Chapter 21 - Getting some answers
---Zayne's POV---
It was odd how everyone kept glancing at me, watching me curiously as I tried to focus on Marcus. He was helping me getting used to my limbs with the aid of Alice, both flexing and stretching my libs as they gently forced them to fold the right way.
Hurts...
Marcus shot me an apologetic look, a hint of pain in his eyes. "I'm sorry Zayne, but we need to do this. You need to learn how to use your body correctly, we need to do this." Alice said when I whimpered softly and weakly tried to tug my hand out of her gentle grip.
I glanced at Marcus and felt a bit better at his reassuring smile before I winced in pain when Alice fully stretched my fingers. Marcus released my leg, only to grab me and pull me closer to him.
My wolf purred in delight as I gladly settled in his warm embrace, closing my eyes tiredly before I let out a lengthy yawn. Who knew you could get so tired by doing nothing at all?
Marcus chuckled along with Alice as my yawn unintentionally ended in a whine, my wolf coming out a bit. "Awe, you're so cute, Human yet still a wolf pup." Alice cooed as she clapped her hands and proceeded to make me blush again.
Averting my eyes, I caught sight of some of the pack huddled together on the far side of the living room, whispering and frowning. My head tilted to the side, curious why they were being so secretive. Logan glanced up from the conversation and grinned up at me, breaking up the conversation.
But now everyone was smiling at me!
I tried to copy their smiles but it felt awkward as hell to try and curl my lips that way. Wolves don't smile; they weren't capable to do so. But I tried anyways and it seemed that they respected my failed attempt because they were grinning back.
Marcus hugged me closer, a low growl rumbling through his chest as his cheek pressed against mine. I didn't understand why he growled but judging by the teasing looks between Logan, Dorian, Dimitri and Brandon, it had something to do with them.
A pair of whimpers drew the attention to the doorway, where Callum stepped inside, two pups in his arms that shivered and whimpered as they stared at the room. Every single wolf was staring at the pups with sadness in their eyes, a familiar look that made me swallow as it clicked.
That's how they looked when I first got here...
Callum gently placed the two pups down, and I wasn't really surprised when the pair huddled together, head to tail so they could both keep an eye on the wolves inside. Clearly they didn't trust anyone in here.
I could faintly hear Dimitri sigh as he rubbed his hand over his short hair. "This is Zayne all over again. I'm starting to get more than pissed off with this so called pack." He snarled venomously before shooting apologetic look towards the pups when they flinched and cowered away.
Licking my dry lips, I turned my head at Marcus, wondering what was going to happen to these kids. The slightly bigger pup flashed his tiny teeth in warning when Dorian shifted and walked a bit closer.
It managed to make everyone chuckle a bit, though sad sighs intertwined with the sound of amusement; its mouth was filled with baby teeth, telling us that they were still children.
Somehow, I wish I could help those two to calm down and accept this pack. Even though I was still uncomfortable around most of the wolves here, I knew that this pack was the best thing that ever happened to me, not to mention for these two kids.
As Marcus gently laid me down in the couch, Terrance stepped inside, glancing around before he cleared his throat. Marcus, Logan and Brandon all looked up before they exchanged glances.
"Hey love, try and rest a bit okay? The guys and I need to do some pack business but we'll be back soon, okay? " Marcus said while most of the wolves walked outside. As I managed a shaky nod, he stood up after gently brushing his lips over my forehead and followed the others, leaving me a blushing mess.
I sniffed the air, wondering why I smelled a faint yet familiar scent on Terrance until I sneezed and tiredly rubbed over my face. My body moved sluggishly and I nearly jolted when I felt something warm and soft gently falling on me.
My eyes snapped up to the Luna's warm brown eyes as she gave me a tender smile while draping the downy soft blanket over my still body and tucked the edges in. "Try and rest sweetie." She murmured before gently ruffling my hair. I could feel bile burn in the back of my throat as I shivered uncomfortably at the touch and she noticed, pulling her hand away with a sad smile.
With a little sigh, I laid down and closed my eyes for a moment before looking up when I heard a soft sound and spotted the two pups stalking their way towards me. Obviously they knew I wasn't a threat so they decided to huddle against the couch.
With a tired grunt, I managed to roll on my side, my arm uselessly flopping over the edge and startling the tiny pups before they hesitantly sniffed at my palm. My eyes were slowly drooping but I did hear a soft chuckle as Wyatt came to sit beside me.
The blanket dipped down and soon I felt a tiny wet nose as it nuzzled against my cheek. Prying an eye open, I let out a tiny huff as Koda wagged its tail tiredly before he cuddled closer and after Wyatt helped the two youngsters, they too quickly crawled under the blanket and settled under my arm.
Sebastian smiled down at us as he cuddled up to his mate and I could faintly hear Dylan clear his throat before he declared that he had to go punch something to feel more manly.
And then I slowly fell asleep with three pups huddled near my throat, an occasional nose bumping against my throat as all four of us fell asleep at the sound of the pack coing and chuckling softly.
---Marcus's POV---
I sighed as the door closed softly behind me, making Terrance and Logan chuckle slightly while Brandon rolled his eyes. "Mated wolves, I don't understand why you guys are glued to the hip with your mate."
All three of us rolled our eyes. "Are you kidding me? Logan asked as he glared at the younger and not to mention, unmated wolf of the bunch. Brandon chuckled as he went down the stairs first, turning around as he got to the bottom.
