Passion and Pain
Side note; me and my sis changed a couple of names. Dark Magicson sounded a bit weird and childish in our opinion, so we changed it to Draven Agnar. I changed those things in the last couple of chapters as well :3
Also, Jax's last name has been changed to Solis.
That's about it I think :)
This one is a piece of backstory of our favorite purple-eyed sweetheart AKA Jax.
Oh and Ace. Who is his brother and who I definitely did not forgot to mention in the chapter I had Jax killed woooppss
The title is from the song 'The great escape' by P!nk, because I thought it was fitting for this chapter :3
I hope you enjoy this one! I wrote the first part quite a long time ago and have been wanting to finish it for quite a while, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!
TW; angst, violence, evil in general, lil bit of blood and the four lettered D-word (not dick ew you dirty-minded people, get some holy water >:( )

Zachary Solace liked to think he was not a bad person, but he felt like that was a big lie. He'd blown every chance of being good when he started working for Draven Agnar.
His boss was a very cruel man, if you could even call him one. Zachary thought him more of a heartless monster, who didn't care about anyone or anything.
Well, apart from his youngest son, Devil. What a little spoiled brat that was. That kid could get everything he wanted at any time.
When he first started working for Draven, he actually thought he was nice. How naïve he had been back then, he thought as he rolled his auburn eyes. He knew better now, but it was too late to get out of the hole he dug himself. A small part of him didn't even want to.
Draven Agnar had three sons, Devil Agnar and Jaxon and Ace Solis. Devil was, and always has been, the favorite. Jaxon was the most hated for some unknown reason, and Ace, well, he was basically just there because he was 'useful'.
Jaxon was also the one Zachary had to make sure stayed alive, without making his life 'too comfortable' as Draven had put it. Since he liked to use him as his personal punching bag, Jaxon got injured a lot, and often needed some patching up to make sure he stayed somewhat alive.
Zachary rather liked Jaxon. He was still kind-hearted and not afraid to sass people, despite getting punished for it more than often than not. He'd just mumble 'worth it' and take the beating. He admired the positive- and stubbornness in the young man, which resulted in Zachary starting to care for him.
At some point, it led to him getting sick of just following orders of the mad-man constantly. He had had enough, so he started bringing Jaxon extra food and patched him up with more care, while still managing to keep a low profile.
And when Jaxon asked him to sneak some food to his brother (Ace, mind you), well, who was he to refuse?

They sometimes had a chat about Zachary's old life, with Jax often asking about the world. He'd asked once if everyone was as evil as Draven was.
"Definitely not! The most are lovely, really," Zachary had assured him. "If you're lucky, you'll maybe even fall in love, little dragon." He winked and smiled when Jax's eyes had lightened up with hope.
Jax had sighed dreamily and told him he'd love to experience that one day, to which Zachary had ensured him that he would.
The months flew by, with the two becoming good friends. Zachary often stopped for a chat, not staying long enough to get caught, but long enough to teach Jax a good few things. In the meantime, he had started on a plan to help Jax and Ace escape. To get them both to experience an actual life.

