Chapter 26 - Turning Around

November 9th 1996, 1:22pm.

The entire hospital patients, nurses, and parents applaud as Michael sits down in one of the chairs, getting ready to sign autographs and hand out more toys to children. After visiting at least over ten children's hospitals in the time that Michael has been here, it never gets old as I love watching their faces light up, and I'm sure Michael does too.

We're now in Sydney Australia, at another children's hospital, and surprisingly Lola is here as well. I never expected her to come as she doesn't seem like the type to care. But lately I've been noticing a slight change in her demeanour, where she actually wants to tag along to what she thinks – or use to think – is boring, like a children's hospital.

"Hey, can you grab that bag over there please?" Michael asks me, pointing to a bag filled with toys in it.

"Sure." I attempt to pick up the heavy bag, straining my muscles in the process. Good lord, what is in this thing?

"Here, I got it," Lola says and takes the bag from me without struggling. I'm surprised for two reasons. One is that she was actually being nice and helped out for once in her life, and two is because I didn't know she was that strong.

"Thanks, Lola," I say.

"You're welcome."

As the toy bearing and autograph signing is taking place, I begin wondering if Lola's new personality is just a joke, or if she's actually being sincere. She definitely looks different; she's not wearing any makeup and she didn't bother putting on her huge heels today for once. But the main thing is, she's offering to help out which she never does. Maybe she's finally turning around.

As we enter the hotel, I admire the exquisite furniture and as always, I feel like a queen in every single hotel we stay in – for a maximum of a few days.

I then see a newspaper on the counter. I pick it up and it reads: NEWS OF THE WORLD: "I'M HAVING JACKO'S BABY." And it has a picture of Debbie Rowe on the front cover, pregnant. Oh here we go, more tabloids. I try not to show Michael, but his eyes wander around me, and picks the newspaper out of my hand – fail at trying to keep that hidden.

"What's this?" he asks and examines it for a moment. He sighs and takes hold of the telephone and dials a number.

"What are you doing?" I ask. He ignores me as he continues waiting for someone to pick up the phone.

"Hey, come to Australia," Michael says. Lola walks in and gives me with a facial expression that says, what-is-he-talking-about? I just shrug and wait for him to get off the phone.

He laughs a little bit and says, "Okay, I guess I'll see you soon, bye."

"Well?" I say.

"Debbie is coming," he says.

"Oh okay. When will she be here?"

"Tomorrow, we're going to get married in a week or so."

"Really?"

"That's a bit sudden," Lola says.

"Well she's carrying my child, so I guess...."

Lola raises her eyebrows.

"I meant! That I might as well-I don't know."

"Marry because of it?" Lola asks.

Michael stares at her for a second. "Whatever floats your boat sweetheart."
