The First of Many
"Mellie!" called a boy swimming up to the selkie. "Wake up!"
The eighteen year old selkie looked up blearily in her room at her best friend. "What do you want Alex?" The selkie arched her back and stretched her flippers out. She swam off the bed and floated in the water next to her friend.
"It's prophecy day!" The selkie cheered.
Mellie rolled her eyes and shoved the male playfully. "It's not like we are going to get a prophecy or anything."
The boy groaned, "C'mon Mellie can't you be excited for a day. You never know." The selkie wiggled it's eyes suggestively. "Plus if you do get a prophecy you get to marry the prince." Alex swooned and fainted dramtically.
Mellie made a face. The prince was some stuck up jerk who thought the ocean belonged to him. No way she'd want to marry him.
Alex looked at her with pleading eyes. "Just pretend to be excited at least."
Millie deadpanned at Alex. "Fine." Millie let out a sigh as she swam over to her vanity and grabbed a blue scarf. After a moment of struggling, Millie managed to tie the scarf loosely around her neck. Her silky brown coat was clean and shiny.
The duo started to swim off to the Prohsea. The building where the Prophet awaited them. Every year the eighteen year old selkies were required to go to the Prohsea to see if they would receive a prophecy. That case was extremely rare, but it was tradition for the Selkie Kingdom. Both Millie and Alex turned eighteen so they both qualified to go together.
After swimming they waited outside with thousands of other selkie turning eighteen. The selkie community occupied all of the ocean in the land of Luvet.
The oceans were located in the southwestern part of Luvet. In the southeast lived the forest terrain of the White Stags. To the north east was the fiery pits of the Kitsune Clan. The northwest housed the windy skies of the Thunderbirds. And in the center of it all was the dark region of the Vampire Tribe.
The five clans were always at war with each other. Well as far as Mellie knew. Supposedly they lived in peace for quite a long time. Mellie wished it went back to that and not having to worry if the Thunderbirds would strike.
Mellie and Alex finally reached the Prohsea. They swam around a bit before joining the rest of the eighteen year olds before the gleaming pearl door that awaited them. For Mellie it seemed almost ominous. Like once she stepped inside something big would happen.
After what seemed like an hour, the doors flew open, sounding a bang. Mellie and Alex stared as the great halls beckoned them in.
