i have a lot of memories which are really important to me. but as a class of covid-19 senior still grappling with saying goodbye to the home that my high school was to me, atm it would have to be something from there.

one that comes to mind is of history junior year. that year was super rough for me for a lot of reasons, and i was having a really hard time just keeping my head above water. i'm one of those patented "good students"... 4.08 gpa, always turn my homework in, never get in trouble, ext, but i picked a really complex subject for my term paper and the night the rough draft was due, i just wasn't in a mental place to get it done. being so normally close to perfect means that a lot of the adults in my life get really mad at me for the tiniest mistakes (like that). but the next day in class, my teacher didn't give me grief or pressure me to get it in. instead, he comes over, looks at me, and asks, "you need any help?" that seems so small, but it just... meant so much. i never told him what was going on in my life and with my mental health, but i didn't have to. he could see that something was, and he always gave me the grace i needed, and i always knew he was there if i needed anything. when i did turn in the rough draft, i lost no points for being late. he taught me so many valuable lessons about good leadership, and that's why memories from that class are so important to me.
