Chapter 16
Tony had arranged a get to know each other party at the Stark tower. Everyone doubted in the "get to know" part though. It was probably an excuse to Pepper just so Tony could host another party. Still, no one had any problem with it. No one said no to some free alcohol.
Natasha walked into the tower, wearing a tight red dress that ended a bit above the knee and a pair of high heels. Her hair was curled and she let it fell on one side of her head. The room was filed with people. Everyone was either dancing or drinking. She looked around the crowded room for a specific face and it didn't take long until she saw his blond hair and handsome smile. He sat by the bar, discussing something with the bartender with a smile on his lips. She slowly walked towards him and sat down at the chair next to him without looking at him.
Steve didn't even have to turn his face to look at the beautiful lady that sat down beside him. She had walked with such grace that he knew immediately that it was Natasha. "Having a good night?" He asked as he looked at her, sighing at her beauty. She smiled a bit before looking at his blue eyes. "I'm my experience, every good night begins with a party." She said with a smirk. "You look beautiful." Steve said and she stared into his eyes as her smirk grew to a small smile. "Thanks." She said as the bartender gave her a drink.
Natasha took a sip as Steve watched her. They were quiet for a while, not knowing what to say next. They glanced at each other while sipping on their drinks as the music kept beating. "What's a beautiful lady like you, doing on a crappy party like this one?" Clint whispered in Natasha ear and she grinned. "What are you doing here? Leaving your wife at home with your children." Natasha said and Clint smirked. "They're with a babysitter, Laura is here actually." Clint said with a smile, proud to have his wife with him. "Not a word about the wife part though." Clint said and Natasha nodded. "I'll be right back." Natasha said to Steve as she walked away to say hi to Laura.
Steve gazed after her before turning back to his drink. "Captain?"
He looked to his right and realised a beautiful blonde stood beside him. "Sharon, hi." He said with a smile. "May I?" She asked and he nodded. She sat down at the chair next to him.
"How are you?" She asked, smiling.
"I'm good. How are you? I'm sorry for last time, I really had to.." Steve began but she interrupted him.
"Don't worry, I get it. Works comes first. I'm one to know that." She said as she fixed her hair a bit.
"Have you talked to Peggy recently?" Steve asked and she nodded.
"Yeah I was over there the other day." She said and Steve nodded.
"She's alright. She's strong." Sharon said and Steve took a deep breath. "But I don't know how long she have left actually.. I can follow you there if you don't want to go alone." She said and Steve gave her a small smile. "Thanks but I think I need do deal with this on my own." He said and she nodded.
"Tell Lila I said hi." Natasha said to Laura and gave her another hug before she and Clint walked over to another group of people across the room. Natasha turned back to the bar, to Steve, when she realised he wasn't there alone anymore. Sharon sat right beside him, touching his arm. "I get it. I'm sorry." Sharon said as she touched Steve's arm slightly. He nodded with a smile. "It's not your fault you know." He said and she chuckled. "Thanks, I think." She said but let her hand stay on his arm.
Natasha stood still, watching them from a distance. They kept talking and laughing and she felt something uncomfortable bubble around inside her. Her chest became a little heavier and her mind a little darker. She glared at Sharon, jealous of all that she is. She sighed heavily before grabbing another drink and swallowed it all at once. She thought about walking over to them and interrupt their conversation. But for once, she decided to try and do the right thing. To let him go. She gave him a second glance before walking out of the room.
Steve's eyes were drawn to the red headed woman that seemed to be leaving the party.
"Sharon sorry, I have to go." He said confused and hurried out of the room, not thinking of even being polite. Sharon raised her eyebrows and took a sip of her drink as the soldier ran out of the room.
