Chapter 22 - Floof!
---Milo's POV---
My nostrils flared as I came down the stairs, wolf instantly on high alert and seeking out Felix. Usually he was in our room, staying with me until I woke up but today I woke to him not being there.
I nearly slipped as I landed with force on the carpet down the stairs, skidding a few inches before managing to stay upright. A few eyebrows raised and grins slowly spread but I didn't pay them any mind.
Felix...
Dizziness filled my body as my heart raced at the lack of Felix, leaving me to wonder if his parents came back and took him away from me. A low snarl slipped my lips before I relax when I skidded into the kitchen, blushing as Felix looked up from the table with a questioning look on his face.
Swallowing heavily, I walked closer, cuddling into the crook of his neck and inhaling deeply to calm myself down. He was safe. He was still here. I felt a gentle tap on my arm, making me look up in Felix' stunning eyes and smiled when he didn't even need to ask.
I was curious though why he came down here on his own. As he pushed his seat back a bit, I instantly noticed he was donned in a big sweater, shivering slightly. The second I saw him shiver and heard the barely audible sound of his teeth clicking together, my wolf responded.
Felix sighed the very instant my arm wrapped around him, nuzzling my bare shoulder and curling up in my lap. A low growl resonated through my chest as his cold nose pressed against my skin, my wolf unhappy with our mate being so cold.
Why was he feeling so cold?
I lapped at his cheek and nuzzled in his hair, trying my best to cover him up and keep him warm. To be honest, Felix looked absolutely miserable, drowning in the sweater that was easily three sizes bigger than him. He shivered and curled up even more, pulling his knees underneath the sweater as I held him in my arms.
The chair across from us scraped over the floor and I growled, eyes zoning in on Marcus as he held up his hands. Marcus' eyes flicked to the side, where Alpha Lee was standing on the phone , motion with his hands in what seemed to be a heated conversation.
I could barely catch enough of the conversation to make sense, only hearing something about the odds being a thousand to one if it happened. If what happened? What was wrong with Felix?
My wolf felt agitated, growling and panting at everyone. All my senses were on high alert, wondering what the hell was going on and why nobody was explaining anything. Why weren't they helping Felix?
Nudging against Felix' mind, I initially felt nothing but a sense of confusion and cold before a small hint of pain bloomed in his stomach. Marcus sighed as I nuzzled Felix and whined, feeling as miserable as he was feeling, knowing I couldn't help him in any way.
"We don't think it's his Heat." Marcus spoke softly, lowering his voice as Felix whined at the sound. Even Alpha Lee flinched before backing out of the doorway, the sound of a door closing cutting off his muted conversation.
He didn't continue, simply stared at Felix with curiosity and shock. I bared my teeth, unable to use sign language to ask him so I grumbled and managed to growl out, "What!"
It was enough to make Marcus look up in shock, eyebrows raised in surprise as I barely ever spoke. My wolf was used to be in charge and thus, I hardly used words. Even with Felix, sign language was preferred over talking, if we didn't use our unique link in the first place.
Marcus simply sighed as he raised his hands once more, as if in a sign of surrender or defeat. "We can't know for certain, Alice is looking things up while Alpha Lee is trying to find other packs that have a similar case like this." The sound of furniture breaking and glass shattering made everyone cringe.
"I'm guessing Lee didn't have much success." Sebastian muttered before looking down at Felix, or rather what was visible of him. My poor mate was curling up more and more, hiding his face in the crook of my neck as I held him and whimpered along with him.
A small groan left Felix as he shivered, panting slightly. I sighed as he warmed up slowly but surely, only to frown and yelp when his body heated up more than it should.
"Milo..."
It was just my name but it was enough to pull Felix against me and standing up, wolf howling in pain at the sight of our mate so miserable. Yet, instinct was also pressing me to put Felix down. I didn't care for my clothes, shifting the second Felix was down on the floor and nuzzling into his body.
He curled around me, burying his face in my fur as I felt him shiver and groan. His fingers sifted through my fur as I whined, licking the tears of his face. The pain he was feeling echoed through my own body, webbing down our spine and centering in the pit of our stomachs.
