Chapter 4
The slightly blurry memory of Steve's arms around her the night before replayed in her mind all day. She couldn't deny that she was deeply attracted to him, precisely like everyone else. But he was such a good friend to her and she wouldn't ever want to ruin that. Still, whenever she fell asleep in his arms, she felt so safe. It was embarrassing for her to even feel this way because she should be able to protect herself. Which she can, except when she's sleeping. It was as if he kept all the bad things away and she could finally relax. But she knew she had to start keeping her distance. She didn't know why but something that night made her worried. She only remember half of it, the rest is a total mess. "Hey Nat." Steve came walking inside the room with a soft smile put steady on his lips. "Where are you going? It's way too early for bingo." Natasha said with a smirk. Steve raised his eyebrows and gave her a brighter smile.
"Still going with that one huh?" He asked.
"The truth is the best, right?" She said, turning her eyes down at the book in her hands. Steve nodded slightly as he put his hands in his pockets. "Yeah, right." He simply said, thinking back of the night before when he confessed his love for her. Of course she didn't remember it and maybe it was better that way.
"I'll talk to you later." He said and Natasha looked up at him as he walked away. "Good luck with the bingo." She said and he chuckled before he walked out of the room.
"Hey Sam. Where are you man?" Steve asked over the phone.
"I might be a few minutes late. I'll see you in a bit." Sam said before hanging up. Steve sighed and sat down at the nearest bench in the park. Sam had challenged him all week. He was determined to learn how to run faster than Steve. It didn't really work as he wanted it to unfortunately. Steve took up his phone to send a message to Natasha as he heard something fall to the ground. He looked down at the ground and realised it was a keychain. He simply picked it up and looked after the woman who had dropped them. She hadn't noticed so he ran after her.
"Excuse me, miss! You dropped your keys." He said and the woman turned around. Steve got a surprised expression on his face at the sight of the woman.
"Oh, thanks. Captain Rogers." She said with a smile. "Sharon, right?" Steve asked with a smile as she nodded. "Yeah, the neighbour." She said with a soft chuckle. He nodded at the memory. "Right, well.. Have a good day." He said with a smile. "You too. And thanks again." She said as she held up the keys a bit. "No problem." He said before he walked back to his bench. He watched her walk away and was surprised to see her look back at him with a smile. He smiled back out of pure politeness and then greeted Sam who came from the same way. He put down the phone in his pocket and began his competition with Sam which he won, again. "I actually won this time." Sam claimed as he sat surrounded by some of the avengers back at the tower. "Yeah right." Natasha chuckled. "It doesn't count if you fly you know." Clint said and Sam shook his head. "I didn't." Sam said and Steve stood a few meters away with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Steve!" Sam said as he turned around to give him a glance. "Tell them I won." Natasha gave him a glance as well.
"Yeah, he actually won." Steve said as he raised his shoulders. "The truth is the best." Steve said again and looked at Natasha who grinned. "Yeah right." She said with an eye roll but the smile remained on her lips.
