Brandon
A buizel looked out the window on one rainy day, feeling cold. He didn't bother to get a blanket, wanting to feel something. He watched the rain strike the window with a loud pitter-patter like small stones hitting the thin glass. Deep blue almost black eyes looked at the world with dead eyes, only his breathing telling anyone that looked at the window he was alive, to begin with.
"Brandon? You okay up here?" a voice asked. The buizel, Brandon it seemed, turned around to look at a Floatzel standing in his room doorway. "Yeah, I'm fine Jessie," Brandon replied, looking back out the window, his voice just above a whisper, not having the energy for much else. Jessie, properly known as Jessica, looked at her brother before leaving, thinking he needed his space.
Brandon closed his eyes as he leaned against the glass, the cold material almost like ice. Brandon rested his arms on the windowsill, his breath misting on the barrier as he closed his eyes, thinking slowly to himself. "Is there even a point to me being here?" Brandon thought, opening his eyes again to see himself looking at him. A skinny Buizel looked back at him, barely had any meat on him, fur and bones it seemed. "Brandon, dinner," a voice yelled from downstairs, one laced with hope. "The lasagna is ready," it finished, naming Brandon's favorite dish when his mom made it.
Brandon's stomach jolted at the thought, making him double over in pain, arms holding his stomach tightly. He could only gag, nothing coming up other than bile, making his throat burn. He collapsed on the ground, falling out of his seat, groaning, just loud enough for the voice downstairs to hear him. Brandon's vision was flickering as a Floatzel raced up the stairs, his hearing leaving him as she seemed to be screaming, running to him as he closed his eyes, feeling ease fill him.
A smile covered his face, something that never crossed it ever since he was 13, three years ago. He felt something get pressed against his lips after Arceus knows how long. He tasted a warm liquid that made him gulp it down eagerly, his eyes jolting open as he took the container from what was holding it, downing the rest of it with ease.
Only when he finished did he realize where he was. A plain white wall was in front of him, only a T.V on the wall as decoration and a small vase of roses on a small table, the smell of bleach heavy in the air. He looked down at himself as he held the cup tighter, tears starting to fall when he saw the hospital gown. "Brandon," a voice said, making Brandon flinch visibly, making him cry harder. "Mom... I am so sorry," Brandon said, shaking violently.
A floatzel was sitting next to him, her eyes tear streaked and bloodshot from all the crying she must have done. "Brandon, my baby, my sweet cub," Brandon's mother, Lisa, said, taking Brandon in a deep embrace, his skinny body wrapped completely by hers as she began to cry again, sobbing into his shoulder lightly. Brandon felt guilty, beginning to cry too at the pain he caused, not wanting to make that same mistake again. "Mom, I am so sorry," Brandon said again, meaning it.
Only when they both recovered did they talk, Brandon mumbling everything that he said, only his mother understanding what he would say when he talked like that. "Brandon, your father won't care about you being gay. He will accept it, I promise," Lisa said, making the Buizel look at her, startled, almost passing out. "Your internet history told me," Lisa said, chuckling lightly. "I don't care what you do with your life, but if it makes you happy, then I am happy, you got that?" Lisa said, making Buizel smile consciously, tears in his eyes as he nodded his head. "Though, I have to say, starving yourself? Really? And here I thought my cooking was horrible," Lisa said, making Brandon feel a small stab of guilt, but he laughed, disagreeing with her statement. "I couldn't eat, sorry," Brandon replied, looking down, his voice low.
"Brandon, if you were going through something, you could have just talked to me. You know you can talk to me about anything, you know that, right?" Lisa asked, making Brandon nod again. Lisa kissed his forehead, telling him that she had to go back to work, having visited him during her lunch hour. "Oh, someone left this for you, don't know who, only that he was a classmate of your's," Brandon's mother said, making Brandon look at her weird as he took the small voice recorder, holding it in his paws as his mother left.
