Chapter 3
Steve sighed a bit. Letting her words sink in. His eyes still stared into hers. She soon turned away from his stare and looked down as they kept walking. Natasha suddenly let go of Steve's arm and stopped walking.
"I'm not one to complain but I've been walking in these heels for nine hours and it's a long way to the tower." Natasha said. "And unless you want to carry me.." She continued with a smirk.
"I have no problem with that." Steve said with a small smile and she raised one eyebrow, the smirk still plastered on her lips. "Let's look for a cab." He said and she hooked her arm in his again. After a while of searching, they found a cab that could take them back to the tower. "Goodnight Nat." Steve said with a small smile as they were back at the tower.
"You're going to bed?" She asked surprised with her both eyebrows raised. "Well.. It's pretty late." He said, glancing at his watch. She breathed out a little too deep and nodded.
"Right, goodnight then Captain." She said, putting on a small smile on her lips. Steve raised his eyebrows quickly as well as his shoulders.
"Or.. I could offer you that drink." He said and Natasha looked back at him with a nod.
"Well, I guess I could skip some sleep tonight." She said as they walked towards the bar in the avengers tower. "Or every single night." She mumbled to herself in Russian.
Natasha took a sip of her drink chuckling at Steve, even though he couldn't understand what she found so funny. She clearly had had too many drinks.
"Maybe we should take this away now." Steve said, putting Natasha's glass a bit away from her. She just looked at him and smiled.
"Always looking after me." She mumbled. "That's funny." "What's funny Natasha?" Steve asked at her smiling face. "You're funny Rogers." She said as she poked him in the chest. "You with your.. Man boobs.." She said, chuckling again as she put her whole palm on his chest. Steve blushed at once and grabbed her hand. "Maybe you need to get some sleep." He said softly and she shook her head.
"No, I don't do sleep." She said in a complaining tone and Steve shook his head. "Tonight you are." He said as he helped her down from her chair and lead her to her room. He made her sit down on her bed as he went after a glass of water. When he came back to her bedroom, she sat at the exact same spot, staring down at the ground. "Hey Nat." He said softly and she looked up at him confused but smiled as soon as she realised it was him. "Hey there soldier." She said and he chuckled. "Drink this." He said and she looked at the water inside the glass.
"Did you put any poison in this?" She asked curiously and Steve shook his head. "No, of course not. It's just water." He said. She looked at him for a few more seconds before taking the glass. "I'll just take of your shoes." Steve said and bent down on one knee in front of her.
"No!" Natasha said loudly, making Steve look up at her confused. "These are my favourites." She said and Steve chuckled. "Yeah I actually think you want to take them off." He said with a smile as she took a sip of her water. Steve took her shoes off and she handed him the glass of water. He gently put it on her nightstand. As he turned around, Natasha was on her feet, struggling with the zipper on her back. "Give me a hand Captain?" She said and Steve's eyes widened a bit before he walked to her side. He put her hair on the side and slowly dragged down the zipper. Her whole, bare back was revealed and he took a deep breath before taking a step back. "Thank you." She said, still smiling. "I'll go and get.. Ehm.. Some new water and while you change." Steve said, grabbing the glass and leaving the room.
He went back a few minutes later, knocking at the door three times and waiting for her answer before he walked inside.
"Nat?" "Who is it?" She asked.
"It's Steve.." "Right." She said.
"You're dressed right?" He asked.
"Why would I be naked?" She asked confused and he stepped into the room. She sat on the edge of her bed as her dress she wore earlier that night laid on the floor. She was instead dressed in a big shirt, only leaving her legs visible. Steve put the glass on her nightstand again and smiled at her. "Will you help me with my make up?" Natasha said and he raised his eyebrows.
"Yeah, of course." He said softly.
"Take those baby wipes over there in the pink plastic thing." She said pointing on something that matched her description on a table.
He grabbed it and sat down next to her on the bed. He took one out and slowly helped her wipe away all the makeup from her face. They sat like that for a while, looking at each other in silence while Steve continued to remove the last of the makeup. He enjoyed touching Natasha's skin and tried to remove her makeup as smooth and softly as possible. Steve felt a little embarrassed though since Natasha wouldn't stop staring into his eyes.
When Steve were done, he waited for Natasha to lay down before he covered her with the blanket. He studied her face for a while, stunned by her beauty. "Goodnight Nat." He said softly as her eyes started to close. He took the opportunity and planted a small kiss on her forehead. He was just about to stand up as her hand grabbed his. He looked down at her fingers that laced together with his own. "Where are you going?" She asked quietly.
"To my room." He answered, just as quietly.
Her eyes fluttered open and he was greeted by her green eyes, filled of loneliness.
"Stay with me." She mumbled and he looked at her as she made a little room for him next to her. "But Natasha.. Wouldn't it be weird?" He asked unsure of what to do. "Why would it be weird?" She mumbled back to him.
Before Steve could say anything further, she dragged him down beside her. He had no choice but to lay down and as he did, she smiled a little. Steve tensed a bit as Natasha creeped a little closer and suddenly put her head on his chest. He wrapped his arm around her a bit, not wanting her to actually remember it. But all he wanted was to bring her even closer. "I'm sorry Rogers, but you help me sleep." She mumbled as she laid her hand in front of her face on his chest. Steve sighed a bit, now believing that Natasha only needed him for her sleep. It made sense to him, she was too extraordinary for him. But even though he felt his heart get a little heavier, he wouldn't mind helping her in any way he could. So he dragged her a little closer and as he felt the warmth from her body, he relaxed a bit. He enjoyed her head as a heavy weight on his chest and thought about dragging his hand through her hair but decided not to. He settled with wiping away a little of her red hair that had fallen in her face. "Goodnight, Natasha." He whispered softly. He heard her breaths get more quiet by the minute and it didn't take long until she was asleep. He thought about maybe going back to his room, but she held a tight grip around his stomach and would probably wake up if he tried to move. So he laid still, breathing in Natasha's smell, wishing he could spend every waken minute like this. It all became a little too much for him. Too much of it all. Too much of her for him to handle. He held her a little closer, feeling her skin under his fingers. Her body close to his. He had known it for a while. A very good while. He sighed heavily before opening his mouth. "I love you, Natasha."