"I mean like, Terrance, really? First you talked about never wanting to be mated and now you're constantly around Mike? What's up with that?" Brandon inquired, making Terrance smirk lewdly.
"You mean you don't understand why I love the crazy sex and my overly horny mate?" We all smirked at that rhetorical question and Brandon nodded with a chuckle. "Good point. I'm awed that the boy can keep up with your appetite."
A deep rumbling laugh echoed through the hallway as Terrance roared in laughter. "Oh, trust me, he's not only keeping up. Darn it, now I need Mike." He grumbled while adjusting his pants, making us all laugh.
"Did you guys get anything out of him?" I asked curiously, changing the subject and Brandon scoffed. "The son of a bitch is good at avoiding the point, trying to rile us up. He thinks he can hold out long enough or that we get pissed off and kill his sorry ass."
I rolled my eyes as we pushed the door open to the highly secured rooms underneath the pack house and smiled grimly as I heard our newest guest pant harshly. He was still avoiding giving his name but luck was on our side; we could all recognize the Beta from Zayne's memories.
Glaring down at the vile man, I could see the insanity swirling in his eyes as he bared his teeth at us. But strangely, none of us could recognize him, even though Pack Law had to visit the packs from time to time for a check up.
"You thinking what I'm thinking?" I shot Brandon a look, his previously playful and goofy nature gone and replaced by a tough exterior. He nodded once, eyes flitting to the bound man before he growled lowly.
"Where is your pack?"
The beta spat at us, snarling between his bared teeth as he jerked at his chains, trying to break them. As if he'd ever could; those chains were specially made to contain a werewolf out of control. There was no escaping them or us.
Suddenly the man laughed, a deranged and awful sound that echoed in the room. "You think I'd be so stupid to betray my Alpha? My brother? Oh, you all are as stupid and dimwitted as that bitch I fathered a pup with." He bit his lower lip with a hiss, smirking at us as his eye glanced between us before settling on me.
"She was good, I give her that but so foolish. Thinking she could save that pathetic Omega? Too bad that Omega runt isn't a female because I would've got more creative with his punishments." The sick man proceeded to lick his lips before I vaulted forwards and slammed him against the wall.
My wolf was fighting for control, wanting to rip this man's throat out for even thinking about Zayne like that, for threatening to abuse our mate in the most forbidden way. My fingers were clawed as I kept a tight hold on the Beta's face,
"The pack, where is it?" I snarled, barely holding onto my wolf as it slipped through and influenced my voice, making it more gravely and angry. The beta's eyes flashed as his own wolf surged to the surface, challenging mine.
He dared to chuckle, inhaling deeply before he groaned. "That little bitch's scent is all over you. So it finally stuck its ass up like the cheap- FUCK!" He moaned in pain as I used one hand around his throat to keep him pressed against the wall, the other was claws deep into his knee.
"I'm not asking you about Zayne, the Omega you and your pack defiled and tortured on a daily basis. Give me the location of your damned pack or I swear, I'll pop your goddamned knee off." I snarled in his ear, making sure to extend my claws even more so they grazed against said kneecap.
The others behind me remained quiet, wanting the same results and knowing my wolf was within his rights to defend my mate. I even had the right to kill this pathetic and sick creature but death wouldn't be a punishment in his case.
The man moaned and whimpered as I found myself waiting too long and ground my fingers deeper into the wound. He cried out, throwing his head back as I released my toxins to make it even more painful.
"Toxins that they constantly used on our pup, on our little omega. Whatever this monster is feeling, Zayne felt it ten times worse." My wolf hissed vehemently as Terrance strolled around and chuckled darkly.
"You better do has he says man, I've never seen our enforcer this pissed off. If you think that your petty attempt of riling us up will get you killed before we got answers, you better think again." Terrance leaned down beside the sweating and shivering man, smirking devilishly.
I smirked as Terrance revealed the truth in the Beta's ear, making the man pale as his eyes filled with dread. "Don't get me wrong, you won't be leaving this room alive. But as you guessed, our enforcer is mated to the Omega you and your pack abused. And we won't stop him doing whatever he wants in his search for answers. The sooner you answer the man's questions, the better for you."
He gulped and for a moment, I was sure he was going to spill everything. But then he smirked manically and spat right in Terrance's face, making the war wolf lean back and wipe the spit off his brow.
The beta smirked, panting in pain as he glared at us. "You think I'd tell you all I know so easily? My brother could do worse than you weak dogs." He scoffed before screaming as I flicked my wrist harshly, damaging the man's knee beyond repair before standing up and glaring down at our prisoner.
"You guys continue his interrogation, I'm going to check on Zayne before my wolf comes out and rips that filth's throat out." I said through our link before turning around and going back to the living room, making sure to clean myself of any blood.
My wolf was on edge, pacing and growling, wanting to kill the Beta while we both knew we needed him alive. He was our only link to the pack so far, unless Zayne or one of those pups could tell use were to find them. And that was less than likely, knowing that they were deadly afraid of their former alpha.
As I came into the living room, my whole body relaxed at the sight of Zayne cuddled under a blanket with the three pups around him, belly up and tiny paws twitching in their sleep.
I grinned as Zayne even let out a whimper or two of in his sleep, twitching just like the wolf pups beside him did. My wolf purred contently as I stared at my mate in awe, the Beta downstairs long forgotten.
We would get answers out of that vile man one way or another, and when we did, Pack law would rush to the pack's location and make sure that what happened to Zayne would never, ever happen again.
