Chapter 30
Steve woke up with an early sunlight filling the room with a gorgeous orange lightening. He felt a weight on his chest and looked up to see Natasha literally laying on him. Her red hair shone up even brighter by the early sun and her small hands grabbed a tight hold around Steve's chest. She was still peacefully asleep. He smiled, wrapping his arms around her, pressing her down even closer to his own body. A few seconds later, green emerald eyes looked at him and a small smile was caught on her red lips.
"Good morning." Steve whispered, turning her around a so she laid on the bed instead of on him, but he made sure to keep his arms close around her. She buried her face into his chest, hoping they could lay like this all day long. She hadn't always been the cuddly type but it was so easy to cuddle up close to his warm chest with his big arms surrounding her body. "Morning." Natasha mumbled and felt a quick kiss on her forehead before the bed suddenly got extremely cold. Natasha moaned as Steve jumped out of bed and walked over to the window. "It's such a good weather today!" Steve said exited and Natasha frowned. "Get back here you jerk." She mumbled and Steve looked at her, still smiling. "Oh come on, Nat." Steve said. "Let's get some breakfast." He said, smiling at the excellent idea he had in mind. "I'm not feeling so good today. Let's just lay here." Natasha said, burying herself in the pillow. "Don't try that one on me." Steve said chuckling. "No I really.." Natasha began but her quick steps towards the bathroom interrupted her words. Luckily, she made it to the toilet before throwing up what felt like everything she had eaten for the past year. Steve ran after her quickly, holding up her hair from her face. Worry spread in his body and he gently caressed her back. Natasha then sat down on the toilet seat, whimpering a bit but trying hard to conceal it. Steve looked at her, his blue eyes screamed with concern. "I'm okay." Natasha said as he saw his eyes. "It's probably just that sandwich I ate on the plane." She said and Steve looked at her doubtfully. "Can you give me a minute? I need to freshen up." She said and Steve nodded.
"Sure you are okay?" Steve asked and she nodded. He kissed her forehead before walking out of the room, realising he had eaten the exact same sandwich on the plane. He frowned at the thought. Was she..? No. They had been over his a thousand times. She can't get pregnant. He wanted to punch himself hard in the stomach for always thinking about it. He was completely happy with just having Natasha. She meant everything to him. He couldn't possibly ask for anything more. Not ever. But it was all of these small reminders that bugged him. His dreams, her sudden morning sickness and even a fake call from the doctor, saying that she was pregnant even though she wasn't. It was as if all the signs pointed at that direction but all of the signs must be wrong. It's didn't make sense. He sat down on the bed with his head in his hands and sighed. Natasha brushed her teeth in the bathroom for a good 7 minutes to get rid of the awful taste and washed her face with some cold water. She looked at herself in the mirror, almost seeing how her thoughts flew around her head through her eyes. What was happening to her? It felt like she was going insane. She had to stop imagining all these nonsense. At the time, she blamed everything on that stupid Dr. Davis. She felt like choking him but knew at he same time that it wasn't his fault that she got her hopes up. She decided to ignore the whole thing and walked out of the bathroom only to see Steve sitting on the bed with his head in his hands.
"Are you okay?" Natasha asked and Steve looked up at her. "Shouldn't I be asking you that?" Steve said, giving her a small smile. "I'm fine, it was probably just that sandwich. Let's go and get some breakfast." She said with a smile. Steve hesitated a few seconds before giving in. They had breakfast on a café near their hotel. They sat outside on a bench, enjoying their coffee and croissant Steve had insisted that they bought. They had a nice view over the water and it was quite romantic. "So.." Natasha said, looking at him. "What are we doing today?" She asked and Steve smiled as he saw what looked like excitement in her eyes. "I don't know." Steve said, smirking. Natasha frowned at him. "What are you talking about? You told me you had plans on the plane?" She asked and he nodded. "We do. We do have plans." He said and Natasha shook her head, not understanding what he meant. "I have planned to spend the day with you, in Venice. I think that's perfect enough." He said and Natasha smiled a bit but was still rather confused. "Right.." She said, unconsciously biting her lip. "So what do you want to do today?" She asked instead. The question made Steve smiled again. "I wanna be with you." He said honestly. Natasha shook her head but couldn't help but to smile.

If there was one thing Steve had learned through the years, never make plans for the good things. He thought planning was such a waste of time. If he had planned every minute that Natasha and himself would be in Venice, it wouldn't be as perfect as he knew it would be. Planning everything just stopped them from being spontaneous. It stopped them from adventures they hadn't been on yet. And even if he had planned everything, nothing would go according to the plans anyway. Life is funny that way. After the little breakfast at the little café they took a walk on the streets, hand in hand. Natasha felt so happy. It was so simple, but so good. She felt so ordinary, holding her loved ones hand while walking on the small streets, looking out over the water next to them. She had given the word 'ordinary' lots of thought during her lifetime. Almost everyone always seek to be odd, unique or special. But she had always been seeking the opposite. A life where she could be normal and an ordinary human being laid close to her heart. She could sometimes hint the same feeling with Steve, but he loved being who he was. She couldn't blame him though. How many people wouldn't kill to be Captain America? A pure and good man that has saved too many lives to even count. The whole world owns him a huge debt, a debt he pretends doesn't exist. He'd never take advantage of that. It's a bit different when she thinks about herself. She was born to be a spy, an assassin, a killer. She was born to kill. She had been raised to kill, but all she wanted to do was live. Somehow, that dream didn't seem as far away anymore. It almost felt as it had become reality. After all, she was living right now. She had a job, she is on vacation with her... special someone and they're walking the streets of Venice. Everything is ordinary, everything is good. A bird's annoying scream interrupted Natasha's thoughts and Steve jumped a meter away from her as a bird came flying towards his head. Natasha laughed as Steve tried to protect himself from the angry bird. Steve stood up straighter as the bird had passed them.
"You're scared of birds?" Natasha asked, still laughing. "Only when they attack." Steve said, thinking that it was an obvious answer. "They're hopeless this time of year. They protect their babies with pure anger." An old woman outside a flower shop said. Steve and Natasha tensed at the word 'babies'.
Both of them tried so wave the word away as they smiled at the woman. "We noticed that." Natasha said with a smile. "Aren't you a lovely couple.." The woman said, giving them a smile. Her smile was pretty even though she barley had any teeth left in that little mouth of hers. She had her long hair in a bun and it was obvious that she had been very beautiful when she was younger. "Wait I got something for you.." The woman said and soon handed them a small bouquet of beautiful flowers. The bouquet was a mix of roses, lilies and pretty much any flower you can think of. "Oh thank you but it's okay.." Steve began and Natasha nodded. "I insist." The woman said, handing Steve the bouquet. "At least let me pay.." Steve said and the woman shook her head firmly. "There was a time when I was in love with someone, the way you two love each other.." The woman kept talking. "And the most beautiful memories I have involve flowers." She said, smiling again. Both Natasha and Steve smiled. "Thank you." Natasha said. "Anything for a young couple like you. Your husband is a real catch you know." The woman said with a chuckle, joking even though she meant it. "Oh he's actually not.." Natasha began but Steve stepped in. "We're not married." Steve said and the woman looked at them surprised. "What a shame.. I hope you fix that problem soon." She said so seriously that it made Steve blush. Natasha just laughed. "We will." Natasha said as the old lady waved them goodbye. Steve still held the flowers as they kept walking. "We will?" He asked Natasha and she looked at him, realising what she had said. "I had to say something so she's let us go." Natasha said, trying to chuckle a bit. Steve smiled, handing her the flowers that Natasha happily accepted. Anything to change the subject was good enough.
