‘What happened?’ Nandini asked with a worried face.

‘Karan called me. He told me he has found out about who is behind this case.’ I said.

‘Okay who’s it?’ She asked curiously.

‘It’s a company named Supreme Agencies and you’re not gonna believe who’s behind this company.’ I said.

‘Okay…’ she said in a low tone.

She walked towards me and sat across me on a chair. She bent forward and kept her hands on mine which rested on the table.

‘Who is it? Do we know this person?’ She asked.

‘It’s Cabir.’ I said.

‘What? Cabir? As in your brother?’ She asked in disbelief.

‘Yeah.’ I said.

‘What the fuck! Why?’ She asked, still in disbelief.

I explained everything Cabir had said on the phone to her.

‘What the fuck!!’ She said, holding her head in her hands.

My eyes started welling up. For the first time in years I’d had tears in my eyes for someone other than Nandini. Nandini noticed that and walked up to me. She sat on my lap and pulled my head into her chest in embrace. I let my tears flow. I felt betrayed and that too, by my own brother. Nothing hurts more than betrayal. I asked myself what my fault was and why I was being punished for something that wasn’t even my fault.

I gathered myself up. Nandini looked at me with concern in her eyes. We inched closer to each other until our lips met.

‘We’ll deal with this together, okay?’ Nandini reassured, breaking the long kiss.

I nodded in affirmative. She placed her lips on my forehead and kissed it. I felt at peace being in her embrace. My rage had subdued now. She had that effect over me that no one else had. She could keep my emotions in check and calm me down when I needed it. The emotional support she gave me every time was a necessity for me. I was a broken, arrogant and egoistic businessman before but her arrival cane with changes on my life and my attitude in a way that I’d never ever imagined.

I gathered myself up, coming back to the actual matter in our hands. I didn’t want to include Nandini in a matter so personal but then I decided that Nandini was the most important person for me and there’s no way I was gonna keep anything from her. She was as personal to me as it gets.

‘What are you gonna do now?’ She asked me in concern.

‘I’m not gonna take any harsh steps or decisions here. I’ve made them too much for a whole lifetime. I’m gonna play this slow and smart, which isn’t something he’s ever gonna expect because it’s not my style. He tells me he wants revenge for some reason but I’m not gonna go anywhere near to a revenge.’ I said, contemplating the matter in hand.

By the time, I had realised that it wasn’t too much of a big deal. There was nothing at stake here. We had already started working on our new collection and I felt it was better if we moved on along with it rather than getting our hands dirty by digging through old shit.

‘We’re gonna move on with our current collection with utmost security and safety. If Cabir thinks he can destroy Malhotra Enterprise by stealing one summer collection from us, then he is underestimating Malhotra Enterprise and Manik Malhotra.’ I said.

Guess I do still have that ego in me somewhere. Fuck!

Nandini smiled at me proudly. she surely qas taken aback by my quick transition. Being in the intimacy of her had cleared my head to think rationally.

‘He thinks he has already won but the actual results will be known once the collections are released. Let’s see who gets the better hand at it. If he’s gonna go hard on me, Im not softening up either.’ I said, almost to myself.

Too bad that you have decided to turn this brotherhood into a rivalry, Cabir. I will always love you as a brother but as a businessman, you will feel my wrath on you and your fucking company!

Later that evening, before the employees left for their homes, I announced that we were going to move forward with our new concept, leaving behind the old concept once and for all. I had increased our security systems and had the IT team double check our computer systems for any loopholes. I couldn’t risk having any loose ends because I knew Cabir wasn’t going to leave any stone unturned.

I was kind of enjoying this new energy surging through me. It was making me feel excited. I was awaiting the D-Day when the final answer would come as a slap on face for Cabir as to why you shouldn’t mess with Manik Malhotra.

Ughhh! There I go again with my egoistic and cringeworthy thoughts. Guess some things will never change.