With nothing else to do, Brandon pressed the 'play' button. "Hey, Brandon, right? Wow, I must be an even bigger idiot to dare give this to you then I thought, expecting you to answer that," a voice said, laughing nervously. Brandon was well more than confused now, almost tempted to stop the recording and throw it away. "I-I just wanted to let you know that you have caught my eye. The way you look at school has concerned me, and I know that Halloween is several months away from now, so that skeleton look is not appropriate. I missed the way that you would be happy in class, the way that you would smile, talk with the few friends you stayed with, it makes me sad to see you with those lifeless eyes, your demeanor has affected me too, okay," the voice continued- was that a sniffle Brandon heard at the end of that? Or was his hearing still not there yet?
"I love you, Brandon, and I always have, ever since we had Choir together in the first semester. I am sorry if you never knew, but I was scared to tell; you were way too cute to be single. I wish I could talk to you in person, but this is all I can do without breaking down in nerves, and waking up the whole hospital as a result," the voice continued, shocking Brandon. It was a guys voice that played, making Brandon's mind whirl as he struggled to remember who it was.
He came up with nothing, not having a very good memory.
"So, I wish to give you a small gift, to hopefully bring you back to who you were back then. So, sit back and listen," the voice said. Brandon laid back as he held the tape recorder in his paws. To his complete shock, music began to play from the tape recorder, a song, unlike anything he had ever heard before.
I've seen that look before,
I've worn it all too well
It's hard to comprehend
how far that I have fell
But I have found a place
that I can call my own
And I could take you there
Why should you be alone?
No need to hesitate,
What are we waiting for?
I know you are what I am looking for
Brandon could feel the pure emotion coming from the tape radiating like a ball of candlelight, making his eyes water with guilt. It was clear he had caused this Pokemon emotional pain. He smiled when the song got brighter, making him laugh lightly.
Oh, baby,
Tear down the night sky
and I'll save you
From your mundane life,
yeah I'll hold the door
You take the stage light,
Have you wanted more?
Brandon couldn't help but close his eyes, imagining a Pokemon sweeping from his bed, taking him away from all his troubles and making him feel happy again.
Tear down the night sky
and I'll save you
From your mundane life,
yeah I'll hold the door
You take the stage light,
Cause I've found the cure
Brandon smiled again, imagining the mystery admirer dancing the night away with him at some apartment, just the two of them to take on the world.
You're what I'm looking for
Now if we stay right here,
We'll always be this young
I'll never leave your side,
We'll never have to run
And I can feel your heart,
as you lay by my side
Your eyes are all I know,
This world where I reside
No need to hesitate,
What are we waiting for?
I know
You're what I'm looking for
Oh, baby,
Turn down the night sky
and I'll save you
From your mundane life,
yeah I'll hold the door
You take the stage light,
Have you wanted more?
Bradon began to cry, hiccuping happily, thinking that whoever it was thought highly of him, wanting to give him the world at his whim.
Turn down the night sky
and I'll save you
From you mundane life,
yeah I'll hold the door
You take the stage light
Cause I've found the cure
You're what I'm looking for
And I can be your light
When all you know is fear
Brandon let his tears fall freely, sobbing in joy at the promises this Pokemon was making,
And I can take you there,
And I can take you there
And I can lift you up
far from these fallen tears
And I can take you there,
And I can take you there
Why should we hesitate,
What are we waiting for?
And I can take you there,
And I can take you there,
And I can take you there
Oh, baby,
Tear down the night sky
and I'll save you
From your mundane life,
yeah I'll hold the door
You take the stage light,
Have you wanted more?
Tear down the night sky
and I'll save you
From your mundane life,
yeah I'll hold the door
You take the stage light,
Cause I've found the cure
You're what I'm looking for
Yeah, you're what I'm looking for.
The music faded into silence as Brandon silently cried to himself, unable to believe this was happening, wanting nothing more than to meet this Pokemon, to tell him he felt the same way. "Brandon, maybe one day I will step forward and tell you who I am, but for now, just know that I love you, now and for evermore," the voice said before the tape ended, leaving Brandon smiling as he cried, happy to know that someone out of his family cares for him.
