"I don't get Chemistry," Noboru stated, frowning upon his test paper.
"Come on. It's actually easy if you think about it." You placed your hand on his shoulder.
"Easy for you to say. You aced the paper. You aced Chemistry," the yellow haired boy gestured with his hands.
"Probably why you haven't had a girlfriend yet," you mumbled to yourself.
"What?"
"Nothing. An inside joke, that's all," you shrugged while giggling.
"Well then tell me," he snatched your test paper from your hands, scrutinizing your every answer to every question.
"Basic oxides? Ionic equations? Limewater? How do you understand all of this?" Noboru exclaimed in disbelief. You shrugged again.
"I don't. It's kind of like common sense to me," you plucked the paper out of his hands. "Maybe you lack some of it."
"I do not!" He stood up in anger, slamming the palms of his hands onto the table.
You sighed. "It was just a joke. Jeez, can't you take a hint? Whatever," you stood up and proceeded to pack your belongings.
"W-wait [Name] I-" the yellow haired boy began.
"See you later." You closed the classroom door behind you. Slamming things weren't your style anyway, unlike some people.
Walking with pocketed hands, thoughts consumed your mind. Peculiar, you hear yourself think. He usually isn't like this. Did something happen that I was unaware of?
Stepping out of Aibo Academy, you inhaled deeply as oxygen filled your chest. Grass patches never seemed to dull after a day at Aibo. In fact the colour seemed to pop at you. Internally making a beeline for [F/c], you began your slow stroll. Earbuds playing a rather repetitive song and the September wind roaring against your face, you couldn't help but smile. You smiled at the little things that at first doesn't seem to be worth bothering about.
You tapped in sync with the song, making sense of the lyrics instead of just listening to the music. Your head swayed ever so slightly to the tempo while your feet walked on, never missing a beat.
Eventually you reached [F/c]. Nothing too special. You sat near the window, furthest from the door. After ordering your food, you tapped to a different song.
"Chemistry is like a puzzle - the question gives you a piece of it to go find the rest of it."
"But isn't that like all the other subjects?" Noboru raised his hand and queried the teacher.
"It's like many things, young Noboru. But to the discerning few, no."
"What does that even mean?" Noboru raised his hand again.
"Young Noboru, do you have a girlfriend?" The chemistry teacher asked.
Taken aback, he shook his head in embarrassment while the class laughed.
"Do you want to know why? Because your chemistry is weak, especially with girls," the teacher finished, smiling to herself. "Class dismissed."
You chuckled at the recount as your food arrived on time. Table service was the best way to go. The doorbell rang as you took a sip of your drink and opened your Chemistry textbook. Increasing the volume of the music played, you began to take notes.
An hour has passed since you've started and you've began to crave for more food. At least I know I've actually studied, you thought.
Approaching the counter, you opened your mouth to order.
"Oh, table service will be with you shortly. Your food have been covered for you," said the kind cashier.
Surprised, you returned to your table. Sure enough, table service came promptly. But not what you had expected it to be.
"Noboru? You work here?" You said, shocked.
"Part-time, yeah. [Name], I want to make up for earlier. Please accept my apology." Noboru held a tray of food and your favourite beverage; [F/d]. You took a sip of [F/d] while Noboru set down the tray of food next to your things.
"Is this your apology?" You looked at him quizzically.
"No," your friend leaned in. "This is." He kissed you slowly, his hand trailing down to hold yours while one held your cheek. It was sweet but short - you pouted when he pulled away, only for you to pull him back by his sleeve. You blushed and looked away, not letting go of Noboru's shirt.
"I get it - you like me too, don't you?" Noboru smirked. His shoes suddenly became very interesting and you decided to stare at them very intently. He stepped closer to you, making you flinch and burn up even more. Then he wrapped his arms around you, holding your close.
"How's that for Chemistry?" Noboru whispered. You rolled your eyes.
"Noboru! Quit the mushy stuff and work the barista!"
Pulling away, he said, "I've got to get back to work. Promise to tutor me?"
"On weekdays? Sure. Just keep the food coming."
"Got it boss."