Unfortunately, perfect plans are never perfect, and secret exits are never secret.
The first part went as smoothly as it could have gone. He got Ace out fairly easily, killing the guard in front of the door and hiding the body. He gave Ace a quick summary of the plan; get Jax out, find the secret exit he'd found and run for their lives.
They got to Jax and this time Ace was the one killing the guard, while Zachary went in and found Jax sitting on the ground, head tilted in confusion.
"Zach? What's going on?" He asked, a sliver of fear in his voice.
Zachary knelt in front of him and reached out to ruffle Jax's black hair. "I'm getting you out, little dragon. Just as I promised."
"Wh- "
"No time to explain, we have to move." Zachary said and looked behind him.
"Uh, okay." Jax nodded determinedly and got up slowly, wincing. "Dang, of all the days he could have targeted my legs, he had to do it today."
Zachary gently took one of Jax's arms and put it over his shoulders. Together, they met Ace at the door, who was looking around concerned. Jax perked up noticeably at the sight of his brother.
"We have to move, now. We don't have long until they figure out something is wrong." Ace said grimly.
The three of them moved quickly and efficiently through the badly lit corridors. They occasionally had to strike down one of Draven's minions, but there were few of them.
Very few.
They made it to around three fourth of the route, when Ace suddenly halted. He put his finger against his lips and closed his eyes. They soon snapped open and he whirled around.
"We have to pick another way, Draven is at the exit you had planned for us to use, with a lot of backup. His mind does not sound happy." He shivered. "Is there another way for us to get out?"
Zachary's mind flashed through all of the exits he had seen in the last years of him working in this place. There was one they could try, but there was no guarantee they would make it before the others...
He grit his teeth, there's no other way.
"I know one we could use, this way!" He turned right and walked as fast as he could with Jax at his side. The sound of running footsteps followed soon after they switched route. Zachary was almost certain they wouldn't make it. They needed more time, just a little more time.
The footsteps sounded closer and closer as they attempted to get to the last thing standing between them and freedom. They were almost there, just one more turn and-
Zachary stopped, he'd get them the extra time they needed. He quickly put Jax's arm around his brother's shoulders and gave them a soft smile. He unsheathed his sword and took on a fighting stance. "Get your asses out of here, I'll stall them for a bit. I'll find you afterwards!"
Jax turned to him sharply, purple eyes wide with panic. "You won't be able to defeat them, they'll outnumber you!" He shook his head furiously. "You have to come with us! Please," His voice broke and tears welled up in his eyes. "please come with us."
Zachary's eyes softened. "I'll be fine, little dragon. Just make sure you both get out safe, alright?"
Jax let go of Ace and stumbled over to Zachary, who caught him and enveloped him in a hug. "Promise me you'll find yourself a family, alright?" He whispered, running a hand through Jax's hair. "Friends who'll be there for you no matter what."
"O- Okay, stay safe please." Jax said and let him go.
"Take care of him for me, will you Ace?" Zachary grinned.
"Of course I will, you take care too." Ace said, a sad look on his face.
"Sure, sure. Now get out of here, they'll be here any minute!" He waved them away and turned to the hallway in front of him, swallowing nervously.
"Zach," Jax's voice sounded from somewhere behind him. "Thank you for everything."
"No problem at all, you're my little dragon after all." He shot them a wink over his shoulder.
The two turned around and took off again, Ace sending him a knowing look. He watched them go until they were out of sight. He knew there was no chance in hell he would make it out of this alive, but it would all be worth it in the end. They would get a chance at a life, he assured himself, they would both be happy.
That didn't make this less terrifying though.
Then the sound of approaching footsteps interrupted his thoughts, he took a deep breath and got ready. Draven was the first to round the corner, looking absolutely murderous.
"I will ask you this once, where are my sons Solace?!" He snapped as soon as he stopped in front of Zachary, towering over him and black eyes sparking dangerously.
Zachary raised his eyebrow, feigning confidence. "How would I know? I haven't even been near their 'rooms'." He cocked his head thoughtfully. "How did you even miss them escaping? I thought you were all knowing and stuff."
Draven snarled. "I most definitely didn't miss their pathetic escape attempt." He scoffed. "In fact, one of my followers informed me that you, Solace, were the one to start this whole idea in the first place. So naturally, we set up at the exit, only to discover that you took a different route." He turned his murderous gaze towards the person next to him, who was trembling furiously.
"Weren't you the one to tell me that, Nolan?" He asked, voice as sweet as honey. Zachary almost felt bad for this Nolan-guy.
"Ye- Yes boss. I- I swear he-he said they were using that ex-exit!" The guy stammered, pupils blown wide in fear.
"Well, it appears you were wrong." He paused. "Everyone makes mistakes I suppose." Draven shrugged and waved Nolan away. Nolan let out a relieved sigh and started making his way to the back of the group that had gathered around them.
Draven let out a shrill laugh and Nolan froze. "Unfortunately, mistakes are unacceptable under my command."
Almost immediately a pitch-black spike shot out of his hand and hit the trembling Nolan in the back, blood caking the floor in no time. Draven dusted off his hands and looked around. "Anyone else? I feel like I'm forgetting someone..." The crowd shrunk back a bit and Draven pretended to think. "Oh yes. You." He growled, turning to Zachary.
Another black spike shot towards Zachary, who yelped but teleported to the left. He hoped Ace and Jax had had enough time to get to a safe place.
"I forgot you could do that, you're quite the troublesome little menace, aren't you?" Draven snarled and hurtled another spike at him. Zachary ducked and got closer to Draven, trying to land a hit on his arm. He was forced to retreat, however, as Draven used a cloud of darkness to throw him off guard.
Zachary coughed and squinted, trying to find the maniac. Small black needles hit his cheek and cut it open, small droplets of blood dripping from his face. He backed up, trying to find his way out of the tightly packed darkness. After a while of attempting to dodge attacks, he had small cuts everywhere and he was getting exhausted of jumping back and forth. The blackness finally dissolved and he could see again.
Draven took advantage of him being disoriented and threw more spikes at him. Zachary jumped out of the way a bit too late and got hit in his leg. The pain shot up his leg like fire, and he had to use every ounce of energy he had left to stay on his feet. He bit his tongue hard enough to make it bleed, the coppery taste being strangely grounding.
As one last attempt at defeating Draven, Zachary teleported to right behind his opponent. He raised his sword to run him through, only to get dozens of black needles embedded in his sword arm. He dropped his sword and clutched his arm, hissing in pain.
Draven turned around let out a disbelieving laugh. "Did you really think I would fall for such a stupid trick?" He fired more spikes at him and Zachary tried teleporting away, but found himself unable to move. One of Draven's minions had his arms outstretched and kept him firmly in place. The spikes penetrated his clothes and shoulder, nailing him to the wall behind him. He swallowed a cry of pain and gave Draven a defiant look.
Draven slowly made his way over, patting the telepathic being on the head once, and roughly grabbed Zachary's face.
"Oh, I'm going to enjoy killing you. Slowly and painfully I think." He said, his mouth twisting into a cruel grin.
"At least you won't find Jax and Ace." Zachary spat, breathing hard. His leg and shoulder were throbbing and he was having a hard time staying conscious, the blood loss making his mind fuzzy.
"Who says I won't?" Draven rolled his eyes and formed a spike in his other hand. "Now, where were we? Ah yes." He hovered it over his captive's chest, his eyes holding a maniacal glint. "Try not to move too much, will you?"
As the spike slowly dug into his flesh, Zachary screamed.

As you can probably guess, it didn't end well for my boy Zachary :/
Tell me if you'd like more of Jax's backstory, I'd definitely be up for it!
If so, the next part will most likely pick up where this left us.