"What the fuck?!"
Thundering footsteps resounded throughout the house at Marcus' stunned shout, luring everyone to our position but I ignored them. My eyes widened in awe while my wolf went crazy, whimpering and cringing in sympathy when I heard the first crack resound through the air.
Felix' pained scream pained me more than I'd ever imagine, especially when he tossed his head back, clawing at my fur as his bones started snapping more rapidly.
"This...this is...Impossible! Felix is human!"
Terrance snorted at Lee's comment before retorting, "Not anymore, obviously." Mike shushed him before silence filled the room when Felix stilled, panting and whining as his limbs trembled. I was pushed to the back of my mind as my wolf stood, legs trembling myself as he sniffed and nuzzled Felix's gorgeous new form.
How? How was this possible?
Everyone seemed to be grasping for straws but nobody could deny the truth we all saw as Felix slowly rolled on his belly, his gorgeous golden wolf shaking like a leaf in the wind.
A thousand to one... that's what that woman on the phone said.... so it had happened before? A human mate had shifted? Felix huffed before pushing up on his paws, nearly falling and flailing his legs around like a newborn foal.
"You Felix, are one rare creature. Your genes made you destined to be a werewolf's mate." Lee whispered in awe while Felix whined, blinking before his eyes found mine. I panted, wagging my tail happily as my wolf circled Felix' , rubbing ourselves against our mate from head to tail, imprinting our scent into his fur.
The tapping of soft shoes announced Alice's arrival as she was overlooking some papers. Her eyes looked up, easily finding Felix' new form before she blinked. "Oh wow. It's weird seeing it instead of reading about it."
"Lee said that Felix' genes made him destined to be a werewolf's mate?" Marcus asked as Felix started sniffing my own fur, nudging my body as he took in my scent and rested most of his weight against my side.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah. A human mate shifting is rare. I've contacted several colleagues but few of them had experienced it themselves, or even read about it in the first place. Apparently there are humans who's genes are slightly altered, making them compatible mates. Others," she added, giving a pointed look to Felix, "Have a bigger alteration to their genes and will shift when mated."
Sebastian huffed as he plopped down in the couch. "I know some doctors believe autism is genetically determined but to go as far to say that he only shifted because of his autism... that seems a bit too easy."
Their conversation became very technical, speculating about Felix' autism being the cause of his shift while Terrance pondered if Mike would ever undergo the shift or not.
We ignored them though. Felix was feeling better, his pale eyes flicking through the room, nose twitching while Marcus pointed out, "You know, Felix has always behaved more like a wolf. A true, wild wolf. His main communication is through body language and he avoid loud noises and humans in general. The only place where he felt comfortable was with Milo and with the pack."
A huff escaped my chest before I wagged, bowing through my legs to invite Felix to play. He seemed rather eager, or perhaps his wolf had taken over because before I knew it, I was tackled to the floor with Felix' body on top of me.
He gave a happy growl, jumping off and bolting for the door as I chased him. It almost reminded me of how he had playfully chased me when he first arrived here on pack territory.
And now I was chasing him, watching his gorgeous wolf bound out the door before turning around to jump at me. We yipped and huffed, wrestling and jumping around in elation. I'd never expect Felix to gain a wolf, though it didn't matter that much to me.
Even as a human, I loved him with all I was. Him becoming a werewolf like I was, didn't change a thing, only that now he could run with me.
The rest of the pack followed us outside, engaging Felix' wolf as much as they could while learning his scent and introducing themselves to his new and wilder counterpart.
I panted happily and laid down, rolling on my side as Felix instantly loped over to plop himself down beside me, rubbing his fuzzy head against my chest.
This... is perfection.
-*-*-*A.N.-*-*-*
How many of you saw this coming? I'm stunned by my own characters, as Felix just took control and made me write all this :D
Wonder if this means that Mike might shift one day too? I'll guess we'll have to wait and see. Anyways, One Pup is coming to an end, and I have a few possible mating pairs for the next book.
Now I'm gonna lay in bed and enjoy my newly acquired pollen allergy. Lovely -_-
