Chapter 20

Steve walked through the corridors with three other agents right behind him. They hadn't found anyone but after Natasha's sudden encounter, they walked on the tip of their toes, prepared for everything. It was a while since he had heard from Natasha but he figured she was okay. Other wise she would contact him. But maybe her earpiece broke? Maybe she couldn't contact him for a reason? His mind went blurry and he had to stop himself from thinking so much. She was fine. But still, he wanted to be sure.
"Natasha, what's your status?" He asked through his earpiece and he could almost hear Natasha's sigh and eye roll. "Still in a dark corridor that never seems to end, Rogers. Why? Did you find anything?" She asked.
"Not yet." He said.
"Then contact me when you do." She said and he nodded. He regretted that he asked her, she'd probably feel like he didn't think she could handle this alone. But still, the relief in his body made up for it. "Captain Rogers.." On of the agents said and Steve looked back at him as the agent pointed at something a few meters in front of them. Steve's eyes widened a bit as he walked towards the human on the floor, drenched in blood. There was unnecessary to check the pulse because of the amount of blood but Steve did it anyway. Just to be sure. But as he did, guns was fired and Steve was hit once in the arm before putting his shield in front of his body, shielding him from the bullets. The three agents tried to hide close to the wall as they fired their shots but one of them ended up getting shot, falling to the ground. Steve stood up and threw his shield towards the bullet sound and some of them stopped. He ran through the dark hallway and got hold of a man. He kicked the gun out of his hand and hit him down to the ground. "Natasha, I believe we have a situation." He said through the earpiece as he took down two other men.

teve kept fighting the men that came in his way but realised that it was all for nothing as they came from both ways. Steve and the two remaining agents was surrounded, surprised that the men had stopped shooting. "Lay down your weapons!" One of them screamed loudly. His voice was deep and dark with a crusty hint to it. As if he had smoked his entire life. Steve and the agent didn't have a choice but to lay down their weapons. Steve glanced over at his shield in one of their enemies arms before giving his fallen agent on the floor a look, knowing he couldn't do anything to help him.
"Follow!" The same man said and they began walking through the dark corridor, with guns pressed to every side of their bodies. Steve heard Natasha's voice in his ear but couldn't respond her. Natasha cursed as he didn't answer her and ran faster through the corridors. Steve watched the men leading them further into the building. He couldn't identify any of them. Most of them wore black clothes from their toes all the way up over their heads. Not a name or sign on their equipment. This was a real hard nut to crack, but not if you knew what group you were looking for.
After what felt like at least fifteen minutes of walking, they got to an enormous room filled with machines and other strange equipment. Light suddenly came into the room and they all had to adjust their eyes. The lamps in the ceiling lit up the room and Steve could observe it a little more. The machines wasn't covered in dust and spider web as he had thought. Instead, they were unbelievable clean. The men pushed them further into the room and Steve's eyes met a mans on the other side of the room. The man was tall with dark hair and a big scar across his cheek. He was wearing a dark blue suit but Steve could see the gun hidden inside the jacket. "Captain Rogers!" The man said, smiling brightly, reviling a set of straight perfect white teeth. "I don't believe we have met." Steve said, staring at the man.
"My apologies." He man said, walking towards Steve, stretching out his hand.
"I'm Keith. Keith X." He said, taking back his hand as Steve refused to shake it. Before Steve had time to even ask the question, it was answered. "We tend to not use our last names you see. Our family name means nothing. It's our choices that defines who we are. Not our past. Therefore the X." Keith said, nodding, as if he was proud over his words. "Impressive." Steve said, sarcastically. "I think it is. We should have right to make decisions about their own lives. Don't you agree, Captain?" Keith asked, walking around in the room a bit. Steve followed him with his eyes. "I understand that you have lots of questions. Who am I? Why haven't we killed you yet? Why are we doing this?" Keith kept talking as he walked around the room. "Well, sit down." He said, showing a few chairs by the wall. Steve shook his head. "I'm good, thank you." He said but was pushed towards the chair anyway and sat down. The two agents stood still at the spot, hold back by some men. "To begin, I'm not the one you're looking for. Too bad right? Why can't it be that simple?" Keith said, grinning. "Then who are you?" Steve asked, not looking away from the man.
"I'm just a guy who believes that in order for us to live in a good world, we must protect the important people." He said, rubbing his small beard. "People like you and me." Keith said and Steve frowned.
"Is this some racist crap?" Agent Cox asked surprisingly and Keith looked at him with a smile. "No." He said, chuckling. "I'd like to call it, a good way of life." He said with a smooth voice. "As we both know, all people aren't good people. We want to simply, get rid of them." "You want to commit suicide?" Agent Cox spoke again and Keith laughed a bit before looking at Steve. "People with the abilities to be great should not live with people who aren't. Family means nothing. Everyone should have a choice. To choose their own family." Keith continued.
"That's why you murder all these people?! You want everyone to have a choice but not the choice if they want to live or not?!" Steve growled. "This is madness." He said. "This is the future." Keith said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Why do you hate families so much? Bad childhood?" Agent Cox spoke again and Steve looked at him.
"He has a big mouth, huh?" Keith said before picking up his gun and firing a shot into agent Cox's chest. Steve jumped up on his feet but was pressed down in the chair again by six men.
"Calm down, Captain." Keith said tiredly as Cox's corpse fell to the floor. "He's one of those we don't need. Now back to.." He began but was interrupted by something white, red and blue, flying through the room. It hit Keith in the stomach as the force of Steve's shield swung Keith into the wall. Steve glanced a black suit and fiery red hair running through the room. He took the moment as an advance and began fighting the surprised men. Natasha was busy doing the same as a group of four agents came running into the room, helping them fight the  men. Keith was soon on his feet and Natasha  jumped up on his shoulders, taking him down with her thighs. As he was down on the ground again, she grabbed Steve's shield. "Steve!" She shouted before throwing it to him. He caught it and hit down another four men. Natasha shot one man as her feet disappeared from the ground and she laid on the floor. Keith pointed his gun at her and she kicked it away with her feet as he tried to punch her. She blocked it and hit him right on the nose, making it bleed. He screamed which caught Steve's attention. Keith aimed a punch at Natasha again and managed to hit her hard in the stomach, making Natasha loose her breath. Steve ran towards them, dragging Keith of Natasha as a great number of punches landed in Keith's face. Natasha gasped for air and coughed a few times before she was back on her feet, holding her hand over her aching stomach. She looked over at Steve who still hit Keith in the face several times. Keith's face was covered in blood and Steve kept hitting. "Rogers! Enough!" She shouted. He didn't listen but hit him two times more. "Steve!" She shouted and he looked up at her while she shot a man in the arm. Steve breathed heavily before standing up. "Sorry.." He said, starting fighting another man.
Steve and Natasha both breathed heavily as all their enemies laid on the floor, either dead or unconscious. "Message Nick Fury, now." Natasha said to one of the agents who nodded. She then turned to look at Steve who watched some of the agents trying to help Agent Cox. All in vain of course. He had already fallen into deep sleep. "Steve." Natasha said, slightly touching Steve's arm as she approached. "Are you okey?" She asked and he nodded immediately. "Yeah. Let's get out of here." He said as he grabbed his shield. She gave him a nod.
