Chapter 30 - New Year's
December 31st 1996, 11:59pm.
Michael and I are standing outside the balcony in a beautiful hotel known as the Pacific Beach Hotel. We're watching over the whole entire state, with a seemingly beautiful view, counting down until 1997.
"Five," says Michael.
"Four," I continue.
"Three..."
"Two..."
"One," we say in unison.
"Happy New Year, Carmelon."
"Happy New Year, Michael."
Michael embraces me in a hug as we watch the beautiful sparkly fireworks shooting everywhere from left to right in the dark sky.
"This is so beautiful," I say.
It's then I consider myself to be lucky. So I might not exactly be where I want to be, home, that is. But I'm here, with Michael. And Michael is one of the most influential people I've ever met, and I've only known him for a few months. Each day is a gift and not a given right, so I'm going to do everything I can to enjoy each day go by while it lasts.
"Michael, I love you so much. And, I'm so happy and fortunate to be here," I say with all my heart.
"I love you more, Carmella. Thank you for sharing this with me, I'm glad I could make you happy, God bless."
I smile. "You prefer being with people you like, that's your way of celebrating, right?" I say, quoting him from his book.
His eyes light up with happiness. "You read that part!"
"Yep, I did."
"That is my way of celebrating, especially with you, Carmella. To be honest, you made this tour ten times more fun. I love having your spirit around, and I mean that."
"Michael I love having you around too, you have no idea how happy you make me."
"You know I use to believe I was one of the loneliest people in the world," he says.
I frown because I also remember reading that in the book. There's at least something I can do about that, I know for sure.
"You have me," I say as I take his hand.
He kisses my cheek. "Hey, can I try something?" he asks.
"Sure."
Without warning, he picks me up by my waist from behind, and I can see so much more. I fling my arms out like a plane and laugh hysterically as I gaze over millions of little lights flashing before my eyes.
