I never thought you'd see

I breathed, panicked, Rosanna doing her best to distract the beasts as I tried to crawl through the air ducts. She screamed, letting me know that they'd found out my little ruse, and now they would be looking for me.

I shrugged it off and kept going- my nerves already shot beyond their natural limits. I shivered, feeling a chill as my shadow slid away from me- towards the light instead of away from it. I looked ahead, seeing a vent grate and leaping for it- falling through it seconds before the thing that lived in those ducts caught me. I looked up and saw the stage- my goal- mere feet away. I shot forward, slipping under the curtain and hiding behind it as I tried to catch my breath.

I relaxed slightly, and looked at the stage, freezing as I saw him. My brother was sitting on a stool, hands held out to the sides by strings and his form limp and covered in shadow. I felt my breath catch, and I surged forward, hugging him before lifting his face to see if he was okay.

My tears weren't enough to stop me from seeing the dried blood on his face or the wires that had been shoved under his skin- the worst two things being the metal plate welded and screwed into his cheek bones, and... the eyes having been scooped out. I saw the slit throat next and stared until the curtain rustled.

I whipped around, arms trembling as I saw Lyra the lion make her way nimbly towards me. She screeched in victory, finally about to conquer me- their human opponent; the one person to keep them at bay for an entire week during their feeding season. But unfortunately for Lyra, I wasn't me anymore.

After a week of constant fear, almost no sleep, hallucinations, exertion almost all the time, lying to my neighbors, running away from my neighbors, feeling the tortures my brother was put through daily, excessive bleeding, multiple injuries, and now my brother- the only reason I'd been willing to suffer any of this bullcrap in the first place; the slim chance that I might save him being crushed after seeing him not being alive- seeing him being dead.... I snapped.

I felt some wet, slimy /thing/ caress my cheek and ear as I let out a hellish scream of my own and charged her. She froze, confused, and I ripped off her arm, sending metal, wires, and oil flying everywhere. She screamed, trying to attack me, but I dodged her hasty swing and wrenched her other arm off, beating her head off of her body in a single swing with that very arm. Sparks jolted the downed beast and I saw a pool of red near its head. I went over and tasted the liquid- the blood making my vision go red. I turned, dashing out of the curtains as my exhaustion vanished.

I screamed, and ran towards the giant squirrel I saw, brutally ripping it apart before it could react. I drank this ones blood in an almost sadistically joyful way, ducking a blow from behind before jumping over and behind the offending wolf. I screeched, tackling him as we wrestled. I couldn't overpower it, so I did the second best thing- I bit a chunk out of it. I felt the slimy, squishy, wet thing slowly start to enter my ear, and screeched in fury; my strength from rage allowing me to bite off its face plate. It's blood squirted out at me and I drank it, my strength growing with every drop while it grew weaker.

I hissed, looking around as I sought out the remaining two demons that had angered me. They would pay, and I would destroy them so completely that they would never even know the pain. The tongue jerked out of my ear, a creature screeching as Rosanna yelled from the effort of pulling it off of me. I turned and she froze, the bloody faced, tall, pale /thing/ she'd been holding breaking free and launching itself back at me with long, slimy tongue extended.

I howled, launching at it and tearing into it with claws that had ripped out of my fingers to replace the simple, human nails. No, I wasn't human anymore, and I had prey to hunt. I dashed out, not bothering with the creatures blood- I didn't care enough. I had two that needed killing.

Rosanna called after me, her form fading as the sun began to rise. I found the last two in her closet, backed into a corner. The bear didn't last long, blood from it's skull delicious and giving me their thoughts. I heard the man beast hybrid beg- but it was /far/ too late. I ripped it to shreds, drinking it's remains as I finished changing. I was pale, tall, and my claws and fangs would scare most- my demonic eyes would scare the rest. I watched Rosanna get pulled into her wall, and then everything blurred before I was alone again, and Rosanna slowly began to peel out of the wall.

I left, hissing as I searched for something to tear apart. I felt something worm its way into my ear, and suddenly I couldn't move.

"Now, you go to sleep, and when you wake up- you live, and we escape with you."

I screeched in fury before everything went black.

When I woke up, I was looking at my hand, trembling as I tasted blood. I heard the door slam and looked at my... brother. Alive.

"It... I-It almost g-got in..." he said, face pale as a sheet. The security guard was straining against the board like he had that... first night. I was back to when this nightmare had begun- I could avoid it entirely... But I wasn't sane enough to do /that/ anymore. I slammed my brothers hand against the button again, making him cry out in agony as I heard a crunch. My pinky throbbed, so I'd broken my hand, but his only looked slightly dislocated. I screeched in challenge, before diving onto the hybrid, ripping his head off before the shock had time to wear off. I got up and kicked just as the wolf came running, slamming itself into my leg. There was another crunch, and a crack, and I dove on it, ripping off it's head and downing it's blood in one go.

I howled, eyes glowing as I stood and ignored the fracture in my leg to throw myself at the squirrel as it started to get up- just after escaping the vent into the room. It died quickly, and several cracks later, I was whole. I threw myself out into the outside, quickly finding and shredding the remaining two demons.

I returned to the guard room to finish off the humans, only to find the pale man and... more pale men in the room already holding them. They lifted the filthy creatures threateningly and spoke. "Leave, or we kill them. Do you want your brother to die again?" I ignored him and focused on his delicious throat- his screaming as I sank my fangs into his neck and pulled his blood into me. I could feel the darkness now, and I was suddenly at another's neck, draining it too.

I felt myself grow fuzzy and distant, but I couldn't stop- still so many to kill... I snapped the necks of the remaining three as they tried to flee, draining them and then returning to the humans. I was an aura of fear, a ghost in the shadows- the image at the edge of your vision that always stays /just/ slightly out of sight. I was pain and suffering, and a hunger for blood so profound I forgot everything including my brother. I was now a true demon- in the most literal sense. I killed the guard, snapping his neck. I pulled his head to my mouth as I turned on Paul- the name echoed in my head- who was shivering against the wall in a corner.

I got right up next to his face- feeling his fear and heat, smelling his fear and urine, tasting his tears as I licked his face. He tasted divine- so I finished off the guard before enjoying my meal with Paul. This made me scream, as I felt myself fully fuzz- and then it was gone. I dove at him, but went right through, and then Rosanna gasped, falling to the floor and coughing as her body formed from dust after decades. She looked at Paul, at my screeching, howling form, and she seemed confused.

We all were, until me and Paul- at the same instant- remembered one old saying. "The very worst demons are inside of us- only a fool thinks demons walk the earth. They plague the mind and soul." I was now Rosanna and Paul's personal shadow- their hallucination that would torture them for the rest of their lives... I howled in rage and despair- as did Paul.

What else do you do when possessed by the demon of insanity and despairing rage?

________________________________________________________________________________(A/N) I can't believe I cranked this thing out. I've had this ending in my head for a while, so I'm glad Cass gave me a reason to write this. It' been a while since I visited the Simon universe. It's far from a finished draft(not even edited all that much) but It's coherent and good enough for me! I think!

... So...

Enjoy! \(^D^)/
