she didn't know what to say. She didn't want to say no cause she loved Carly but she couldn't say yes either. Brie just wanted to think about it.
"Carly?" Brie called out as she entered their house.
There was no response so Brie looked around the house. She took notice of a few things that were missing, mainly Carly's stuff. Brie hurried upstairs to their room. Carly wasn't there, and neither were her clothes. They were all gone.
Brie tried calling Carly a dozen times but the other girl wasn't picking up. She sat on the bed defeated when she saw a recorder on the table. Beside it was the ring. Brie picked up the ring and read the engraving. 'Always and forever me and you.'
Brie smiled remembering Carly saying that to her when they first met. Carly had helped her deal with some bullies and she had never left her side after that. She put on the ring before playing the recorder, that's when she knew she f*cked up and that Carly was gone.
"Brie, I have loved you since I met you, I couldn't help it. You are amazing, courageous and smart, and beautiful. I remember the first time we started talking, you were the reason I got to smile again. My motivation to get up in the morning. My light in the dark.
I love you with all my heart and I tried to show you but you wouldn't let me which is fine but when you ran away from me I knew what your answer was.
I gave up smoking, I gave up everything you didn't like and I'm happy that I did. It's fine, and I waited and I never complained because I figured you'd love me eventually right? and I realize I'm not half good enough and I'm not this great person but I was there for you and I loved you.
I'm sorry I couldn't make you feel the same way. I'm sorry you couldn't see me the way I see you. And I'm sorry for leaving when I promised I would stay but I can't stay anymore so please don't look for me.
Gods, what am I even saying, this is stupid. You'll probably just throw the recorder away and sell the ring. I just wanted to say sorry for wasting your time.'
As the recorder stopped playing, Brie had tears in her eyes. Was this really how Carly felt? How come she didn't see it? How come Carly didn't say anything?
Brie tried calling the girl again and again but there was still no answer. Brie didn't want to give up but Carly wouldn't answer. Nathan! That's it! Nathan was Carly's brother. As the phone rang, Brie couldn't help but pray that he would pick up, and gratefully he did.
"Nathan! Where is Carly? Please I need to talk to her." Brie pleaded with him.
"Talk? There's nothing to talk about!" Nathan was practically seething. "You hurt my little sister! You don't deserve her or the love she gave you! I never want to see you near her again or I--"
Nathan was cut off. Brie didn't know what was happening but her heart jumped when she heard Carly's voice.
"Brie, stop calling." It was evident that Carly was crying on the other line. "I'm done. I'm done trying to get you. I'm done loving you. I'm done being there for you."
Brie's heart broke at her words but she needed to talk to her. "Please, Carly! I didn't know. Please just come back to me. I'll be better! I'll do better! Just come back!"
"No." Brie's body froze as she listened to Carly. "I'm tired of waiting for something that will never happen. Look, Brie, can you just forget I was there? Can you just forget that you ever met me? Forget that I was something to you because I know I was nothing. I'll do the same."
With that Carly hung up and Brie's entire world fell apart around her.
"I can't, Carly. Cause I'm in love with you."
